O'Dowd gets it?

Loved this quote in the Rocky Mountain News this morning:

"This is the kind of deal the Minnesota Twins make," O'Dowd said. "This is the kind of deal the Oakland A's make. This is the kind of deal the Colorado Rockies have to make. It's a three-for-one deal. You fill multiple holes all with players you control at no (excessively large) dollars."

This is the recognition (and the execution) that I have been praying for from Rockies management to follow up on the good job that O'Dowd's people have done putting together the farm system.

Hopefully the Rockies can print out this quote by O'Dowd and plaster it all over Coors' Field so that they don't forget it. :)

I liked that one too

and I think Dealin Dan is getting it. There have been some bad moves on his part, but given his limited budget, some very good ones too. He's built the minor league system first. That has to be number 1. Then as prospects come up, and their replacements come up after them, in this type of system, a team/fans/GM can't get to overly attached to a player that they can't afford.

Now if Monfort's statements from this weekend (raising payroll to around 70 million/yr, They want a winnner, and time for excuses is over) And O'Dowd seems to get it too, I like where the Rockies are going. There is a point where a team has to keep SOME parts, & 50 million a year payroll barely fields a team, 70 Million, an a team can have a few high priced Vets, to go with the young talent
