WBC mention of Manuel Corpas

Sutcliffe and O'brien are doing the commentary for the WBC game between the USA and Mexico.  When discussing international players who are making a big splash at the WBC the first name that came up was Manuel Corpas of Panama, who they said was drawing raves and comparisons to Mariano Rivera.

I guess he isn't going to be an under the radar prospect anymore. ;)

An article that I found in a quick search for info on him from the WBC.

Speaking of the WBC
Was the US so desperate for players that they had to take Al Leiter?  Or Randy Winn?  Or Todd Jones?  Gary Majewski?  Was Bob Wickman not available?

All sarcasm aside, I have enjoyed the Classic, and it looks like several others have to, much to the chagrin of "the Boss."  It just looked like we created this team with the idea that we should keep the games competitive, and not field the best team we could.  I know we've had some defections, but I would believe Jason Jennings would have had to turn this gig down before we call a guy like Leiter.  Did Dan O'Dowd help build this team?  Or better yet, Jim Bowden?  Are we sure that isn't Apodaca and Hurdle deciding the pitching lineup?  My goodness...

Almost got a scare
with Holliday when Adam Stern hit that inside the park homerun.

I was worried myself.
Does Holliday not look a little bigger this year to you?  It looks like he's packed on a little more muscle this year.  That or his jersey is just really baggy (I guess it is regardless).

Nice to see that when we put in REAL pitchers we shut Canada down.  Unfortuneately, because of the pitching limits, Leiter and Majewski will get the chance to further humiliate our country...

I'll give Willis the free pass, I know he's good, he just looked nervous and wasn't hepled by the fielding either.

I know it's just one game
But I can't help but feel cheated watching no trade "throw in" Adam Stern dismantle the US team.  He should have been a Rockie...

too true
Stern would have at the very least been a better backup in center than freeman or Marrero, and could have given Sullivan some competition for the starting job -and Holliday's miscue in the field made Adam look so much better. At least Fuentes looked great in his inning, getting two K's.
