Shealy Trade Watch, Was: [Cubs] Any interest in Shealy now?

I have no idea who the Cubs have on the roster to play first base while D. Lee is injured but if they get desperate to try and save the season I wonder if they would be interested in Shealy.  He is a good defender and he could actually provide some of the offense that the Cubs were counting on from Lee.

Of course it would amount to a rental, as Lee is the long-term answer at 1B for Chicago and Shealy doesn't have another position to play.

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

Mabry
I guess they could use Mabry at first.

Edited the title
Over at minorleagueball.com one of the posters brought up the the A's as a possible destination for the Shealy.

None of those names excite me.
I'm a big Travis Buck fan, I'd try hard to pry him from Oakland.  Buck may not have as high a ceiling as Shealy offensively, and some are concerned he may not develop enough power to start, but he has several playable tools, could try centerfield, and would give Colorado another needed corner outfield product with at least average tools across the board.

It isn't like we're just giving Shealy away.  With Shoppach as the supposed bar, Buck qualifies in that range, plus a pitcher if we're greedy.

Stealin'
10 to 1, Billy Beaner will find a way to steal Shealy from Danny Boy. Since taking over the GM duties, O'Dowd has NOT made one decent trade with the A's that was even close to being a fair deal for both teams.

Today's Denver Post
In the notes section:
A few clubs, including the Cubs, have inquired about trading for Triple-A first baseman Ryan Shealy. But the Rockies are inclined to keep him until the offers improve - teams are offering low-level prospects - and they are certain of Todd Helton's health.

Atkins at first?
If Helton or Shealy are moved I wouldn't worry about 1B depth too much.  I would imagine that Atkins could move back to first if need be (which would also have the benefit of keeping his bat in the line-up when Stewart makes the jump).

He might not have ideal 1B power but if it opens up 3B for a power hitter like Stewart then it would even out pretty well I suppose.
