A Look At The O'Dowd Era

Hey, everybody

Normally, I don't like to pimp my own writing, but I thought my latest project over at Up In the Rockies might be of some interest. I'll be poring over Retrosheet, old media guides, and lengthy Lexis/Nexis searches to construct a full history of Dan O'Dowd's tenure as Rockies GM. I know that O'Dowd is a man that has inspired much debate over his reign at the helm of the Rox, and I wanted to take a look back and see just exactly what he has done to bring the Rox from a franchise going nowhere when he took the job in 1999 to one with a promising present and future in 2006.

I hope you'll join in over at UItR and I hope you enjoy the historical look back. Part One was just posted tonight. Feedback is always appreciated.

Part Three

Oh sure... just brown nose some more in time
for Deadspin's Rockies blogger awards. Yeah, well, I wrote a hit play. I saved Latin. You think a massively intense retrospective on the Dan O'Dowd tenure is going to win you first place again?

I'm just kidding, your muy ambitious project as usual deserves a lot of props. I linked it directly to the diary entry, I hope you don't mind and thanks for the tip to the post.

Dan posted part three
Covering the tumultuous offseason of 1999/2000 including the arrival of Tom Goodwin and the departure of Vinny. Those deals were well intentioned and solid in appearance but wound up being brutal to the team with repercussions lasting several years. Of course the biggest gaffes wouldn't come until the next offseason, but the failures of the pitchers we acquired at this time led directly to that. Of cours, that stuff Dan will probably cover in part four.
