"It was just a flyball...."

A funny quote from Brad Hawpe:

"I think it was a cutter, slider-type pitch on the outer-third, out over the plate," Hawpe said. "It was just a fly ball that got out."

That tells you something about his power right there.  I wasn't aware that flyballs 'just got out' in Washington.

I just found this quote a bit amusing.

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

I saw that,
I think we've got some legit all-star caliber players in the corners right now, with the two on the right batting left and the two on the left batting right, it makes for some interesting symmetry.

I was there.....
Well, I was at the game and it DEFINTELY was "just a fly ball".  When he first hit it, Soriano barely moved and it looked like he might have to only take a few easy steps to grab it....

However the ball carried....and carried....and carried.  Hearly the highlights of the radio broadcast on teh way home from the game, the radio guys thought the exact same thing.

The left foul pole to the left-edge of left-center power alley is the only place at RFK where balls seem to carry.  There are the large fans on the wall over there, and it may have something to do with that.  (this is also the same area where Carroll hit his home run)

Atkin's shot on Wednesday looked like a Rocket and a legit home run......to be honest, Hawpe's ball looked like a fly ball that just drifted and drifted over the fence (which it didn't clear by very much)

You're right.
I just looked it up on Hit Tracker and learned that the ball Hawpe hit was aided 41 feet by wind and temperature and would have normally travelled only 350 feet from home plate.

Hit Tracker
Oh my.. there's a web site for everything!

Thats crazy.. and awesome.  Thanks for the link.

Atkin's shot
I would have sworn that Atkin's shot (the one that Soriano jumped for at the track, right?) would have been an easy home run.

How does a line drive die like that?  Holy crap.

I don't remember Soriano jumping.....
Soriano jumped for Hawpe shot.....but on Atkins' home run, Soriano took one step, turned and just watched it.  It hit about halfway up the wall near a poster.  There was no doubt it was a home run the entire time.

oops
Oops, I was talking about the one that did NOT get out.  The one the other night that Atkins hammered that Soriana came down with on the warning track.  You were talking about the blast that did go out.

Never mind, I misunderstood.

For some reason
I just got this mental picture that there were large "fans," people in left field that are so big, their gravitational pull attracted the ball and carried it over the wall...

It just made me do a double take, and if there really are large people with their own orbits at RFK, I will be certain to make the trip to Washington to witness that...
