Here Comes Iannetta

Rotoworld reporting that the Rox have purchased the contract of Chris Iannetta. The official web site has it too. Danny Ardoin was DFAed.

Sometimes, dreams do come true. I can't wait to see how the kid does.

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

The main site is now reporting it
as well.

With September 1st a week away, this move is rather odd for the feet dragging front office.  Obviously, he's up to do more than sit, or else they wouldn't waive a Hurdle pet.  With Ardoin completely out of the picture, we could see an every-other-day job share now at catcher, which is an ideal situation for the Rockies.

I can't help but think that if the Rockies started making these moves two weeks ago, we might not be so far removed from the playoff picture.  Still Matsui might not be an improvement, and Iannetta as a rookie might only be marginally better than Torrealba this season, but if you add Wilson to the moves, and let him play at short frequently, things might have turned out a bit different.

But hey, hindsight is always 20/20, right?

It comes down to
what Rox Girl noted days ago: the FO is afraid to take risks.

There isn't much risk in doing this right now. It's not like a PB by Iannetta will cause the Rockies to miss the playoffs.

Nice
Good to see the Rockies moving for the future... of course, I don't see how Iannetta could be worse than Ardoin/Torrealba.

Looking at his Minor League splits
on the BRew Crew Ball website, it's safe to assume the median stat-line will be close to .260/.340/.410, or within that range.

However, for a player that has hit well over .300 at two levels stands a good chance to keep those gains in the pros, and with his discipline, he shouldn't drop off too far.

More importantly, with a month' worth of action, we can start looking for numbers closer to .290/.370/.450 next season.  He's fully capable of being our version of Russ Martin.

He'll be better than that
I've said it before, but Chris Iannetta will only hit lower than .300 in slump years. His contact rates and plate discipline will pretty much insure he continues to be over that line, and he'll finally give the Rockies a legitimate threat at the bottom of the lineup.

I have a feeling you're right
I'm just playing on the stat-analysis side, which tempers the projections.  The skill set is there for him to be a constant .310 hitter throughout his prime.
