Andruw Jones

Andruw Jones was placed on waivers by the Braves for some reason, and has been picked up by an unknown team.

Star-divide

Could this team possibly be the Rockies? It makes a lot of sense that the Rockies would try to pick him up. Whatever team has picked him up has just gained alot of talent. keep your fingers crossed

I think it was indeed the Rockies
But it doesn't work out that way. The Braves placed him on waivers because this is the last week they can trade him without his consent (he gains 10/5 veto possibilities next week) and they can pull him off waivers anytime, without the claiming team getting the right to complain. However, they have a 47-hour negociation span with the claiming team (actually, several teams claimed him, but MLB awarded the claim to the team with the worst WIN PCTG of the bunch); even so, if the Braves feel the negociations are going nowhere, they can pull him off waivers but that means he can't be put again there until 2007.
I love Garrett Atkins. Seriously. Man-crush. I traded Morgan Ensberg to get him in my fantasy league.

Most every player
is placed on waivers after the July 31st deadline, so possible trades like this could happen.

The team that claimed him has until Saturday night to work a deal out with the Braves to get him.

Jones becomes a 10-and-5 guy on the 15th I believe.

Yup
Manny Ramirez gets placed on waivers every year and they never get the chance to work out a deal with the claiming team because of the monster contract he has. Rumor says that the Angels always claim him.

Anyway, what would you offer for Jones?

Hard to say
Over at the Rockies scout.com MB, a poster mentions the Braves don't want to take on any big-dollar contracts, so that pretty much means it'd be a prospects deal.

If the Braves asked for Jimenez and Morillo to be involved in any deal, they are already on the 40-Man roster so they would need to pass through waivers.

Does anyone see them going through waivers unclaimed?

And a funny post-July 31st deadline story. The Yankees put in a claim on Jose Canseco in 2000, I believe, in order to stop another team from getting him. He got a ring and did practically nothing.

Well...
at first I thought that would the Rockies finally get rid of Helton? It would work move Hawpe back to first for now and have Sullivan and Choo work RF. But I believe Jones is in his final year of his contract so if the Rockies did do that then Jones could leave so we gave up Helton for nothing. But I doubt they will do that I guess that Baker would be involved along with some other Rockies prospects that are expendable maybe Ray King gets thrown in there.

Jones
Jones is signed for a cheap 13.5M through 2007, and he would net a juicy pair of first round picks in 2008 if he's offered arbitration.

Anyway, I think the first player the Braves would target is mr Hawpe himself, but I doubt he would claim waivers either. This would be a complicated deal.

forget 40 man roster players
The only players on our roster likely to get through waivers are Todd Helton and Ray King......everyone else.....forget about it.

The deal would involve guys like Ian Stewart or others like Joe Koshansky.....prospects not on the 40 man roster.

I don't see a fit, unless the Braves are really looking to dump salary.
