Ifs and buts and wishes and.....

Curious, these days off after such an intense period of play. So much to anticipate, so much to remember. As I was eating lunch at my desk today, checking in on the Row and other sites, I remembered what I was thinking just a scant week ago. "If we had only swept the Pirates, we wouldn't have to be working so hard for that Wild Card spot". "What if we hadn't had that awful 1-9 road trip?" And then I understood.

Those losses, that road trip are why our Rox are the Rox we'll be screaming for tomorrow night. They are who and what they are because of these things. It does, in fact, seem like those rough times were placed before the guys as a test. Before they could find out exactly who they were, and what they could become, they had to first "walk the long walk".

I know it all sounds a tad too touchy-feely, spiritual, whatever icky label people attach to such statements. But I believe it's true.

So now I don't need to fret about the "ifs and buts and wishes." The Rox made it. They're in the NLCS for heaven's sake.

There may be some "if only"s and "why didn't they"s along the rest of this ride. I won't give them a moment's thought. Our Rox are all grown up now. I'll miss the kids a little bit, but it's time for them to fly.
