Around SBN: Dana White Announces Koscheck vs. Hendricks for UFC on FOX

Worst Post-season EVER

If TBS doesn't run out a better broadcast crew.

The guys tonight seriously made me long for a Joe Morgan/Jeff Huson tandem.

Heard a lot of homers call games and a lot of idiots call games as well but this is the first time that no one knew anything about either team (or virtually any of the players on either team).

Padres fans had to be cringing just as badly as Rockies fans (or close to it).

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

The TBS announcers
were all but openly rooting for the Padres, it was making me sick, and ESPN playing up the controversial angle on the call and not even congratulating us for one of the most surreal runs in history made me sicker.

The game should have been over in regulation. Atkins' "double" was a homer. Corpas blew through the Pads 1-2-3.

It's karmic justice, and now we go to the NLDS while the Pads go home.

Get Demented. Standing by my guys forever.

The crew
I actually think Don Orsillo's a better-than-average play-by-play guy... but Joe Simpson needs to be taught the difference between a fastball and a slider, because there were multiple occasions tonight in which he referred to pitches that were clearly fastballs as 'sliders' or 'breaking balls'.

I agree about how ESPN and TBS played up the final play at the plate... Holliday thinks he got it, so does Buddy Black... oh, wait, Tim McClellan thinks so too and his is the only opinion that counts.

Apparently,
Barrett didn't even have the ball. If McClellan hadn't have called him safe, Matt would have been able to touch in time anyway.

The play at the plate
It was close.  If I'm remembering this correctly, Holliday slid into home, Barrett's foot was blocking the plate (without that, Holliday would have gotten the plate), Barrett drops the ball.  I'm guessing that McClellan couldn't see Holliday's hand because Barrett was in the way.

ESPN and a lot of the sportswriters don't like it because they can't cook up their bullshit that it's impossible to win in Colorado any more.  Oh, and I'm also sure that now that the Rockies are in the playoffs, all the complaints about the humidor are going to start up again.  (Colorado can't have a 90-win team or a starting pitcher with a 4.22 ERA, can they?)

The Coors Effect... thinking about changing the name to The Humidor Effect.

National Media (ESPN)
I think it's even more basic then that....um Colorado Rockies? is that a soccer team?  Baseball! Really?..they play baseball west of New York? Really?......How does this effect the Red Sox or Yankees?

Todd Helton, Matt Holliday, Toby Tulywiski?, "JIMMY" Carroll (seriously they actually called him that this moring)....never heard of em...they must suck cause they don't play for the a New York or Boston team.

Resign Kazuo Matsui! Hurdle is still an idiot!

Speaking of ESPN
I love how Steve Phillips of all people picked us to win the Wild Card, and then is turning around and picking us over the Phillies (as opposed to all the other guys, who picked against us). Who would have thought Steve Phillips would be our one believer in the media? No wonder people don't take us seriously.

Also, everyone over there picked it to go 5 games.

For the record, predictions mostly just amuse me because people seem to feel the need to know what's going to happen before it does. It's like knowing a big secret. "Teehee I know Philly is winning in 5 games teehee". It's all so ridiculous. What the hell do any of these people know about the Rockies? They've been paying attention for maybe 10 days. We just sat through an epic game #163. Because it HAPPENED to be televised nationally (is that our first game the entire country could watch?), everyone suddenly thinks they know a thing or two about us. They're all more than welcome to shut the hell up and watch the fireworks display in Philadelphia where another media darling lead by 3 MVP candidates who are GREATLY aided by their extreme hitters park (oh yeah, I went there) gets to match their thunder with ours.

Lastly, I'd like to apologize to the Padres fans over at Gaslamp Ball. I can't imagine what it must be like to watch your season end in such an excruciating fashion. I'm sure it would have been much less painful had they gotten the Atkins HR call correct and you wouldn't have to think you got royally screwed for the rest of your lives.

So the day after I've been a little bit angry about a few things. I feel better. Thanks for the platform.
