AA Tulsa Roster

So there's an article over at tulsadrillers.com that outlines the expected roster for the Rox AA affiliate. http://tulsadrillers.com/news/drillers/?id=4534

Among other things we learn:
-Rotation will be Morales, Reynolds, Lo, Mattheus, Asahina
-Register moves to bullpen, will close
-Rifkin jumps from short season to AA, will start at first
-Gaetti, Miller, Czarniecki slated to start in OF

The team's roster page has 21 players listed of a possible 24. Since only nine are pitchers, I'd figure the last three guys are probably hurlers, and since Darren Clarke, Adam Bright, Judd Songster, and Jentry Beckstead are as yet unaccounted for, it's probably three of those four.

Still haven't heard anything about Matt Macri, Corey Wimberly, Doug Bernier, Samuel Deduno, Justin Nelson, and Jud Thigpen. I'd have figured on Wimberly, Macri, and Deduno being at AA for sure, especially since they're not on the Modesto roster that was posted here earlier.

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

Macri and Wimberly
are starting the year hurt with sore hamstrings. Clarke is also hurt with groin injury. Deduno is starting the year in extended spring to build up arm strength cause he arrived in camp late.  All of that from the first pebble report of the year about 12 posts down on the 29th.

That'll teach me
To not get fully caught up on the Row when I leave for a vacation.

Seriously, though, thanks for the heads up.

Morillo to start season in Tulsa
According to the Tulsa Drillers website (tulsadrillers.com - sorry don't know how to do a hyperlink on here), Juan Morillo will begin the season in AA. It doesn't mention if he is starting or relieving though and if you remember in spring training, management had talked about him projecting more as a reliever than a starter in spring training so I guess we'll see.

Here's the roster:

PITCHERS (12):
Jon Asahina
Jentry Beckstead
Adam Bright
Matt Daley
Jarrett Grube
Ching-Lung Lo
Ryan Mattheus
Franklin Morales
Juan Morillo
Zach Parker
Steven Register
Greg Reynolds

CATCHERS (2):
Tommy Duenas
Rick Guarno

INFIELDERS (6):
Christian Colonel
Jeff Dragicevich
Jonathan Herrera
Tim Olson
Aaron Rifkin
Duke Sardinha

OUTFIELDERS (4):
Jordan Czarniecki
Chris Frey
Joe Gaetti
Matt Miller

Morillo back to Tulsa
That's surprising.  I too wonder if he'll work in relief or as a starter.

No Judd Songster is surprising too. I'm guessing that he was released.  That's too bad, I thought Songster was an intriguing relief prospect.

yeah I was surprised
when I saw that on their website too. I'm sure he'll be in AAA by the all-star break at the latest. He may even move up when the Rockies call up Jimenez by May (here's to hoping!)

TheTulsa World article today
made inference to Songster eventually joining the Drillers so we'll see.  Also from that article, they assumed that Asahina would fill in for Deduno while he pitched in extended, but also mentioned (I believe, I should just go get the paper...) that Morillo would fill in for Clarke.  I'm guessing they keep him in relief.

Notes from the latest Tulsa World article....
-Jonathan Herrera will try to run more this season and wants to steal 40+ bases.
-Greg Reynolds will be the Drillers' opening-night starting pitcher on Thursday.
-Judd Songster and Tino Sanchez are still in the organization and were placed on the DL.

All of the minor league rosters have been released (except Asheville's).
