Damn
The Rockies play in the afternoon, not at night...I wonder if they'll be a game on around 8 my time...doesn't look like it.

The Rockies have been keeping me sane these past weeks...musical practice has gone off the wall, seeing as we open this week and nobody thinks we're prepared and are resorted to EXTENSIVE practices on...well, the weekends. Last night I came home and immediately turned on the ballgame, lay down on the couch, and let the Rockies renew my mental state.

Wait, they didn't win? Well, I'm not crazy anymore, at least.

I guess that's why I love baseball, huh.

I need a Holliday. Coincidentally, I also need a holiday.

Jackie Robinson
IMO, Jackie Robinson is similar to MLK in that he actually transcended the civil rights movement.

Rather than just being great civil rights icons and heroes they were great Americans and great human beings whose character and whose class would have made them prominent and inspirational men in any era or any circumstances.

With both men there is so much to admire about them that is only marginally related to race or politics or sports.  The ability to perservere in the face of such hatred and racism would have made both men heroes by itself but the ability to do so with such class and dignity really sets them apart and is what makes them so special, IMO.

Just as a side note, I heard a rumor that Jackie could play a bit of baseball as well. ;)

Last year
I got to visit the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City.  It was Buck O'Neill's baby.  It was a great experience.  Amazing to see how many great baseball players, and men were seprated based on the color of their skin, and to think of what we lost because of it.

It put Jackie Robinson's accomplishments that much in prespective, and how momentous it was, not just for baseball, but for America.

Now all these years later, we've come a long way..but we still have a long way to go, when we have old white radio guys calling people, "nappy headed ho's". It means we need Jackie Robinson in today's age as much as we needed him then.  I'm glad baseball is honoring him.

Now for Roberto Clemente day
