Game #22: Fogg vs. Pelfrey

With Josh Fogg on the hill I'm not too optimistic about our chances, but the offense has to break out some time.  Why not today?   Mike Pelfrey certainly isn't a world beater by any means.  Hopefully the Rockies can take advantage of his two-pitch nature and relative inexperience.

Avoid the sweep and leave New York with a modicum of dignity remaining.  Just do it, it's as simple as that.

Tulo and now Chris with a solid hit
Having those two break out would be a tremendous boost. Now if we can somehow get Iannetta home.

Clint(s)
I have heard that one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result....Clint Hurdle is insane for playing Barmes this much.

by DenverBears on Apr 25, 2007 11:51 AM MDT reply actions

Its because
of the man love that Hurdle has for Barmes. I swear they blow each other in between innings.

Whoo HOO...I smell a no hitter!

your supposed to count the outs lol fogg with 9 up 9 down.

by jaxROXdisciple on Apr 25, 2007 11:58 AM MDT up reply actions

Barmes is ok as back up go
And he's the only other middle infielder right now.  Our other option would be Omar Quintanella.  Who also is a nice fielder that can't hit.

by Redhawk on Apr 25, 2007 11:55 AM MDT reply actions

Jayson Nix is hitting well down in the Springs too
He's another option, although not a very good one.
Free Ryan Spilborghs!

by malakian on Apr 25, 2007 11:56 AM MDT up reply actions

I'm keeping an eye on Jonathan Herrera
Who might be a slightly better option than Q, and believe it or not, Jayson Nix hasn't been bad at the plate this season for Colorado Springs. He's got a 7/7 BB/K rate and twelve hits, he could be a better option than Barmes at this point.

by Rox Girl on Apr 25, 2007 11:59 AM MDT up reply actions

keep it up Foggie
If he can keep this lineup down, (knocks on wood crosses fingers rubs rabbit foot) we may have a shot.  Unfortunately us beating up on a bad pitcher only makes me think that we are an awesome AAAA type team. We can destroy bad pitchers but can't do didly squat against anyone else.

Please, no...
Please don't remind me of the Yankees victory call.  Whenever the announcer says that, he (in the words of Rick Reilly) sounds like a goat stuck on an electric fence.  Yet another reason to hate the Yankees...

meh
i dont particularly care for the yankees, but thats such an awesome/obnoxious call that i cant help but steal it.  my thinking is its so universally known, its a fantasy of mine that one day every baseball fan in the country knows what the rockies' announcers say after every win.  but until then im just gonna quote that yankees guy.

This is big
Like I said earlier... a game like this - a comfortable win where everybody contributes (well, except Barmes) - is the kind of game that can give you a little bit of momentum. We've got Francis and Hirsh going in the first two games against the Braves so if we continue to get good pitching and the bats can build on this... we can still be in pretty good shape.

I feel like the Rox took a pretty good step in the 'not terrible' direction today.

I'm so happy.... except for all the other crap of
the young season

Haha
I love your sig line :)

Great solid win for the Rockies today, now if we can only demote Barmes.

Thanks, it just came to me
after I relived that experience for the 17th time.

Here is the stat of the day
In case you weren't already in a good mood:

The Rockies have more wins right now than the Yankees.

Tell me you aren't smiling inside when you read that.

Just got home
Great to see that we won today rather easily, although winning 1 outta 3 in every series isn't going to cut it. Wouldn't it be nice if we could sweep the Braves? I know that's asking a lot but it would sure help this team out a lot.

as great as the game was....
the Rockies had 20 hits, but 16 of them were singles.  The Mets actually had more extra base hits than the Rockies.  I'm still worried about the lack of power.

For those of us
unable to watch the game today, FSN is replaying it tonight at 7.
