Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

Monday Pebble Report

Colorado Springs: Once again, the game was postponed due to snow.

Tulsa, W 8-5: Ching-Lung Lo had a rough first inning in his first AA start but pitched effectively for the next five to pick up the win. He walked two and struck out two. Steven Register recorded his first save of the season and struck out one batter in the process. Jonathan Herrera collected two hits and one stolen base, while Joe Gaetti had three hits, including a double. Rick Guarno had one hit in one AB, a double, but drove in his other run with a sac fly.

Modesto, W 3-2: Randy Johnson didn't faze the Nuts all that much yesterday afternoon as the Nuts were able to get two runs off him before he left after the sixth. Chris Nelson scored one of the runs against Johnson and eventually crossed home plate in the 9th to give the Nuts the victory. Jeff Kindel and Phil Cuadrado both hit doubles. Brandon Hynick started the game, went six strong innings, allowed no earned runs on five hits and struck out six. Pedro Strop struck out two in two innings.

Asheville, L 1-5: Things could have gone better for Aneury Rodriguez in his full-season debut. In 4 2/3 IP, he allowed four runs on nine hits. But on a better note he allowed only one walk and struck out four. Daniel Mayora and Michael Paulk collected three hits but only one RBI among the two (Paulk).

Chris Kline
responded to my question and by "johnson" he meant "arm." It's a catch-all term in baseball, but that's the first I've heard it used by anyone in the MSM.

Fantastic game by the Nuts!
Carte, EY Jr, Nelson and Cuadrado all deserve much kudos for showing the D-backs that RJ's only at a high-A level right now. That Hynick outpitched him pleases me immensely.

Simon Ferrer
will start tonight for Asheville.

Has anyone gotten clarification
over the 40 man "debacle" with Ferrer?

Asahina and class will keep me away from Driller Stadium, but I'm looking forward to Reynolds "debute" in the nooner tomorrow.

No info on that yet
but my guess? Maybe the FO thinks they'll get two players in return if they ever find a taker for Kim. Seems stupid now since they are willing to release Kim.

That was my assumption
that they had  trade talks serious enough to make room for a new player on the 40 man.  It's also a bit surprising that a team like Washington, with all their pitching woes, didn't put a claim in on Ferrer, a young knuckleballer that could be an asset to a weak staff down the road.

Not a good night for pitchers.
U-ball is getting pounded.  9 ER, 8 hits and 5 walks in 2 2/3 IP.  Must be partially due to the long layoff.

Ferrer's knuckleball wasn't working too well tonight either.  5 ER over 4 innings.

Xavier Cedeno is pitching later this evening for Modesto.

Free Ryan Spilborghs!

Sixteen K's for Charleston pitchers
so strikeouts have been an organizational dilemma to start the year.

At least the minor league vets buoyed Tulsa to another win.

FERRER ENDED PROFESSIONAL STREAK OF
28 1/3 Innings without an earned run given up when he was knocked around in his 1st start.  4 IP 5R 8H 3BB and 3Ks.
