Game #34: Hirsh vs Wainwright
OPS+ of our catchers this season:
Yorvit Torrealba 34
Chris Iannetta 85
Which is saying that Yorvit's been worth one third of a league average batter, while Iannetta's been worth about 85 % of one. Neither is what we'd want, but Chris is a whole lot closer so far. Today he gets what's become a fairly rare opportunity to start again. Jeff Baker is also in the lineup, as is Omar Quintanilla again. Seeing a strong game from these three will give Clint Hurdle a lot more confidence in the state of the team than he currently possesses. Me too, let's hope they step up today.

The dilemma, the dilemma...
Man. Why did it have to be Wainwright? Couldn't it have been Randy Keisler or something?

Hirsh works out of the jam
looks like
horrible break
Great play by Baker

Yeah
As for it being a beautiful day at Busch Stadium -- well, it's 89 degrees and terribly humid here, and St. Louis is probably little different. Maybe slightly cooler, but it's probably about the same thing.

Ah, okay
Hirsh
Uh.... what?
Pardon?
this is dumb in my opinion
Jeez....
I don't get it.
And now he walks Wainwright.
Hirsh is at 86 pitches through 2.2. Good thing we let our bullpen have the night off yesterday...
Oh, wait.
Grr.
heres the st. louis scount report on hirsh
dont swing until you have a strike.
when you have 2 strikes, just start fouling everything off, eventually he will walk you.
Hirsh is really laboring
im usually the optimist
so watching game day
We've already one a game this series
Whooo Single

Mr. Ditto.
Prediction:
It won't matter that much because I think
We have two outs.
In all seriousness, though, why couldn't you do this before you had 100 pitches, Jason?
Wow
Honestly I thought ourship was about to sink.
I shall take a two-base error.
Brandon!! Woohoo! tied game
We lost the lead runner
Makes too much sense

And Hirsh walks yet another.
Aside from the Giants game's stats
infield fly vs. intentional drop
Intentional drop:
Runner at first, less than two out.
Can be a line drive or a fly.
Batter is out when ball is intentionally dropped.
Ball is dead, runners return to their original bases.
Infield fly:
Runners at first AND SECOND, less than two out.
Must be a fly, not a line drive.
Batter is out when ump determines ball can be caught by an infielder with ordinary effort.
Ball is alive, runners can advance at own risk.
Troy Renck told me he knew the difference, that the Post editors had added "infield fly" but that he didn't write it, and that he was pissed about it.
Affeldt...
Mabry and Finley back to back
any body know
It is a question
Cards fans were salivating to get to the pen
Hurdle ought to conceed
Otherwise, we may be compounding our problems by taking a tired pen into the San Francisco series.
We sure play the Giants
Well, um
I would be an awful lot happier about that if we had just won yesterday.
<sigh>
The Bright Side:
I think Hurdle just took the advice
Well folks, I am out. Going to Yankee Stadium to watch Yanks/Rangers, and by the looks of things, I'm not missing much from this game. Not a Yanks fan at all, but I am looking forward to seeing the stadium and enjoying a ballgame. I'll even be wearing my autographed Rockies hat.
Whoa, you are going to Yankee Stadium?
The cards pitching hasn't issued a walk today
What a nail biter
Carrol in center?
That's uninspiring
Never mind
Hum...can we get a new bullpen please?
Damn
