2007 4th Round Pick Isaiah Froneberger

Isaiah Froneberger

LHP, Forest Park HS, Ga.

HT: 5'8"? 5'10"? WT: 200 lbs.

Bio: Froneberger has a commitment to the University of Georgia to play baseball. He is, however, signable and should head to Caper to pitch out of the bullpen. A lefty with a 90 MPH fastball, he also has a good curveball.

Commentary: Seems like a stretch. Take a look at his scouting video. At best, he's a lefty specialist out of the bullpen.

I'm going to go out on a limb
and say this is the first pick that officially sucks.  The only projectability here is hoping this guy grows four inches.  The slider looks nice, but he does look reliever all the way.

I'd love it if he proved me wrong, and he seems to have the makeup you'd like and is an underdog you can root for, but 5'8 guys don't make the pros, especially ones with sketchy fastballs.

hmm...
sounds like a good 10th round pick.

MLB Draft Comments
Any one of the three college pitchers that were profiled right after this kid was taken sound like they have better potential.

Let's go Fronenberger.
I gotta root for a guy my size (okay, if you added 25 pounds...) making the majors.  Still, the pick does seem like a bit of a stretch, but maybe the Rockies know something we don't?
The Coors Effect... thinking about changing the name to The Humidor Effect.

Fronenberger
Whenever (and it's very rare) I see a 5'8" lefty, I think of Fred Norman, a pretty good pitcher on some of those great Big Red Machine teams in the 70s.

Perry,
hopefully there will more simirities between this guy and Norman than there are between me 6'1" and Rodrigo Lopez also 6'1"

If Froneberger becomes that,
Then we will definitely all owe Bill Schmidt a permanent shrine or something. Maybe a statue.
