Brad Penny makes this start on three days rest and Jeff Francis looks to rebound from his horrible Tuesday start. Advantage: Rockies?

I'd enjoy this game more
I'm still tired from
'course I'm not in the same shape as a professional afweet
Major league roster
I can't quite figure out why Hurdle likes to throw out a bunch of subs when the rookies are on the mound.
That game that U-ball had against the Cubs made me sick (I was there and when I saw the starting line-up I about choked).
Hah, Russell Martin sounds like Tulo
Penny
Why is Sully starting?
And Sullivan
And why are we not playing Stewart?
I honestly
Todd, I'm disappointed in you
Oh jeez
Well
I'd rather have runs, they are useful when it comes to winning games
Please Jeff

Well, a 1-2-3-4 inning
No 17-pitch AB there, Sully?
A 1-2-3 inning?

Only righties left
Spilly just pinch hit and done then?
maybe...
Not that I agree with taking the starter out after 85 pitches when the entire bullpen was used the night before.
or...
Now it really doesn't make sense.
What did Spilly do to Hurdle? He was pretty much starting nearly every day for a while and now, out of nowhere, Hurdle thinks he needs to get Sullivan more ABs or something.
Sully is Hurdle's pet

3rd
Only took 3/4 of the season.
julio has abandoned the slider
I know Julio is usually decent
if he walks him
Ugh
Only two outs
It's bad
Good Affeldt
Yeah
Sully
If he didn't get that close and trap it then Ethier scores (or atleast goes to third and scores on pretty much anything).
I don't have much more confidence in

Affeldt's SD fiasco
Make it go away.
Kent.
This won't hurt at all.
DP FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
3-1 is gonna get crushed.
Or not.
Bloody hell

You can't always pitch behind in the count...
Loaded with one out
I hate Affeldt and Julio right now. Lest you say this is irrational, I assure you it is not. I am not okay at the moment for a number of reasons.
Affeldt is going to walk in the tying run
Or not
I hate our bullpen.
A lot.
Unbelievable
Well, that's just great...
Memo to O'Dowd
Keep Corpas, keep Buchholz, but ship the rest out!
Excuse the language...
Ramon Martinez
Affeldt isn't worth a bag of balls any more.
it seems like the DP's we do get
As I said
OK, so we've been bad against Saito
Hawpe, Tulo, Torrealba in the 9th.
Another fine managing job by Clint Hurdle
I'm tired of this horseshit
And I don't know what the hell's gotten into Affeldt, but he's trying to sink our season by himself on this road trip.
Affeldt is doing a Fuentes homage.
Affeldt is going through
And we can't even get a DP
I am pretty much beyond words at this point.
Yet another..

Like last night, you mean?
You seem to enjoy it
Long ball
One lucky swing can tie it up.
If we called up Weathers from Low A
Also, why not Morillo? If we can justify Julio as an eighth inning guy, how can we deny Morillo a chance? He may not be special but he's a cheaper version that can walk and K batters like the rest of 'em.
You HAVE to win this exact type of game
My prediction

Wouldn't be stunned if Affeldt was DFA
His tightrope walking
We already do
Affeldt
If I'm Saito
No chance
We'll be looking back at this trip as a missed opportunity... but with a favorable homestand coming up, I'm not pouring sand on the grave just yet.
not that i'm complaining
And there it goes.
devastating
i don't like our chances
ARGH
We better absolutely destroy the freaking dregs of this league this go around.
Same tune different day
by PinchHitLancePainter on Aug 19, 2007 5:15 PM MDT reply actions
So why exactly
Thanks to Hurdle, Affeldt and Julio
Seven games against
7 games against bad teams
At the end of the day
That said, the bullpen does need a reshuffling, and more chances need to be taken. I'd consider moving Buchholz to 7th-8th inning duty and dropping Affeldt to long man/LOOGY duties. The use of Fuentes late is fine, but again he's not the same pitcher we remember, and should only pitch in lefty heavy spots. Not strictly a lefty specialist, but in an Okajima lefty-heavy type role. I'd like to see what Morillo can do after a solid AA season, but it looks like we'll have to wait for September to see if he can be a fixture in the bullpen.
Corpas didn't pitch Thursday or Friday...

The multiple inning save
On a slightly related note, does anyone else find it funny that "Baseball for Dummies" was written by Joe Morgan?
He has the best credentials to write a book like
I don't know if the proper term
Yet again
We're at home against the Pirates and Nats. It's now or never time.
I agree 100% re: bullpen...
I'm not overlooking them
Very true

D-Backs win we win
WTF?!?!?!
by rockiesfan4ever on Aug 19, 2007 5:38 PM MDT reply actions
Make Affeldt the long man
Next week?
We just can't seem to win games against good teams, especially on the road. Too many, woulda, coulda, shoulda's that end up just be not enough. We are a good young team. Just not better then say...the Padres or the Dodgers, or the Braves. To think we can some how back into the playoff race by beating up on the Pirates, or the Nationals (who have a very good record in the last month by the way) when we couldn't beat the teams that actually mattered just seems like purple colored wishful thinking.
Our Bullpen has imploded, we don't have a lefty specialist as our 2 lefties, can't get out lefties any more, and our rotation has lost 3 starters in 3 weeks, and the bad part one of them wasn't named Fogg. (who for the record I hope is back next year as a long man/6th starter out of the pen)
I'm afraid, reality is sinking in for me. We are going to be close...but just not close enough. The rising tide, that is the end of the season will wash us away with the other pretenders.
Speaking of
As for starters, I like Cook, Francis, Jimenez, Morales, and guys like Hirsh, Fogg and Lopez for the final spot. I think we may have a very strong staff in '08. I for one am looking forward to next year, and I think it should be the year to go for it.
i like both lopez and hirsh a lot
08 Pitching
I'd like to see Fuentes stay if he can regain some control and get out lefties. If not, then he may have value on the trade market. If he goes we need a LOGGY bad, as I don't want to see Affeldt back at all. The rest is a scrum between veterans signed to minor league opt-out deals, and true minor leaguers like Ramirez that might step up.
Rotation: Lopez is a FA, and I'm not sure we need him. Fogg we have an option on (I think) If he would be a long man/6th starter type I'd love for him to be back. With a rotation of Francis, Cook, Hirsh, Jimenez, and Moralles in 08 with Reynolds and Fogg to step in case of injury, I like that rotation a lot! But with Hurdle I can see him starting Fogg, and sending one of the kids back to AAA for "seasoning"
The rotation could change if the Twins would take Stewart or Atkins and Hirsh for Santana prior to his walk year. Then Santana falls is love with Denver, and the Humidor, and signs a very long and cheap extension.
Next year
won't be any different than this year unless they Hurdle proof the bullpen with automatic, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th inning guys.
