Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

Game #111: Fogg vs Vargas

The Brewers come into town desperate to hold onto their torrid start and keep the National League Central division from the upstart Cubs. The Cubs come into town next. Both squads will be looking for the Rockies to do them the favor of winning against their opposition but laying up against themselves. I think the Rockies should play no favorites and win indiscriminately every day this week.

Go Rockies!

How's the weather look in Denver?
Are they going to be able to get the game in?

Pumping Braun
Braun is having an oustanding offensive season.  But, why does the Denver media continue to think he's a good fielder?  They once again said he was a good fielder on the pre-game tonight.  Have they watched him play, or looked at his stats.  His fielding percentage is under .900.

Let us hope dearly
that Good Fogg has arrived to the park tonight, and that the offense gets going quickly.

Nice shot, Brad!
I guess he noticed Atkins was creeping up on him.

It looks like everyone has put
the Braves' series behind them and have responded appropriately.

by David OhNo on Aug 6, 2007 7:24 PM MDT reply actions

Yeahhh!
Well, Hawpe parked one, of course Holliday needed to reciprocate.

Slow night here, is everyone at the game/otherwise occupied?

Oh jeez
Fogg, I TOLD you that I did not want to see those from the Brewers. Keep them to solo shots, if you have to give them up at all.

Judging on past events
Fogg will give up a homer this inning.

Matt Jr.
Ole Matt Holliday Junior just got on base, eh?

He really needs a hair-cut.

Nice escape artistry, Fogg.
Only 67 pitches? Wow.

Great outing
Great outing for Fogg (assuming that he is done...he might not be).

Tulo's errors...
...I'm not watching, but am I reading that correctly in that he has had errors on back-to-back plays in the top of the ninth?

by rockiesfan06 on Aug 6, 2007 9:24 PM MDT reply actions

Yes, you read that correctly
Fortunately Corpas got a game-ending DP anyway.

Let's never see anything like that again . . .

Oy
The announcers were talking and talking about how Tulo should win the Gold Glove, and then that happens -- they jinxed him something fierce. But oh well, all's well that ends well, we won.

much love
for fogg.  gave up 2 massive bombs and had a handful of other balls hit hard, but he got out of trouble when he needed to and for the most part kept traffic off the basepaths.  just the kind of start he needs to have consistently to give the team a chance at making a run.
rockies in october.

by LarryB303 on Aug 6, 2007 9:36 PM MDT reply actions

Yeah
If we can get that kind of effort from Fogg consistently down the stretch this team will be in great shape. Hats off to him tonight, he pitched a hell of a ballgame.

What are your guys thoughts on Tulo? Do you think he's hit a wall, or just going through a rough stretch right now? I'm not worried about him yet, just wanted to get some of your thoughts.

Two Low Bricks
Troy is more frustrated than anyone with his two errros in the ninth.  He's very focused, and I expect that this game will be the bottom of a bounce for him both offensively and with the glove (not that he needed one with the latter).

by Two low rocks on Aug 6, 2007 11:36 PM MDT up reply actions

To clear something up
I'm not worried about his defense at all, least of my concerns. He has proven he is an incredible defensive shortstop.

by Make It Rain @ Purple Row on Aug 7, 2007 12:35 AM MDT up reply actions

I think he needs a day off soon
He seems to be pressing offensively.  Not as patient as he was a month ago.  Defensively, he seems to have lost a little focus.  Maybe a couple of days off in the next couple of weeks would rejunenate him for the rest of the season.
