Purple Row's 2008 Game of the Year
This award comes down to two games: the 22-inning marathon against the Padres or the Rockies' amazing come-from-behind victory on Indepence Day.
Look at Fangraph's Win Probability Charts for these two games:
The first was a very close game; the second looked like a bottomless pit until the very end.
I didn't stay up for the entirety of the first game, as it ended around 4:30 my time (ET). But I did watch the last inning in the morning.
As for the second game, Silverblood, who attended the game, texted me this shortly after the game's conclusion: "Holy. Hell."

Both?
Can’t I vote for both? This was a really disappointing season, but those were two really great games, and two of my favorite Rockies games ever.

I was actually in Colorado at the time when the Marlins game happened, so I was able to watch that one. I remember some family members who were watching along with me just burst out laughing when Holliday hit the grand slam in the seventh, because everything about the situation and the comeback in general was so ridiculous.
Hell of a game.

I was in the LF bleachers for that whole thing
with my sister. We’d come for the fireworks, and it looked as if that was going to be the only highlight. But in the 7th/8th/9th… well, let’s just say I don’t think I’ve ever screamed that hard at a baseball game before.
Ah. Happy memories.

Blast and botheration.

I have four Rockies games on my iPod.
Three are the playoff clinchers from 2007.
The fourth is the July 4th game.
I watched every inning of that game live. Hell, I was home alone on July 4 – what else was I going to do? Called my parents, who were in Topeka, in the seventh and talked them through the Holliday grand slam. I think that’s one of the great games in franchise history.
The 22-inning game was a bit more of a freak show – a novelty, sure, and a neat linescore to look at, but it got sloppy as the game went on. The July 4 game was like two teams playing Playstation baseball on the lowest difficulty level with pitch speed turned down all the way.
Staying on the sunny side of Blake Street since 1993.

July 4 game takes it
The 22-inning game was memorable for sure, but in my book you’ve really got to go with the July 4 18-17 win over Florida as the game of the year if not one of the Rockies best of all-time. You had a sellout festive holiday crowd, the Rockies greatest comeback in franchise history (9 runs from 13-4 down), and six Colorado homers including the Holliday grand slam.
Speaking of the Holliday Slam, YouTube took my video down from the TV broadcast a few days after (copywrite stuff), but I still have a still frame (a little fuzzy) of the moment that I use as my SB Nation avatar…
I like the Holliday touchdown hop, and the catcher wincing from the blast.
