Rox: Hurdle rids three coaches - The Denver Post

I had really hoped for a new pitching coach next year as well, but clearly Hurdle and Apodaca are somehow conjoined.

he was a great bp coach. our pen was fine this year…. maybe he was to laid back. everybody could see gallego get canned, Quirk is a bit of a surprise, Cockrell is expected. Apodaca and Hurdle are drinking buddies. Apodaca is the only coach that would of deserved to be fired. A good franchise would never of hired him. I hope Hurdle and Apo enjoy there beer while our good young pitching goes to waste, and we have another season below 500

Apodaca

Dac presided over the best pitching staff in franchise history in 2007. Our 2006 staff wasn’t half bad either. I question his role in the regression of the 2008 staff, but I think his previous track record was solid and think he deserves another year. I know I’m in the minority here.

Excellent point

And I’ll concede that maybe 2008 was just “one of those years.” And after all, Ubaldo and De La Rosa did come around later in the season. So we’ll have to wait and see. I was just hoping for a little more “fresh air”. I think this team could use it.

I nominate

VInny Castilla to be the new hitting instructor. That way he’ll be in a good position to assume the role of manager when Hurdle eventually gets fired. Which, pardon the pessimism, could be as early as this time next year.

while I'm at it

how about Walt Weiss as the new bench coach and…I dunno…Larry Walker as the third base coach?

Is Walker ready to be

a full-time coach? I know he’s done some hitting instruction for the Cards during Spring Training, but I believe he wants to spend a few years with his family before getting back into things.

Needed change

I hope that it turns around what needs turning.

Several members of the coaching staff were let go

and yet the 2 at the top of the staff remain?

Someone is pushing blame onto somebody else…

This season has been like a bat to the face.

It was only a matter of time before the Rockies would find someone to blame for this disappointing season. Often times, it is the manager or the general manager who pays the price for a season gone bad. In this case, it fell on the shoulders of it’s coaching staff. It was just another way to pass the blame without really dealing with the problem. This is only the beginning of many changes the Rockies will make in the next few months. It’s going to get bumpy on Blake Street.
