We just can't afford more of the same...
While it’s probably not the worst move they could have made, I would have much rather seen the Rockies bring in someone like Larry Walker or Vinny Castilla – or how about retaining Todd Helton to be a player/hitting coach.
At least Baylor won’t be in the position to make a double switch, just to exercise his power to adjust the lineup.

Don Baylor and Jim Tracey in the dugout?
Whose decision was this? Hurdle’s or O’Dowd’s? I’m not sure I’d like having two former managers in the dugout if I was Clint.

But the FO will
have two possible in-house replacements in 2009 should Hurdle not survive the entire season.

Thats probably
why such an emphasis was put on getting coaches with previous manager experience. With these hiring, its very apparent to me that Hurdle is on the chopping block and Tracy or Baylor will be the manager if the team stumbles out the gate.

Very interesting move....
Compare Rockies managerial WIn/Loss records:
Don Baylor (1993-1997) 363-384 .486
Clint Hurdle (2002-2008) 516-597 .463
Then take a look at Jim Tracy’s career numbers with the Dodgers:
427-383 .527 winning percentage.
Sure looks like the FO has put Mr. Hurdle on notice.
