Rockies fail to pursue Fuentes

According to his agent (Rick Thurman), Brian Fuentes won't return to Colorado.

The article goes on to mention that Manny Corpas is closer by default. I'm looking for a competition to emerge during Spring Training.

They should,

but the deadline for that isn’t for some time.

Corpas?

Did they watch him pitch this year or not?

Geez,

You act like he was worse than Vizcaino or something. Relax. Manny can still get people out, he’s closed before, and I think he was pretty hit unlucky last season though I don’t have the BABIP stats in front of me that would verify that (it sure seemed like he was, anecdotally).

Once he got past whatever was plaguing him in April and May, he was very good until his last four outings – all awful – really threw his season numbers all to hell.

I think we saw some residual fatigue from him in the season’s first two months from the long season previous. He definitely didn’t look like the same guy in April and May, but once he started looking like the same guy… he was the same guy – if that makes any sense. When he’s on, he’s excellent, and just as capable of locking down the 9th inning as anybody the Rockies are realistically going to throw into a theoretical competition.

(b-b-b-but Buchholz!)

Yeah, I like him better in the 8th, actually. Maybe that’s just me.

8th-9th

If Manny is anything like he was in 07 then I like him as the closer.

Taylor is a strong presence in the 8th but would make an ok closer if the Rockies other options all implode on them.
