A Rockies photo made the SI special issue Pictures of the Year: The Best Sports Photos of 2008. It's from the August 27 game in San Francisco, and features Rockies Chris Iannetta and (of all people) Livan Hernandez.

I can't find an actual gallery including this photo on SI.com, so I had to link to the photo on the US Presswire site. Following is the copy that accompanies the photo in the print issue:

In a unanimous decision, Rockies catcher Chris Iannetta (left) and pitcher Livan Hernandez joined umpire Rob Drake in calling the Giants' Dave Roberts out at the plate to end the sixth inning at AT&T Park. Colorado led 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth when San Francisco's Roberts, who had tripled, attempted to score from third on Fred Lewis's fly-out to center. Rockies outfielder Willy Taveras gunned Roberts down with a perfect one-hop throw. A game-save? Nope, the Giants won anyway, 4-1.

Photographer Kyle Terada, US Presswire: "This photo shows the magnitude of the moment: Roberts dejected while the Rockies celebrate with a lot of emotion. Each individual is nicely placed in the frame--and it's fun that it looks like the umpire knocked Roberts out."

Eek

I linked to the wrong photo (I wish I could edit it myself). Here’s the correct one.

Also

for the ladies out there, I have to say that Iannetta is quite dreamy in that photo.

He's always dreamy...

I wish I could edit Livan out of that picture, though. Time for some mad photoshop fun.

Iannetta

See, I don’t get to actually watch games all that often, so I don’t get many good looks at the players. And the roster pics that I see most often (like on Gameday) aren’t always the best representatives of dreaminess.

And also, the umpire there is kind of dreamy, too.

Gnark

Livan is, uh, not dreamy in that picture.

Blast and botheration.

Well

Why do you think his nickname on PR is “Dreamy?” It’s not only because he’s a good catcher.

Blast and botheration.

Oh, I knew the reasons.

I just never had opportunity to see it for myself. Like I said, roster pics? Not always the best indicator of dreaminess.

As someone who will be stuck with Gameday

(usually at one in the morning) for half of next season, I feel your pain.

Blast and botheration.
