Spring Training Games #2 and #3

The Rockies will be playing simultaneously against the Diamondbacks and White Sox this afternoon. The Arizona game will be broadcast on MLB.TV, while the game at Hi Corbett versus the White Sox has no coverage as far as I'm aware, but you can probably follow along with MLB's GameDay via this link:

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/y2007/gd.html?2008_02_28_chamlb_colmlb_1&brand=mlb

and if you're not a subscriber to MLB.TV, you can follow along with the Arizona game here:

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/y2007/gd.html?2008_02_28_colmlb_arimlb_1&brand=mlb

Aaron Cook, Victor Zambrano and Brian Fuentes are scheduled to pitch against the Sox, Kip Wells and Manny Corpas will be in the Arizona game.

Go Rockies!

Thomas Harding
receives some camera time before the game, after appearing in the booth yesterday.

I wish it was 79F here.

Barmes just made a nice defensive play
in the Ari game. Kept the ball from going into the outfield.

I am
unfortunately in class, but just turned on the game (no sound, of course.)  Rockies up 2-0 on the Diamondbacks in the second.

Bottom of the 2nd just ended.
Wells got out of a jam after having men on 1st and 2nd.

Podsednik hit a groudnd-rule double,
Stewart K'ed, and Baker just singled in Pods.

Corpas should be pitching
once the bottom of the third starts.

Mark Grace on the D-backs radio broadcast
Said that the $8 million contract Corpas signed will buy a lot of sandpaper and vaseline.

It's sweet to know that Corpas still has that psychologoical edge of having the opponent think he's cheating heading into the season.

by Rox Girl on Feb 28, 2008 2:12 PM MST reply actions

They said the same thing last season
Apparently it's okay for Brandon Webb to get that kind of movement, though, because he doesn't throw 98.

Manny in a predicament
with the bases loaded. Ooooh, he doesn't deserve the new contract.

Oh wow
Just checked MLB.com for some box scores - anyone else seeing that the Fish beat the O's 16-3?  I mean, it doesn't mean much, considering the teams playing, but I honestly didn't believe the Marlins lineup (present or future) had that much pop.

New Pitcher?
Who's Micah Bowie?
Die-hard Rockies fan. On the bandwagon since 7/6/93. Not giving up my seat. EVER! rockiesfan4ever reffered you

Bowie
Is an NRI bidding for one of the remaining bullpen spots. If I'm not mistaken he is lefthanded.

non roster invitee
He's a darkhorse for a left handed relief role, but will most likely start the season in Colorado Springs.

Which Game
is he pitching in?
GO ROCKIES!!! JFK

by jrockies on Feb 28, 2008 2:41 PM MST up reply actions

Arizona, he did well in his inning
And apparently Buchholz has entered the White Sox game.

by Rox Girl on Feb 28, 2008 2:45 PM MST up reply actions

Another long out by Joe Koshansky
He just missed a three run homerun to end the Rockies fifth against the D-backs. Ramon Ramirez is now pitching.

by Rox Girl on Feb 28, 2008 2:52 PM MST reply actions

I always liked
watching Koshansky play in the Springs.  Watching him at the plate always gave me a much better sense of security than Shealy ever did, and as long as he doesn't become trade bait, it's nice to know that first is secure after Todd leaves.

Chris Nelson gets in the game for Tulo. How long ago did this happen?

Colleges?
What is going on with teams playing colleges for preseason work? The Red Sox beat BC 24-0 in 7 innings and the Nationals beat Georgetown 15-0. Who got to use the metal bats?

So evidently
I'd say no on Victor Zambrano.

Baker playing second.
Ball bounced off Koshansky and Baker was able to get it on the rebound. Got the ball back to Koshansky for the out at first.

Pedro Strop
not with the best inning so far, but eh . . .

Still, losing to the D'Backs any time isn't a good thing. Come on, 9th inning comeback.

Nix
a really bad bunt attempt with 1/2  0 out in the ninth.  Twice pops up a bunt (one foul) the second results in a 1-4 DP.

He looked really bad on both. Failure to execute = ticket to Colo Spgs.

4-6-3 DP to have the game
end in a tie. Really liked what I saw out of Baker at second.

The vibe
I'm getting from a lot of people is that Baker is becoming a spring front-runner at 2B?

IT'S WAAAAAY......
too early Re: 2B.  Might want to look into a knee injury to a AA/AAA pitcher.
