Spring Training Game #30

I guess Rox Girl didn't notice this game started an hour earlier than the those over the past few weeks.

No coverage of this game except through Gameday. Kip Wells makes one final start for the Rockies before moving to the 'pen for the regular season. Nick Green opposes him for this split-squad Angels team.

Yeah, I should have set something for autopost

anyway, as I just got back from some meetings in Middlebury that ran a little over. I'll be more on top of things next week when I'm back at home.

Troy and Garrett

have their swings on today after knocking balls out of the park for the 3-1 lead. That was Garret's first homer of the Spring; he must be saving all the others for the regular season.

If Tulo

can swing the bat on the road during the season as well as he has at sea level here in Arizona, he'll be in for a tremendous all around campaign.

Adding on to Tulo

I remember, early in the year last year, I saw an incredible player in Tulo. Back in April, I saw a player that could be like Derek Jeter. Drive the ball to RF, play excellent defense, be able to get on base, drive in runs and manufacture runs. He then struggled before finally picking it up in Mid May.
I see him being as a SS who plays amazing defense, hits .300, hits 25-30 homeruns a year, drives in 90-100, and scores 100+ a year.

Solid outing by Wells

3 baserunners in 3 innings, not too shabby.

I wager that by the end of the year we'll all be glad we had him around. I still think he can be useful.

And I'd say . . .

If he had a few more starts like that during the spring, he may have fooled us into believing he could have been a decent starter this season.

Thank God

He didn't do that. I like to believe I'm not that gullible, but I'm a baseball fan after all.

Just keep walking down the path boys...

Well

Well you never know. Best case scenario is he's more effective in the bullpen and can be a middle inning workhorse. Second realistic best case is that he's adequate enough that we can trade him for "future considerations" or a case of baseballs when some other team has an injury pop up in their rotation. The thing I like about baseball though, is that you just never know what's going to happen. There's always a Herges, Ritz, Freeman, etc out there that's going to surprise you. Personally, I'm hoping that Redman is our over-achiever this year. Of course there's always the surprise under-achiever to contend with, but we won't mention that.

I really wish this game had coverage other than gameday..

6-2 now and my 3 favorite players have homered, especially hilighted with garrett's 1st dinger of the spring! :)
