Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Here's a scary thought ...

The following excerpt is from an article on the Cleveland Indians' website about closer Joe Borowski (who blew a big save against the Red Sox Mon. night) being put on the disabled list (with a triceps strain) & who may replace him as their closer:

"Veteran righthander Jorge Julio (2.75 ERA) is the only other member of the Tribe's bullpen with extensive closing experience..."

Sorry if that brings back nightmares for anyone.  Corpas looks pretty good now, doesn't he?

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

I believe that

they meant to say “with extensive experience blowing saves”. It’s an understandable typo, I don’t really fault them for it. Though it is slightly appropriate that that shows up right before we start our series with the Padres…

Looks like

It will be Rafael Betancourt getting the save opportunities. He should have been getting them in the first place.

maybe, maybe not

The same article says Betancourt is 12-for-29 in lifetime save opportunities. That’s probably J. Julio territory.

But Betancourt gets the nod, on account of he never pitched for the D-Rays.

Astros fan for 46 frustrating years. Moving to CO in 4 years & maybe switching no. 1 team. I'm patient & loyal, but a half-century is enough. Cubs fans are nuts.

correcting myself

Julio didn’t pitch for the D-Rays, either. It was on the other Fla. team (Marlins) he had a 12.54 ERA.

He’s 99 for 132 in career save opportunities, but, alas, 0 for 5 with the Rockies.

Really?

Wow, I didn’t realize that he was 99 for 132. I guess a certain chilly October night sticks out in my mind a bit too much…
