Game #13: Jimenez vs. Wolf
Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres, Apr 15, 2008 8:05 PM MDT
The Rockies face one of the new pitchers the Padres acquired during the off season in Randy Wolf. Ubaldo Jimenez makes his third start of the season after picking up the win in April 8 contest against the Braves. He had one less walk (4) than he had in his first start of the season (5), but also struck out one less (3) than in his first start (4). So, what I'd like to see out of U-Ball tonight is for him to go seven innings (5 & 6 IP in his first two starts), fewer walks, and a good amount of K's.
Go Rockies!

As I said earlier,
give my regards to the Padres. Do us a favor and knock ‘em outta second place??
Good luck.

I love the poll question tonight. And I finally get to watch a game! Yay! Good thing, too, because so far the Rockies are 2-0 on Tuesday games. Let’s keep the trend up!
Is this poll question up at Gaslamp?
If it isn’t, it should be.
Speaking of
Whoo boy, I just went over and read their Game thread, and they’re letting us have it over the Rockpile entry this morning…
Who do people think they are?
Its not like we sit here and critisize and make fun of them all day long. Gosh.
Geez, someone needs to pull the stick out already
Stop taking yourselves so seriously, Purple Row.
High and mighty in the high altitude?
From such a classy blog, I’d figure a personal attack on someone’s community entry wouldn’t be on the menu, bad joke or not…
Attacked the 'Pit as well....
Because when I think classy, the first thing I think of is the Snakepit.
On a related note, I think I finally found where all the youtube and yahoo! commenters hang out.

These guys must REALLY like making enemies….
"I was tied to a chair and he had a baseball bat. Pissing him off was the smart thing to do."
Oh yeah
I saw that one too, I just forgot to paste it in. I mean…friendly inter-blog ribbing is cool, but I think some of the things they said were a bit too much. I suppose I have no room to speak because I did say something rather inflammatory this morning, which kind of started this whole thing, but I was more using it as a way to praise Rox Girl and Russ for the work that they do. If they feel like they need to warn me for it, then I accept that, and I will probably apologize to GLB. But still…this should be quelled before it gets any worse, and the GLB posters really don’t need to be on the offensive.
When I think classy...
I obviously think of bloggers who write about intentionally releasing disgusting bodily gases, in front of a nice girl, and directing at a group of total strangers who just so happen to root for a rival team.
Sheesh. Are they all 12 over at GLB?

Todd also draws a walk.
Matty, you know what to do.
There are the boos for him.
"Don't give up the ship!" - Capt. James Lawrence
Or for committing a rules violation that would have given Matty home plate anyway.
Rule 7.06(b): The catcher, without the ball in his possession, has no right to block the pathway of the runner attempting to score.
by Tyler Boschert on Apr 15, 2008 8:16 PM MDT up reply actions
Exactly.
If he caught the ball, Matt would have been called out. It’s so obvious that blue saw the ball go out of his glove and called the safe.
I have to say...
that the Pads’ radio broadcast team is probably the best I’ve heard besides Jeff and Jack. They’re entertaining to listen to, but at the same time they really let the action on the field do the talking instead of trying to be the story.
And they’ve only got two things wrong so far—they called Tulo the ‘07 ROY and the ‘07 MVP. I like them for that.
I say that
and then they go and make a crack about Matty not having touched the plate yet.
by Tyler Boschert on Apr 15, 2008 8:11 PM MDT up reply actions
Sometimes...
I wish he wasn’t so aggressive at the plate. First 2 pitches were balls. Could’ve been looking at a 2-0 count.
At least he doesnt have streaks where he is patient then aggressive.
Nothing makes me more mad than watching Todd go after first pitch, not his thing.
Matty though….I expect it.

They both were difficult but
I think I’m going to go the other way on this. I thought Yorvit should have gone down and tried to get his chest over the first one, but I thought he made a good effort on the second one and it just got away. Either way, a runner is standing on third, and U-Ball needs to try and get the ball over in the air.
I guess.
First was a wicked hop that he was in front of but hit his shinguard. Second was a 5-hole that Y was just slow, IMO. Regardless…two things we can agree on: both were terrible pitches that Y failed save—and neither one matters, as no run scores.
That's what DavidOhno and I were talking about last week..
Yorvit is just not good at blocking the plate.

Gotten two slick outs with the runner at third.
One more, my friend. Wriggle your way out of this.
And the Rockies escape
after a couple wild pitches put a man in scoring postion.

Wow, nice UBall
Very nice pitching. Nasty slider to Iguchi, jammed Gonzalez nicely and then a weak grounder to short. Very nice.
Good job against A-Gone

Hmmm
Really, tough to say, because the catchers glove doesn’t move, but if it catches the plate, its right on the black.
Nix and Taveras twice, all 3 times Wolf has gotten the call.
Seems like
a “pitcher’s umpire” behind the plate tonight. From what I’ve gathered, both U-Ball and Wolf have gotten calls on the sides to swing their way.
Maybe he just shows too much patience at the plate?
Or he can’t make up his mind? Maybe the bat is too heavy?

I was part

No trouble,
it’s just that the stuff with GLB could have gone in the Rockpile, where it would have been appropriate. But the game was about to start and it had a better chance of receiving a response, so I can see why it was put here.

This team is in serious trouble
all you young rosy sky folks better face up to the reality. That these guys are a break even squad outside the streak. They banked much of their success on two unproven commodities who are now being seen for a second and third time around by these squads. Last year they weren’t. These big leaguers make adjustments and know how to work you.
Add this to 3 or 4 horrible performances by your “so called Ace (who is actually a number 2 or 3 at best based on his talent level. You have a bad starting staff who will take you out of many games.
They also banked a pretty high premium on a two time repeater in the minors who has shown why he was forced to repeat levels.

I played pro ball for three years. I doubt most of you have. I said at the outset (last November) that I felt they needed to add another mid level starter and a legitimate player at second. I felt this our system or be damned approach which worked last year could be their albatross this year.
Given the expectations placed on them, I felt they could take a step back. The question now is if or when they will pull a trigger because they do need some help in the pitching dept.

Playing pro ball has NOTHING to do with it.
You don’t judge a season by 13 games.
And if you played pro ball, you should know this too. So if anything, you contradicted yourself.
We all know this isn’t a perfect team, but no team in the majors are. Look at the Tigers? Did you have any criticism of them? We all know this team isn’t playing like this team will play. It’s what the “pros” call a slump.

99 9-10 2nd best (double ouch)

Not a diss on Yorvy at all, in fact after games like tonight he deserves a breather..

Here's my lineup...
Nix
Spilbourghs
Helton
Holliday
Atkins
Hawpe
Barmes
Iannetta
Redman
Nix can work a count, and I’d like to see him in a position where he’s not being pitched around to face an every 5th day guy. Sit Tulo, and give Barmes a start with Spilly a chance to hit ahead of Beardo.
There's only one Rocktober!!
kinda crazy and out there but
Tulo
Barmes
Helton
Holliday
Atkins
Hawpe
Spilly
Iannetta
Redman
Maybe tryin somethin outta the ordinary like hittin Tulo first for a game can jumpstart our 30 mil man
Tonight's Game
So I went to the game tonight, being in San Diego with my wife for the American Association of Cancer Research conference. First let me say San Diego is a beautiful city, and PetCo is a gorgeous stadium. Second let me say that I saw more action in the conference rooms at the convention center listening to stuffy scientists talk about tumor suppression theories than I saw from the boys tonight. Absolutely listless. I have now been to three of the first 13 games of the season (two at home and one on the road), and they haven’t hit squat yet. For the life of me, I can’t figure out what is wrong with this team. Their better than this, and it’s seriously upsetting me. Pull your heads out boys! Every last one of you looks uptight at the plate, and the errors in the field, both mental and physical, (I’m looking at you Ubaldo!), are unacceptable. OK, I feel better now. I’ll post some pictures of Petco after I get home to Denver tomorrow.
