Game #13: Jimenez vs. Wolf

Colorado Rockies @ San Diego Padres

The Rockies face one of the new pitchers the Padres acquired during the off season in Randy Wolf. Ubaldo Jimenez makes his third start of the season after picking up the win in April 8 contest against the Braves. He had one less walk (4) than he had in his first start of the season (5), but also struck out one less (3) than in his first start (4). So, what I'd like to see out of U-Ball tonight is for him to go seven innings (5 & 6 IP in his first two starts), fewer walks, and a good amount of K's.

Go Rockies!

As I said earlier,

give my regards to the Padres. Do us a favor and knock ‘em outta second place??

Good luck.

Haha

I love the poll question tonight. And I finally get to watch a game! Yay! Good thing, too, because so far the Rockies are 2-0 on Tuesday games. Let’s keep the trend up!

Speaking of

Whoo boy, I just went over and read their Game thread, and they’re letting us have it over the Rockpile entry this morning…

Who do people think they are?
Its not like we sit here and critisize and make fun of them all day long. Gosh.
Geez, someone needs to pull the stick out already
Stop taking yourselves so seriously, Purple Row.
High and mighty in the high altitude?
From such a classy blog, I’d figure a personal attack on someone’s community entry wouldn’t be on the menu, bad joke or not…

Attacked the 'Pit as well....

Because when I think classy, the first thing I think of is the Snakepit.

On a related note, I think I finally found where all the youtube and yahoo! commenters hang out.

These guys must REALLY like making enemies….

Oh yeah

I saw that one too, I just forgot to paste it in. I mean…friendly inter-blog ribbing is cool, but I think some of the things they said were a bit too much. I suppose I have no room to speak because I did say something rather inflammatory this morning, which kind of started this whole thing, but I was more using it as a way to praise Rox Girl and Russ for the work that they do. If they feel like they need to warn me for it, then I accept that, and I will probably apologize to GLB. But still…this should be quelled before it gets any worse, and the GLB posters really don’t need to be on the offensive.

by oo_nrb on Apr 15, 2008 8:02 PM MDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

When I think classy...

I obviously think of bloggers who write about intentionally releasing disgusting bodily gases, in front of a nice girl, and directing at a group of total strangers who just so happen to root for a rival team.

Sheesh. Are they all 12 over at GLB?

This isn’t exactly on topic. Sorry, but we do have rules about game threads being for discussing the game.

Todd also draws a walk.

Matty, you know what to do.

There are the boos for him.

"Don't give up the ship!" - Capt. James Lawrence

by Russ on Apr 15, 2008 8:11 PM MDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Haha, booing him.

How about they boo their catcher for not even catching the ball.

by roxintober on Apr 15, 2008 8:11 PM MDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Or for committing a rules violation that would have given Matty home plate anyway.

Rule 7.06(b): The catcher, without the ball in his possession, has no right to block the pathway of the runner attempting to score.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 15, 2008 8:16 PM MDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Exactly.

If he caught the ball, Matt would have been called out. It’s so obvious that blue saw the ball go out of his glove and called the safe.

by roxintober on Apr 15, 2008 8:17 PM MDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I have to say...

that the Pads’ radio broadcast team is probably the best I’ve heard besides Jeff and Jack. They’re entertaining to listen to, but at the same time they really let the action on the field do the talking instead of trying to be the story.

And they’ve only got two things wrong so far—they called Tulo the ‘07 ROY and the ‘07 MVP. I like them for that.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 15, 2008 8:11 PM MDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I say that

and then they go and make a crack about Matty not having touched the plate yet.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 15, 2008 8:11 PM MDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sometimes...

I wish he wasn’t so aggressive at the plate. First 2 pitches were balls. Could’ve been looking at a 2-0 count.

by TehChamp on Apr 15, 2008 8:14 PM MDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

At least he doesnt have streaks where he is patient then aggressive.

Nothing makes me more mad than watching Todd go after first pitch, not his thing.

Matty though….I expect it.

Lazy Yorvie.

Runner on 3rd, no outs.

Yorvie has gotta go tell UBall that the ER is on the catcher.

by roxintober on Apr 15, 2008 8:19 PM MDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

They both were difficult but

I think I’m going to go the other way on this. I thought Yorvit should have gone down and tried to get his chest over the first one, but I thought he made a good effort on the second one and it just got away. Either way, a runner is standing on third, and U-Ball needs to try and get the ball over in the air.

by David OhNo on Apr 15, 2008 8:22 PM MDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I guess.

First was a wicked hop that he was in front of but hit his shinguard. Second was a 5-hole that Y was just slow, IMO. Regardless…two things we can agree on: both were terrible pitches that Y failed save—and neither one matters, as no run scores.

I was part

of the problem earlier today, and then it got brought up again earlier in the game thread, and I got in trouble for that too. Actually, I’ll probably get in trouble again for this one, so let’s leave it at that. Best not to dwell on the past anyways.

No trouble,

it’s just that the stuff with GLB could have gone in the Rockpile, where it would have been appropriate. But the game was about to start and it had a better chance of receiving a response, so I can see why it was put here.

You want the Padres to get the first no-hitter in franchise history

against the Rox? I’d prefer that the all-time great Hideo Nomo remain the only member of the “I no-hit the Rockies” Club.

Jinx what?

the No hitter?

No Hitters are really hard to do…you have to have a lot of luck to throw a no no

What am going to do with all these "Jeff Baker for 2nd" bumper stickers?

Oh great.

She said, hey ramblin' boy, why don't you settle down? Denver is your kind of town, there is the gold and there ain't nobody like WE, the number one fans of the man named Tulo-witzki!

Umm...

In play, (runs) is even worse than the aforementioned In play, (outs). At least, when we are on the other side of it.

4-0 2 on…

PULL TULO! It’s his fault…..put in Barmes!

I'm sorry

But that may have been the dagger in the Rockies heart this game. Wolf’s been unhittable, and asked to score 4 runs against him and that bullpen, OUCH.

Trevor Hoffman is in the Padres' bullpen.

I am confident in his ability to yak the lead our way.

Trevor Hoffman will get his revenge!

He will show us. And Holliday will get thrown out at the plate.

These intentional walks...

they always work for us Hurdle, never fail, just like the Torrealba “hit and run” plays.

This is what scares me about Jimenez

He is just so inconsistent it is just so annoying. I don’t know if he starts to lose concentration and stops putting forth the extra effort, or if he just really tires out pretty early.

Yea!

Kip Wells!

I’m Positive!

Kip Wells...

may be the least of our worries.

What would be the most of our worries?

You know, besides the 5-7 record, the complete lack of production from our shortstop, right fielder, catcher, and second baseman, the maddening inconsistency of the starting pitching, and our abysmal hitting with RISP.

Oh...

and the fact that the Diamondbacks have been flat RIDICULOUS so far.
