Game #14: Redman vs Germano
Colorado @ San Diego
I should be back in time from tonight's Tourists game to actually be able to comment in a game thread again. And now that I have a computer, I might actually be able to do it, pending a working Internet connection. Okay, one hurdle to clear at a time, I guess. At any rate, let's not let another Padres pitcher get a near no-hitter off of us. In fact, karma would be kind if we got a near all-hitter against Germano.
Let's go Rockies!

Starting with a positive
Rather than “going negative” as to Redman starting, let’s start positive. Josh Fogg is NOT starting. He gave up 9 ER in 2 innings tonight to the Cubs, putting his ERA for the year at 13.91.
Go Redman! The wise personnel choice.

The Denver Post
Gives tonight’s lineup as:
CF Ryan Spilborghs
SS Troy Tulowitzki
1B Todd Helton
LF Matt Holliday
3B Garrett Atkins
RF Brad Hawpe
2B Clint Barmes
C Chris Iannetta
LHP Jeff Francis
Spilly? Leading off? I have no real objection, I’m just wondering want Clint’s been sipping?

extra innings is going to kill me today
The rockies game is on the same channel as the yankees red sox game, which is currently 11-9 in the sixth as Latroy Hawkins attempts to give up more runs.

Put up or shut up time
For Francis. He needs to dominate tonight. Also, Iannetta and Barmes are in a great position to impress for more playing time, and they need to show it.

scoring early is always fun. We should follow it up by scoring in every inning. How fun would that be?

Yeah, I’m excited to watch some baseball tonight. After sitting through that torture that was the Avs game last night, a Rockies game feels like vacation. I can’t wait for me to have to eat those words in 4 innings lolol

Of the top ROY candidates last year
Tulo & Hunter Pence are in absolute funks.
Chris Young is hitting HR’s, but his avg. is barely over .200
Ryan Braun’s way off his pace from a year ago.
Who will break the Sophomore Slump first?

very strange
I’m watching a baseball game and a hockey game at the same time. I’d say it’s polar opposites in terms of how the games are played (basic fast-slow comparison).

Last night had plenty of fighting breaking out.
It was ridiculous. And for what it’s worth, baseball fights have always bored me to no end. Not that hockey fights are particularly interesting, but at least they have potential. You’d think with benches and bullpens clearing in baseball fights more actual…fighting would happen, but it’s mostly a ton of posturing…for nothing. Hockey fights are boring, too, for the most part, but occasionally you get a free-swinging slugfest as opposed to the more common jersey tug-of-war.

Red and Redman
Why is it I’m more confident in Redman coming into tonight than I have been with any of the other starters save maybe Cook? I think we did find us a left-handed Fogg. The youngsters can be shaky or spectacular, but the old(er) horse at the bottom just gets it done with minimal stuff. Here’s hoping that U-Ball and Morales can take away something from this and work on becoming pitchers rather than throwers. I just don’t know what’s up with Francis though.

Dilemma
Now I know I’m too easy on Clint, but I’m getting close to saying he’s the man at 2B. Which kinda poses a dilemma. I like Nix at 2B too, but I don’t see him being capable of playing the other infield positions required of a bench player…. And he’s out of options….. If this were a rebulding year, it’d be easy to carry a limited role rookie on the bench…. But should this Barmy resurgence continue…. What do you do with Nix? Too soon to worry about such things of course, but I’m just saying.
by IowaRockie on Apr 16, 2008 8:58 PM MDT 0 recs
Clint is good, and he's hot right now, but...
His bat is too slow, and until a miracle happens pitchers are going to eventually find the hole in his swing.

Bat speed
Actually, the bat speed is what I find most interesting. Prior to his injury, Clint had great bat speed… Post-injury, it was terrible. Is it possible the speed is coming back? I think it has at least to some degree.

Look at it from the opposing team's perspective
Who would you rather face as a batter- Barmes or Nix?
I think it’s a no brainer.
Here’s novel baseball concept: play Barmes until he stops hitting. Give him the same shot Nix got.
