Nice

Nice to see the lineup with Spillborghs and Iannetta from last night that worked so well isn’t the same one we’ll be using tonight.

by RyanBuff on Apr 17, 2008 7:19 PM MDT reply actions

Good ol' HurdleLogic (tm)

thinking that this constitutes our “best lineup” against Peavy (the starters, being starters, must ERGO be better than the backups?)

That’s my guess.

Just make it stop.

by Silverblood on Apr 17, 2008 7:37 PM MDT up reply actions

Best explanation I can think of

I swear we win in spite of Hurdle sometimes.

by RyanBuff on Apr 17, 2008 7:41 PM MDT up reply actions

meet you half way

I’m on board with not starting Ianetta, and may join you on bashing Hurdlelogic if he’s not starting Ianetta tomorrow. I’m fine with Wily T over Spilly tonight though. Remember how Spilly wore down pretty fast last year when Wily was hurt? Wily is still the starting CF in my book. I think we’ll see more Spilly in the coming weeks though.

by IowaRockie on Apr 17, 2008 8:03 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah I agree

Spilly can’t play too much, although Hawpe seems to be getting more pt against left handing pitching this year. Ianetta isn’t the starter yet, but he should catch 2-3 days a week. Barmes, though, needs to be ridden until he cools off.

By the way

I am obviously new here in case anyone cares. I go to school at Colorado in Boulder and have been a Rockies fan through the thick and thin. I’m hoping to chat it up on some of these game threads when my schedule allows it.

by RyanBuff on Apr 17, 2008 7:43 PM MDT reply actions

Welcome to the Row!

I’m one of the hoary old veterans, so I’ll extend the hand of welcome to the n00bie. Game threads are a lot of fun.

Relatively speaking.

Well, I've been on the Row since 2006

So in comparison, that does make me a veteran, yes. But you two might BE fossils.

By the way, this is an excellent baseball blog. Has to be one of the best out there hands down.

How's Boulder these days

I imagine the weather makes it tough to focus on class….I think once the sunny 70 degree days hit my attendance and productivity plummeted.

by moomacher on Apr 17, 2008 7:52 PM MDT up reply actions

Boulder

The weather hasn’t been that great really. We had a couple 70 degree days Monday and Tuesday then it snowed again last night and was cold again today. You’re definately right though, when the weather picks up like it should in the coming weeks class is going to be difficult to attend. Boulder is such an awesome city though. I really like it.

Really needs a solid outing tonight. Him and Cook need to be the stabilizing forces in this rotation and so far only Cook has done that.

by RyanBuff on Apr 17, 2008 8:16 PM MDT reply actions

A bit

Still love watching him hit with two strikes though. I think I actually feel more confident in Helton with two strikes than at 3-1 count. Can’t think of anther guy that would be so annoying to the opposing pitcher.

Re: Rockhead

Just noticed your question about XM Radio last night. To answer it: YES YES YES. It’s a must for an out-of-town fan (unless you do Extra Innings, but I have no TV). The only possible reason I can see for not getting it would be if you can’t abide listening to out-of-town announcers when the Rox are on the road (they pick up the home town’s broadcasters), but otherwise it’s superb.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 17, 2008 8:24 PM MDT up reply actions

by rockhead on Apr 17, 2008 8:25 PM MDT up reply actions

Second

I’ll second that. I have Extra innings as well (about the only way I ever get to see the Rockies), but XM is great too for: At work, on the road, or just working around the house. Plus, I’m a radio nut anyway and there’s something for everyone on XM.

by IowaRockie on Apr 17, 2008 8:27 PM MDT up reply actions

I'll chime in

I like XM for the games because I find games blacked out from time to time on Extra Innings, and if that happens, I can listen on XM. Plus if I’m traveling, I know I can still listen to the game.

It's like living with a six-year old.

Okay, this is Peavy and all and as such perhaps I should give the line-up a mulligan….. But I’m kinda thinking it’s time to drop Tulo down in the lineup for 2 or 3 games. Maybe even 8th. Maybe force him to be a bit more patient, but mostly just to shake it up.

by RyanBuff on Apr 17, 2008 9:06 PM MDT up reply actions

uhhhh......

Geez, I’m not getting paid for this. I’m just throwing out half-baked ideas here! ;) Okay, how about Barmes? That’s really tick off Tulo. The guy he thought he buried last year steals his slot. Yep, that may just be enough to get it done. Either that or just shift the entire line-up up one.

by IowaRockie on Apr 17, 2008 9:10 PM MDT up reply actions

Barmes

He would be the only logical option I see. Unless you slide Atkins in that 2-hole which could backfire on you RBI wise.

by RyanBuff on Apr 17, 2008 9:11 PM MDT up reply actions

Actually

Helton would be great in the 2 hole with his OBP and LH bat, and Holliday, Atkins, and Hawpe could all logically slide up one slot quite easily in a pinch. It’s not ideal.

by IowaRockie on Apr 17, 2008 9:13 PM MDT up reply actions

Very true

Not the ideal speed you’d like in the 2-hole but Helton definately could hit there.

See, that's U-Ball's problem.

He looks great for the first eighty-ish pitches, and then hits a wall.

But then again, he’s a flamethrower. With Francis being more of a finesse guy, I’m not as concerned. That said, I’d still like to see him be a bit more efficient.

Gold Gloves

I don’t think the writers vote on Gold Gloves. Isn’t it the players and coaches who do that?

Wow. I always thought he had one. That’s amazing.

Nope.

Pitch count

What’s Peavy’s pitch count at? Maybe the goal should be to take and foul off as many pitches as possible the next couple innings just to try to get rid of him. Either that or tell the umpire you overheard him talking ill about his mother. Anything to get rid of him soon.

    Yeah, that's the big hurdle.

Helluva lot cheaper than Extra Innings, though.

But I think of it as an investment, because I don’t need TV or a conventional radio now—all of my music and a TON of great shows are on XM.
