Game #23: Jimenez vs. Kuroda
Colorado Rockies at Los Angeles Dodgers, Apr 25, 2008 8:40 PM MDT
The Rockies get to face the latest Japanese import to the United States, Hiroki Kuroda. He'll have to wait for his Coors Field welcoming, however, as this game is in Los Angeles.
You guys are on your own tonight. Tomorrow I need to catch an early train to Philly to attend a history symposium at Temple in honor of the late military historian Russell Weigley, so a 10:40 ET start time is too late for me. I need my sleep. Someone keep an eye out on the comments; if it gets to 400, someone start a FanPost for the overflow. I'll also be at Shea Stadium when this posts, so behave. ;)
Go Rockies!

Tulo back to the 2nd spot? Hmmmmmmmmm
Torrealba & Nix again? OH god make it stop!

Interesting lines for the two imported pitchers...
Same number of games started and Kuroda has the better ERA and Whip, but Ubaldo has less hits, hr’s and more k’s, but he also has 3x the number of walks!

Hmm...
With the exception of Podsednik, this line-up makes me feel funny. Not in a good way.
One more negative comment...
I thought I turned the game on right at 10:40, but it was already 2 out with Helton batting.
OK, I’m all positivity from here on out.
I've watched a few LA games recently...
and yes, they are booing. They boo when he comes up, and they boo when he inevitably gets out.
Were Boston fans booing David Ortiz?
I don’t understand that kind of reaction.

Observations from around the NL
Shawn Chacon just gave up his first hit of the night, a bases empty single, and is down, 2-0.
The Padres are being no-hit by Randy Johnson.
The Marlins and Brewers look headed to extra innnings tied, 0-0.
Every day is a Holliday!
That last score is a little suprising..
You would think that between Prince and Braun there would be more runs scored. Between their hitting and defense I mean.

I wonder what Willy T thinks about all this
I saw a headline on MLB.COM about Willy not happy about his role, I’ll have to go read that article.
Here's the first three paragraphs
Taveras arrived at Dodger Stadium to discover he was not in the starting lineup for the third straight game. Scott Podsednik got the start.
“I thought I was the everyday center fielder, and I haven’t played in the last three days,” Taveras said. “So I would like to speak to him as to why I’m not playing.”
After the closed-door meeting, Hurdle explained that Taveras is still his primary center fielder, but he wanted to ride Podsednik’s hot hand. Podsednik went 3-for-5 with a double in Thursday’s 4-2 victory over the Cubs, and came off the bench for a single in Wednesday’s 7-6 loss to the Cubs.
—-—-—-—-—-——
Good to know that Willy has the team’s best interests at heart.
And anyone can see
the above posts about Pods and figure out that, at least this time, HurdleLogic was right.

or does this LA announcer put anyone else to sleep? I am on the east coast and it is pushing 1 am here, like most Rockies games for me, so I am used to being up this late. For some reason tonight I am way sleepy. This guy is too monotone or something. Anyone else have this problem?

Vin’s mellow, to be sure, but I find it a refreshing change of pace. He’s actually my favorite baseball announcer, anywhere, period.
by Tyler Boschert on Apr 25, 2008 10:57 PM MDT up reply actions
No
Vin Scully’s one of the best. His style is understandably old-fashioned (the guy’s like 110 years old or something), but his color and vocabulary are peerless, and of course he’s got a wealth of historical knowledge. I’ll take him over the frat-boy screaming of modern-day announcers every time.
Yeah I did notice
his old fashion style. I guess I am used to the guys we have who talk about the most moronic stuff sometimes just to fill air space. and Scully is all alone and I think that is also another reason why tonight I am feeling a bit drowsy.

That's why
I always keep my scroll my browser up between plays. A few people on this board are always 10-15 seconds ahead of me.
Thats a good idea.
I am going to have to do that from now on.

I think it's pretty cheap.
I forget how much it is, but in spite of the crappy customer service and lackluster video quality, it’s worth it to be able to watch my team every day from the east coast.
I couldn't agree more.
Last year I did the $15 plan and was watching it on the 400k. I decided I wanted the best quality for the best team in the NL.r so I went with the $20/month package. Best investment I could ever make. The real reward though is when I get to Coors field in July and can see them live and actually know everything about every player. new and old.

What sucks
Is that you have to pay that much for what is essentially free technology. I watched my Tarheels play the first 3 rounds of the NCAA tournament for free. But least there’s a way for out-of-area folks to see our Rox.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings. ~ Earl Wilson
Yeah I watched that as well
I thought it was sweet that CBS did that for free. I don’t mind paying for my professional sports. It is a bit different for college. They are not getting any of that money for playing so we should not have to pay to watch them play online. I do wish though that I could see the local Rockies commercials. I don’t really like watching a white screen with no noise.

And then he would go in to play 2B?
Um
We still have Barmes on the bench.
Just make it stop.

Oh, I don't really count Barmes as being on the roster
I retain my sanity that way.
Until recently
I was the same way. But he’s won me back (for now…)

Two more, Matt.

I sure hope
Herges does not get suspended for that retarded Mitchell report. That would be a huge blow to an already shoddy bullpen.
no worries
no one in the report is being popped. at least that’s my understanding at this point.

Please, no.
It’s getting late – even here in Denver. I don’t know how you east coast folks do it.

Nice work, Merge!
If Nix is hitting, I will castrate Clint Hurdle and strangle him with his own testicles.
Unless, by some miracle, Jayson gets a hit. Then I’ll worship at the Altar of the Unnaturally Red Face.

We already knew that.
This was a 2-out inning all along.
We should just
take the risk and put Nix on waivers, make Barmes our every day second basemen, and bring someone up that can actually hit the ball. Nix just isn’t working out.

Is there anyone that goes to the games
and blogs live from the actual game on here? That would be kinda cool I would think.

but unlike Nix, the talent to hit at the Major League level is there. Tulo will get there.

We should put him back in the 7th spot.
He seems to do well there. Last year that is where he found his groove, then we moved him to the 2 hole. too bad we cant put Posednik and Taveras as the every day 1 and 2.

I'm turning negative.
I only have two more half innings in me, three if we’re winning.
Guhhh
I was meaning to leave a few hours ago, and just check in briefly, but now that I’m here, I can’t leave.

I know we all like Tulo,
but, honestly, the guy has been in a big-time slump all season…I see no reason to bat him second until he starts producing like he can.
Seriously
I love Tulo as much as anyone, but he needs to hit eighth right now.

If we were playing Iannetta and Barmes, I'd agree.
But with Bad and Worse playing C and 2B right now, I think 7th is ignominious enough.
