Game #23: Jimenez vs. Kuroda

Colorado Rockies at Los Angeles Dodgers, Apr 25, 2008 8:40 PM MDT

The Rockies get to face the latest Japanese import to the United States, Hiroki Kuroda. He'll have to wait for his Coors Field welcoming, however, as this game is in Los Angeles.

You guys are on your own tonight. Tomorrow I need to catch an early train to Philly to attend a history symposium at Temple in honor of the late military historian Russell Weigley, so a 10:40 ET start time is too late for me. I need my sleep. Someone keep an eye out on the comments; if it gets to 400, someone start a FanPost for the overflow. I'll also be at Shea Stadium when this posts, so behave. ;)

Go Rockies!

Pods starts again, I'm kinda ok w/ as long as its not too much from Spilly either.

Tulo back to the 2nd spot? Hmmmmmmmmm

Torrealba & Nix again? OH god make it stop!

Interesting lines for the two imported pitchers...

Same number of games started and Kuroda has the better ERA and Whip, but Ubaldo has less hits, hr’s and more k’s, but he also has 3x the number of walks!

Hmm...

With the exception of Podsednik, this line-up makes me feel funny. Not in a good way.

One more negative comment...

I thought I turned the game on right at 10:40, but it was already 2 out with Helton batting.

OK, I’m all positivity from here on out.

Observations from around the NL

Shawn Chacon just gave up his first hit of the night, a bases empty single, and is down, 2-0.

The Padres are being no-hit by Randy Johnson.

The Marlins and Brewers look headed to extra innnings tied, 0-0.

I wonder what Willy T thinks about all this

I saw a headline on MLB.COM about Willy not happy about his role, I’ll have to go read that article.

by Roberbola on Apr 25, 2008 10:13 PM MDT reply actions

Here's the first three paragraphs

Taveras arrived at Dodger Stadium to discover he was not in the starting lineup for the third straight game. Scott Podsednik got the start.

“I thought I was the everyday center fielder, and I haven’t played in the last three days,” Taveras said. “So I would like to speak to him as to why I’m not playing.”

After the closed-door meeting, Hurdle explained that Taveras is still his primary center fielder, but he wanted to ride Podsednik’s hot hand. Podsednik went 3-for-5 with a double in Thursday’s 4-2 victory over the Cubs, and came off the bench for a single in Wednesday’s 7-6 loss to the Cubs.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 25, 2008 10:57 PM MDT up reply actions

No

Vin Scully’s one of the best. His style is understandably old-fashioned (the guy’s like 110 years old or something), but his color and vocabulary are peerless, and of course he’s got a wealth of historical knowledge. I’ll take him over the frat-boy screaming of modern-day announcers every time.

I thought it was sweet that CBS did that for free. I don’t mind paying for my professional sports. It is a bit different for college. They are not getting any of that money for playing so we should not have to pay to watch them play online. I do wish though that I could see the local Rockies commercials. You know I gues it isn't even May yet..

It took us until June to figure everything out last year. Lets hope we can make that a month early this year and get it right in May. Then we should be able to track down those damn D-Backs and wint he division this time around.

Optimism.

A terminal illness for a Rockies fan.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 26, 2008 12:43 AM MDT up reply actions

Optimisim is all we have had (prior to last year)..

It is the pessimism that use to always get me. Now I can cling to that hope at least until like July or August.

Strike out, Throw out! going to Top 12th!

No it wasn't

Ethier flied out.

Just make it stop.

by Silverblood on Apr 26, 2008 12:50 AM MDT up reply actions

I gotta say...

I like how we keep forcing them to pop up when they are trying to hit and run. Makes executing that play a bit more difficult.

by OutHereInPA on Apr 26, 2008 12:48 AM MDT reply actions

Too bad his hitting

can’t help his case.

Just make it stop.

by Silverblood on Apr 26, 2008 12:50 AM MDT up reply actions

That's why I said "making."

Present progressive tense. No sense in saying a guy with fewer hits than Rick Astley is off the Suck List. But 2 CS in critical situations helps.

Every day is a Holliday!

Cripes

Yorvit did it again.

Just make it stop.

by Silverblood on Apr 26, 2008 12:49 AM MDT reply actions

Dont worry Yorvit is making up for the 30%( or whatever it was) he threw out last year

in this one game tonight. We will see this again, o I would say, maybe a month from now?

Wow

That was a pathetic inning.

Just make it stop.

by Silverblood on Apr 26, 2008 12:57 AM MDT reply actions

It may be just me

but if we’ve scored 7 runs and tied it in the ninth, we must have had at least a few good ones in there. Funny that.

Just make it stop.

by Silverblood on Apr 26, 2008 12:58 AM MDT up reply actions

Perhaps, but three good innings

does not make up for four weeks of about 85% FAIL.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 26, 2008 1:00 AM MDT up reply actions

It does not

But there have been some “as opposed to fail” innings tonight.

Just make it stop.

Where's the Blake Street Bombers when you need them?

I guess they’d have to be fans of Japanese baseball.
