Game #23: Jimenez vs. Kuroda

Colorado Rockies @ Los Angeles Dodgers

The Rockies get to face the latest Japanese import to the United States, Hiroki Kuroda. He'll have to wait for his Coors Field welcoming, however, as this game is in Los Angeles.

You guys are on your own tonight. Tomorrow I need to catch an early train to Philly to attend a history symposium at Temple in honor of the late military historian Russell Weigley, so a 10:40 ET start time is too late for me. I need my sleep. Someone keep an eye out on the comments; if it gets to 400, someone start a FanPost for the overflow. I'll also be at Shea Stadium when this posts, so behave. ;)

Go Rockies!

Pods starts again, I'm kinda ok w/ as long as its not too much from Spilly either.

Tulo back to the 2nd spot? Hmmmmmmmmm

Torrealba & Nix again? OH god make it stop!

Interesting lines for the two imported pitchers...

Same number of games started and Kuroda has the better ERA and Whip, but Ubaldo has less hits, hr’s and more k’s, but he also has 3x the number of walks!

Hmm...

With the exception of Podsednik, this line-up makes me feel funny. Not in a good way.

One more negative comment...

I thought I turned the game on right at 10:40, but it was already 2 out with Helton batting.

OK, I’m all positivity from here on out.

I've watched a few LA games recently...

and yes, they are booing. They boo when he comes up, and they boo when he inevitably gets out.

Were Boston fans booing David Ortiz?

Observations from around the NL

Shawn Chacon just gave up his first hit of the night, a bases empty single, and is down, 2-0.

The Padres are being no-hit by Randy Johnson.

The Marlins and Brewers look headed to extra innnings tied, 0-0.

Every day is a Holliday!

I wonder what Willy T thinks about all this

I saw a headline on MLB.COM about Willy not happy about his role, I’ll have to go read that article.

by Roberbola on Apr 25, 2008 10:13 PM MDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Here's the first three paragraphs

Taveras arrived at Dodger Stadium to discover he was not in the starting lineup for the third straight game. Scott Podsednik got the start.

“I thought I was the everyday center fielder, and I haven’t played in the last three days,” Taveras said. “So I would like to speak to him as to why I’m not playing.”

After the closed-door meeting, Hurdle explained that Taveras is still his primary center fielder, but he wanted to ride Podsednik’s hot hand. Podsednik went 3-for-5 with a double in Thursday’s 4-2 victory over the Cubs, and came off the bench for a single in Wednesday’s 7-6 loss to the Cubs.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 25, 2008 10:57 PM MDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No

Vin Scully’s one of the best. His style is understandably old-fashioned (the guy’s like 110 years old or something), but his color and vocabulary are peerless, and of course he’s got a wealth of historical knowledge. I’ll take him over the frat-boy screaming of modern-day announcers every time.

I doubt Nix could hit an ice cream truck if he wanted to

According to the Rockies offical site

Hurdle said he had to play him sooner or later, if not then he’d have to move him. He (Nix) is out of Minor league options so he’d have to clear waivers if he were sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs

O sweet.

I always assumed you were local to Denver. You are always posting on here. Even last year I remember seeing your name. I just figured you were close (by location) to the team.

That’s why I’ve been at Mets games, since I haven’t been to a real (Rockies) baseball game since last August.

My parents flew me home for Game 3 of the World Series

and I have tickets to a Rockies game at Wrigley on June 1, but by the time I get home it will have been nearly a full year since I’ve seen a game at Coors Field.

God, I miss home.

Ok that makes sense.

I am a East cost kid who has family in CO so I get out there once every three years at least. This July is one of those times. I am planning on moving that way once I graduate from college.

by OutHereInPA on Apr 25, 2008 11:51 PM MDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Also in NY

I am a Colorado guy who moved to Brooklyn 8 months and never plan to move back. I plan to follow the Rockies, of course, but Denver isn’t for me anymore.

Good call.

I love Colorado and the Mountain West in general. I’m in self-imposed exile to Illinois for college, but you can bet I’ll be headed straight back once my education is over.

Hopefully, you will love Colorado as much as I (okay, we) do.

Yeah the East is to populized for me...

Also way more conservative than out west. I am a big country kid and I can find that in CO. Ill take the middle-of-no-where-mountains any day… thats basically where I live now.

Can someone please tell me

why Manny always drops down and appears to be writing in the dirt every time he pitches? does he keep track of the pitch count back there or does he just like the grip the dirt gives him?

by OutHereInPA on Apr 25, 2008 11:44 PM MDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

IDK. I've been wondering the same thing

He writes a word in the dirt of the mound every time he pitches.

He doesn’t tell anybody what the word is, or even if it’s the same word every time.

English words?

Panamanian words?? what language?

He won't say.

The odds in the clubhouse are apparently on the words being in Spanish, but nobody knows for sure.
