Tulo on the bench tonite...

I do wonder how long this will last. I hope the games Barmes has sat out won’t affect his hot bat.

"From now on let's stop worrying about winning and losing, just go out and play and have fun. If you make an error forget it, if you strike out who cares. Just as long as you hustle."

Barmes is hitting .233 in his last ten games

so his pine time is irrellevant to his “hotness.”

Lincecum on the mound won’t help matters (for any of our guys), so maybe sitting Tulo here isn’t the worst thing either.

Wait Jeff Baker broke a blood vessel?

Tulo back IN the lineup

I heard that

They said he broke a blood vessel in his finger during warm-ups.

by malakian on Apr 29, 2008 7:54 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

This makes for a perfect baseball story

if tonight starts the return of Tulo. A freak injury (not good for Baker) leads to an unexpected start and a surprise breakout… This game has it’s share of quirks, and maybe for the benefit of Tulo, tonight will be one of those odd incidents.

Not trying to make light of Baker’s malady, though.

by David OhNo on Apr 29, 2008 7:55 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

I feel bad for Bake...

Maybe he was trying to do the symbolic dunking (see: my diary) for Tulo and ran into a rock.

Either that or a

base geyser malfunction during batting practice.

Darn bases.

Apparently that whole “opponent sensor” is experiencing some technical difficulties.

That one had me laughing for hours

Still laughing, actually.

Also, Tim Lincecum? 4 runs in 29 innings? Um, yikes.

Lol

Your diary was hilarious and I actually think we should try some of that stuff.

I told myself I would not come to the Row until the Rockies got a lead.

Hi, everyone. Figures that that lead came on a double play, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers.

We get a run

We're back to making the Giants looking like All-Stars

and Tulo limps and Todd drops throws. In other words, still screwed.

missed catch by Helton… This team refuses to do the little things right.

Atkins continues to be the only one

contributing to the success of the team. Nice catch, Atty.

Give Atkins

the damn extension that he’s earned; others with extensions already have not necessarily done so.

Or is Atty’s defense improved this year?

That makes perfect sense.

by rockhead on Apr 29, 2008 8:37 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

It's just you

he’s still in the bottom three in the National League starting third basemen in RZR. He still doesn’t make plays requiring average range. I think not making mistakes tends to get overrated in defense, when the sole focus should be on making outs.

I think the big difference is that he’s hitting extremely well, so subesquently, he’s seen as a better defender.

With Cook pitching

that’s exactly what this will be.

by David OhNo on Apr 29, 2008 8:42 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

...

Heh. That’s exactly what I was thinking. Being at the game, I had no idea that Baker had been injured, so I assumed he’d come in. Then when I saw Iannetta going to third and Atkins to 2nd, I was thinking, What on Earth is going on here? But then after Iannetta’s homerun and Atkins’ mostly solid defense at 2nd (including one really nice play late in the game), I decided Hurdle must have been psychic, at least for tonight.

by holly96 on Apr 30, 2008 12:50 AM MDT to parent up   0 recs

NEWSFLASH HURDLE!

Holliday was drafted as a 3B, why not move him to the infield and put Spilly in left?

Every day is a Holliday!

by free7694 on Apr 29, 2008 8:42 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Actually

A DL trip might be the best thing for Tulo’s head right now. We’ll miss him (maybe) for a couple weeks, but it might be better in the long run.

Every day is a Holliday!

This infield looks similar

to when I let my six-year-old cousin write my lineup in MLB ‘08: The Show.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 29, 2008 8:43 PM MDT   0 recs

Now this is the one game I actually want to see

If only for black comedy value. I mean, Iannetta at third? Atkins at second? I want to see this.

PLEASE DEAR GOD MAKE IT STOP!!!

by Silverblood on Apr 29, 2008 8:44 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Iannetta has NEVER played third base professionally.

Garrett Atkins has NEVER played second base in the Major Leagues and not AT ALL since his days at Single-A Modeso.

Black comedy, indeed.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 29, 2008 8:47 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

This is why

you carry more than four infielders on the 25-man roster. I suppose they could have just put Baker in at second…

Tulo hurt

And the season from hell continues.

Yorvit: Strike, strike, grounder.

PLEASE DEAR GOD MAKE IT STOP!!!

by Silverblood on Apr 29, 2008 8:49 PM MDT   0 recs

But...but...

Yorvit provides those INTANGIBLES. He’s got such great INSTINCT, and he makes his teammates BETTER. Bottom line: he provides STABILITY. AWESOME pick for the Rockies.

/Mel Kiper’d

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 29, 2008 8:50 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

All kidding aside

Torrealba’s starting intangibles have failed and it’s time for him to have a seat more often.

His role was to mentor the young Latin hurlers and bring them along. One has lost his job as the closer, another has been sent to AAA, a third is about to go to the bullpen…

It’s not that intangibles don’t exist, it’s that their contributions pale when held up against staggering tangible beneifts.

Iannetta’s providing offense we sorely need, and he really isn’t worse defensively.
