Game #28: Jimenez vs Sanchez
Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants, Apr 30, 2008 1:45 PM MDT
Let's hope the Atkins/Iannetta express continues today, and that Q gets over his jet lag fast.
Go Rockies!

The logistics of this
are mind-boggling. Herrera must have caught a red-eye from Nashville to San Francisco last night.

Around 8:30 CDT, I think
which is 6:30 PDT… hmm, now that I think of that it makes a little more sense.

Is this Sanchez guy a real prospect?
Because the last thing the giants need is another young stud pitchet
Not sure
But on the season, he now has 38 strikeouts in 29 innings, which is certainly worth something. He’s 25 years old, so he’s older than Cain and Lincecum.
27th round pick in the 04 draft
been a reliever the past two years. I’m going to go with a no
Minor league stats
scream prospect, though. 11.88 K/9 for his minor league career is pretty impressive.
Probably was a 27th-round pick because he played college ball at Ohio Dominican, a school I have never heard of.
He's actually kind of an enigma.
And a decent pitcher, but not close to the class of their other two guys.

excellent,
when he overthrows 96+ he is less effective i think. If he could just keep that gasser in his back pocket for special occasions it would do him well. Learning to be a pitcher and not just a thrower is his challenge this year.
It seems to be a challenge for a number of folks on the staff

There's the sac fly.
One batter too late. Next time ask for a three run homer. Than if it’s a batter too late, it still means we score.
Egregious error by Velez and blown call by Darling...
and Rox still can’t take advantage.
Iannetta
Still a better hitter than Yorvit.

Commenter-Wise
Not Rockies-wise, sorry for the ambiguity.

Iannetta is looking so sharp this year
He really needs to be in the lineup more often than once a week.
That's been the most maddening thing about Hurdle for me.
C I not only hits but has a great eye. The hitting might go away when he plays more, but the recognition of pitches (especially breaking pitches) is something that Yorvit just doesn’t have. And that’s huge in the eighth spot in terms of flipping the lineup. Unbelievable that he isn’t getting at least 2-3 starts, especially this far into the season when he’s still hitting in every spot start.
he really is
he is just a hard nosed ball player.
by cocainelips99 on Apr 30, 2008 3:11 PM MDT up reply actions
Command has been streaky as usual...
curveball has been very streaky. As usual, dominant when he’s hitting spots, hittable when he’s not. Homer (and only run) was on a hanging curve.
Not exceptionally,
He’s just being very effective with mixing speeds and locations but keeping things pretty much in the strikezone. It probably helps that we’re playing a weak Giants squad.
Have the AZ-Houston
game on behind me. They’re saying that it’s not time to panic in Denver, even with some injury issues. Also being said is the promising start by Clint Barmes. Interesting to hear other team’s announcers talk about us 0_o
Oh wow
I just got here and haven’t read up on any moves, but Herrera is playing? That’s so cool. How does he look? I mean, I can see his numbers at the plate, but does he look good? Overmatched? Does he look good in the uniform? Lol, I’m just excited.
Willy T
with two walks and a hit. That’s great to see. I’m really pulling for him to continue improving his game. At least until Dexter is around.
Okay Beardo...
right side of the infield or in the outfield here plz.
Getting in late here
How’d Ubaldo looked so far?
"Corpas ready, first pitch, checkswing roller...Tulowitzki has it, throws to first...BALLGAME! WORLD SERIES TIME IN COLORADO!"
And that's why I should preview
Should be “How’s” obviously.

Good enough
Not great but controlled enough, grinding out innings.
Stealing third
Willy T beat that throw by quite a bit.
Was he out at second?
Blech…there’s a certain way I want to win, and I’m not sure if getting a bunch of breaks like that (counting the apparently questionable Lincecum balk last night) is really the way. Not that I mind winning…

MATT. STOP.
FIRST. PITCH. SWINGING.
Fun Fact
Colorado is now negative 12 for 135 with runners in scoring position on the season.
I didn’t think it was possible either.
Insert clever and witty remark slash pun here!
I wouldn't have thought so either, but I've been watching all our games so far,
And the Rockies definitely deserve the Nobel prize for ineptitude when it matters.
They're just giving out the Nobel for anything these days.
Another Fun Fact (courtesy of David Letterman):
No word in the english language rhymes with brick.
Nobel's gone sort of commercial...
I had been hoping to win the lit prize someday, or maybe chemistry for my theory of peanut butter as relationship substitute, but now that I know the prize for ineptitude when it matters might be up for grabs in a few years, I think I’ll gun for that.
I was gonna say...
Sign me up for that one. If these guys didn’t have the lock on ineptitude this year I’d be all over it.
Like the peanut butter theory. Myself I’m into these cheesy pretzel things.
That's the...joke.
I have an oddball sense of humor, hence
some more classics from the Federal Bureau of Miscellaneous Information:
The first pair of binoculars had a 1x magnification.
Vacuum is the hardest word to spell.
freaking html
I was trying to do a less-than 3 and then “Letterman.”
Drew error
was mighty helpful. Pence hustled HARD to get to second. Doesn’t make up for his ridiculously lazy play on Salazar’s double a few innings back when he misread the play and THEN made little effort to tryr and catch the ball.

Did U-Ball do enough to keep his spot in the rotation?

i think so
2 runs? not bad, we should be up at least 4-2

for more or less...
who else we got? we could have a drawing before each home game to see which fan starts on that time through the rotation? that would put fans in the seats

by cocainelips99 on Apr 30, 2008 3:42 PM MDT up reply actions
He has the arm to do it
but his accurary has been very poor. Hitting the cut off man is one of the fundamentals of baseball, he needs to get that down.
"Corpas ready, first pitch, checkswing roller...Tulowitzki has it, throws to first...BALLGAME! WORLD SERIES TIME IN COLORADO!"

Nice play Garrett!
He can make the diving plays on occasion.
"Corpas ready, first pitch, checkswing roller...Tulowitzki has it, throws to first...BALLGAME! WORLD SERIES TIME IN COLORADO!"
Okay, we got out of it.
Not ideally, we missed a golden opportunity to score, and then let them tie it.
I think we need Spilly, Barmes and Iannetta to show the regulars how driving the runners in gets done.
It's still hard to fathom
that we only have two sac flies in a month of baseball.
"Corpas ready, first pitch, checkswing roller...Tulowitzki has it, throws to first...BALLGAME! WORLD SERIES TIME IN COLORADO!"
I'd just prefer we ranked higher than thirteenth in the NL in runs scored
No matter how we wind up doing it, we better be in the top five most months, or we’re talking about a massive fail on our part.
Why didn't that guy sign with us.
I mean really, what’s an education at Georgia Tech really worth when he could have been a Colorado Rockie?
Ugh
That’s not good.
"Corpas ready, first pitch, checkswing roller...Tulowitzki has it, throws to first...BALLGAME! WORLD SERIES TIME IN COLORADO!"
Pods walks
Let’s watch him run!
"Corpas ready, first pitch, checkswing roller...Tulowitzki has it, throws to first...BALLGAME! WORLD SERIES TIME IN COLORADO!"

Will then hit a two run home run, causing Purple Row to explode

Just got back from class.
What’s the story?
"Don't give up the ship!" - Capt. James Lawrence
Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
same old same old
Rockies get on, get into scoring position, get stranded. Bullpen enters with a lead, loses it.
Four straight balls from Wilson...
and he swings at the first pitch
How do you only
take one game from the Giants?
"Don't give up the ship!" - Capt. James Lawrence
Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
they have to go 5-2 on this 7 game home stand....have to
start something n gain some confidence back
Shawn Chacon
Chacon has started six games, pitched well enough to win them all, and has no decisions. That has to be annoying for him.
Hey Dbacks win again....awesome!
Astros hit a bunch of hard balls from Lyon in the 9th…..right….at….people…..
They have won 9 straight series…...
Fun Fact
The Braves are 0 – 8 in one run games and are tied 1 – 1 in the bottom of the 9th with Washington. They are the only team allowed to say they’ve had a more frustrating month than Colorado.
Insert clever and witty remark slash pun here!
Well there you have it
2008 season saved! And you guys were worried, Ha!
I'm actually surprised that Simons returned a major league player
He’s been doing well since he shifted to the pen, but still, a minor league reliever who’s probably not in our top ten among RHP relief arms makes it a nice pick-up, even if Grilli would have been on waivers later this week if the trade didn’t go through.
