Interesting to seee Herrera get the start, I figured it’d be Q

The logistics of this

are mind-boggling. Herrera must have caught a red-eye from Nashville to San Francisco last night.

by Tom (RFTN) on Apr 30, 2008 1:39 PM MDT up reply actions

Around 8:30 CDT, I think

which is 6:30 PDT… hmm, now that I think of that it makes a little more sense.

Jack just said

“tulo is on his way back to denver for further evaluation”...... TV guys saying anything more? no TV in the cubicle for me

by ColoroxWS07 on Apr 30, 2008 1:33 PM MDT reply actions

Troy will undergo a MRI in Denver. That’s about all they’ve said on TV.

Herrera

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is his MLB debut is it not?

you are correct

Herrera is making is major league debut today.

is not far off the league lead in strikeouts.

by Tom (RFTN) on Apr 30, 2008 1:52 PM MDT up reply actions

Prediction

SInce Sanchez has been unhittable lately, Herrera will get him self a K or 2

Is this Sanchez guy a real prospect?

Because the last thing the giants need is another young stud pitchet

by moomacher on Apr 30, 2008 1:54 PM MDT reply actions

Not sure

But on the season, he now has 38 strikeouts in 29 innings, which is certainly worth something. He’s 25 years old, so he’s older than Cain and Lincecum.

He's actually kind of an enigma.

And a decent pitcher, but not close to the class of their other two guys.

excellent,

when he overthrows 96+ he is less effective i think. If he could just keep that gasser in his back pocket for special occasions it would do him well. Learning to be a pitcher and not just a thrower is his challenge this year.

Ubaldo

looking good so far. Here’s to hoping the wheels don’t suddenly come off like they’ve done for him in previous outings.

by holly96 on Apr 30, 2008 2:52 PM MDT reply actions

I'll second that desire

Here’s also hoping we can somehow muster some run support the third time through the lineup.

by Rox Girl on Apr 30, 2008 2:53 PM MDT up reply actions

Ditto

Jimenez is so close. I don’t think going to AAA would help him (unlike Morales). He needs to work it out here.

by Rox Girl on Apr 30, 2008 3:09 PM MDT up reply actions

Todd's play

Just saw Todd’s diving play on Gameday. That was great. I love defense!

by holly96 on Apr 30, 2008 3:04 PM MDT reply actions

Iannetta is looking so sharp this year

He really needs to be in the lineup more often than once a week.

by Rox Girl on Apr 30, 2008 3:07 PM MDT up reply actions

That's been the most maddening thing about Hurdle for me.

C I not only hits but has a great eye. The hitting might go away when he plays more, but the recognition of pitches (especially breaking pitches) is something that Yorvit just doesn’t have. And that’s huge in the eighth spot in terms of flipping the lineup. Unbelievable that he isn’t getting at least 2-3 starts, especially this far into the season when he’s still hitting in every spot start.

by potterhead4 on Apr 30, 2008 3:10 PM MDT up reply actions

he really is

he is just a hard nosed ball player.

by cocainelips99 on Apr 30, 2008 3:11 PM MDT up reply actions

U-BALL TIME

lets go UBALL… got the lead. hit your spots. no need for a melt down now

by ColoroxWS07 on Apr 30, 2008 3:15 PM MDT reply actions

Command has been streaky as usual...

curveball has been very streaky. As usual, dominant when he’s hitting spots, hittable when he’s not. Homer (and only run) was on a hanging curve.

by potterhead4 on Apr 30, 2008 3:16 PM MDT up reply actions

pitch line

4.2 2 hits 1 Er and 1 BB 4 k’s… not too bad

by ColoroxWS07 on Apr 30, 2008 3:17 PM MDT up reply actions

Not exceptionally,

He’s just being very effective with mixing speeds and locations but keeping things pretty much in the strikezone. It probably helps that we’re playing a weak Giants squad.

by Rox Girl on Apr 30, 2008 3:17 PM MDT up reply actions

Have the AZ-Houston

game on behind me. They’re saying that it’s not time to panic in Denver, even with some injury issues. Also being said is the promising start by Clint Barmes. Interesting to hear other team’s announcers talk about us 0_o

by A.J. Haefele on Apr 30, 2008 3:18 PM MDT reply actions

Sanchez is hitting?

Bochy’s really considering leaving him in? I hope we take advantage of this.

by Rox Girl on Apr 30, 2008 3:18 PM MDT reply actions

Oh wow

I just got here and haven’t read up on any moves, but Herrera is playing? That’s so cool. How does he look? I mean, I can see his numbers at the plate, but does he look good? Overmatched? Does he look good in the uniform? Lol, I’m just excited.

by A.J. Haefele on Apr 30, 2008 3:21 PM MDT reply actions

Willy T

with two walks and a hit. That’s great to see. I’m really pulling for him to continue improving his game. At least until Dexter is around.

Blech…there’s a certain way I want to win, and I’m not sure if getting a bunch of breaks like that (counting the apparently questionable Lincecum balk last night) is really the way. Not that I mind winning…

I wouldn't have thought so either, but I've been watching all our games so far,

Nobel's gone sort of commercial...

I had been hoping to win the lit prize someday, or maybe chemistry for my theory of peanut butter as relationship substitute, but now that I know the prize for ineptitude when it matters might be up for grabs in a few years, I think I’ll gun for that.

Drew error

was mighty helpful. Pence hustled HARD to get to second. Doesn’t make up for his ridiculously lazy play on Salazar’s double a few innings back when he misread the play and THEN made little effort to tryr and catch the ball.

Did U-Ball do enough to keep his spot in the rotation?

Yes.

At the very least, you can say that.

i think so

2 runs? not bad, we should be up at least 4-2

Yes

At least. that’s what I think.

Every day is a Holliday!

for more or less...

who else we got? we could have a drawing before each home game to see which fan starts on that time through the rotation? that would put fans in the seats

Definately

Good start, our offense seems like it’s on the brink of breaking through. I think it will start to click here pretty soon

Taveras

cut off man. throw to the CUT OFF MAN. once again. no db possibility

by ColoroxWS07 on Apr 30, 2008 3:41 PM MDT reply actions

He has the arm to do it

but his accurary has been very poor. Hitting the cut off man is one of the fundamentals of baseball, he needs to get that down.

He can make the diving plays on occasion.

Okay, we got out of it.

Not ideally, we missed a golden opportunity to score, and then let them tie it.

I think we need Spilly, Barmes and Iannetta to show the regulars how driving the runners in gets done.

by Rox Girl on Apr 30, 2008 3:44 PM MDT reply actions

that was weird

Didn’t mean the blockquote there.

It's still hard to fathom

that we only have two sac flies in a month of baseball.

I'd just prefer we ranked higher than thirteenth in the NL in runs scored

No matter how we wind up doing it, we better be in the top five most months, or we’re talking about a massive fail on our part.

by Rox Girl on Apr 30, 2008 3:49 PM MDT up reply actions

Rookie?

I think jeff and jack are saying he was rookie then, after career in negro leagues

by ColoroxWS07 on Apr 30, 2008 3:48 PM MDT up reply actions

Why didn't that guy sign with us.

I mean really, what’s an education at Georgia Tech really worth when he could have been a Colorado Rockie?

Wishing

Could a UBALL go deep like that to TIE the game sometime?

Ha...

Maybe if I was pitching for the opposition and we were playing in a park about as big as my front yard.

same old same old

Shawn Chacon

Chacon has started six games, pitched well enough to win them all, and has no decisions. That has to be annoying for him.

The Braves are 0 – 8 in one run games and are tied 1 – 1 in the bottom of the 9th with Washington. They are the only team allowed to say they’ve had a more frustrating month than Colorado.

Trade(s)

The Rockies acquired Jason Grilli from Detroit

For a minor league reliever, Zach Simons.

Well there you have it

2008 season saved! And you guys were worried, Ha!

by RyanBuff on Apr 30, 2008 5:04 PM MDT up reply actions

I'm actually surprised that Simons returned a major league player

He’s been doing well since he shifted to the pen, but still, a minor league reliever who’s probably not in our top ten among RHP relief arms makes it a nice pick-up, even if Grilli would have been on waivers later this week if the trade didn’t go through.

by Rox Girl on Apr 30, 2008 5:14 PM MDT up reply actions

who is a diehard Tigers fan has been laughing at me all day about this trade.
