Game #5: Francis vs Webb

Arizona Diamondbacks at Colorado Rockies, Apr 5, 2008 6:05 PM MDT

Nothing like getting a fluffball pitcher like Brandon Webb to break us out of our slump. Please, oh please, hit against him like you did most of last season, guys.

This sure is up early

I thought it was a night game.

Night game

It is.

Made me do a double take as well.

Peavy vs Penny on Fox right now though.

I get

Braves vs. Mets.

by Tom (RFTN) on Apr 5, 2008 2:43 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

It was up early because I was having issues

trying to figure out how I messed up setting it for automatic posting, and I just wanted to make absolutely certain it would be up before game time. Luckily, it was, but as you point out, quite a bit earlier than normal.

Weather

Anyone know what the weather is going to be like tonight?

It should be really nice...

It's been sunny up in the mountains, at least (Thank god).

Really?

I thought it was still two hours...

I'm stoked because I just found out I get a free preview of MLB Extra Innings this week.

Until the game

I'm watching the Final Four game between Memphis and UCLA.

by Tom (RFTN) on Apr 5, 2008 4:02 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Peavy

with a CG two-hitter.

Meanwhile, it's horrible but watching the Detroit game is oddly comforting. Incredible line-up, but nothing but fail so far for the team as a whole.

by dogs on Apr 5, 2008 4:20 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Ugh

I'm always glad to see the Dodgers lose, but I think I'd rather see Peavy get knocked around.

Excellent

Now we just need Helton and Holliday back to their original places.

Ask your doctor if the Rockies are good for you. Are they generally? No. Do we stay? Of course. Why? Who built Stonehenge?

Holliday

Hit 6 balls into the upper deck in BP. He's a righty. Think about that.

If Webb's dumb enough to hit him with a pitch, he might hit a ball to Kansas.

Every day is a Holliday!

by free7694 on Apr 5, 2008 5:40 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Oh Webb

The first time Holliday is up there, please bean him. Make it sting.

(I think this is the first time I have ever rooted for one of my guys to be hit before).

I was always rooting for the kids that couldn't hit to get beaned.

I've never been involved with Little League

but yes. Actually... that's not quite true. If Holliday is less than his usual manbeastly self, I kind of root for some unsuspecting yahoo to bounce one off his treetrunk upper arm and see what happens next.

EJ Jr is much better of a hitter

by moomacher on Apr 5, 2008 7:29 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Really?

His outfield defense last year was one of the reasons we took a leap forward last year.

I'll agree he's flawed as a hitter, and miscast as a leadoff one, but that doesn't make him a poor fit for this ballpark.

by David OhNo on Apr 5, 2008 7:30 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mmm...

I don't know if I'd rate Willy's defense that highly (other than The Catch in NLCS Game 2, of course).

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 5, 2008 7:30 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

He's a statistically superior defender

than anyone we've had. The fact that he doesn't take as clean as routes or sometimes gets turned around doesn't take away from the fact he makes a ton of outs in center. Defense, especially outfield defense, isn't about beauty, it's about outs. The more you make on balls hit in your region, the better you are.

by David OhNo on Apr 5, 2008 7:33 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Last year

I saw Fuentes blow a save in Shea, Jimenez get rocked for like 10 runs at Coors from the Cubs, and then the ridiculous Game 2 in Philly and game three of the World Series.

by moomacher on Apr 5, 2008 8:03 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well

Yeah, but I thought it was sort of surreal that the world series was even there. So I'm not too disappointed. Me and about 4 NY guys from CO flew out for the game. We had a really good time.

Still baseball on twice a week on Ch5. Usually Yankees, Red Sox, Mets or Tigers, but it gets it's coverage from ESPN. Angels weren't covered that much last year but are this season if I remember correctly from the schedule. Still enjoy watching it, with the presenters.

Yeah, but...

...with the bases loaded, nobody out, and your team desperate for a big swing of the bat, what would YOU be thinking?

Of course, I guess that's why Atkins is a Major League hitter and we are not.

I'll take a bases-loaded walk here.

Brutal. Simply brutal.

Because anything can happen.

I did it Wednesday, and I'm about ready to do it again. This is nightmarish.

About as good as I feel, probably.

Actually, no. I am confident in saying that I feel much worse.

Is it just me, or did I feel WAY better the last time Byrnes grounded to Tulowitzki with two out (10-15-2007)?

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 5, 2008 9:02 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Probably thinking what I am.

This a really long season. We're still in spring, albeit late spring. Does this suck? Definitely. Could it be worse?

Eric hit a grand slam? No total way. It's bases loaded, 2 out -- his only options are to strike out or get thrown out.

Question:

How many games before we stop saying, "It's still early."

I say 9. If we don't pick it up by game 9, then we'll start talking about management issues and all that.

by dogs on Apr 5, 2008 9:03 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

I say 30 games.

A seemingly arbitrary number, but it's nice and round, and by then we've been in the season for several weeks.

Well, then

This is certainly shaping up to be the worst weekend in my adult life. Carolina gets smeared, Rockies look like a AA team playing the big boys. I wasted $150 on the lamest Opening Day ever, AND the thistle in my side yard is making a strong comeback, regardless of how much I'm pay TruGreen to kill it.

No happy camper here. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

For the moment, I'm left with no choice but to take the Scarlett O'Hara route: "Tomorrow is another day."

I hope.
