Game #7: Glavine vs. Cook

Atlanta @ Colorado

Alright, after getting those minor concerns off my chest this morning, I feel a lot better going into our game tonight against the Braves. My Rockies may have blown MONKEY CHUNKS over the weekend, and well, last week, but I've got a feeling the 2000 pound gorilla is over the flu bug and ready to start doing some whalloping. Let's start by pounding some Braves.

Go Rockies!!

Good luck!

Get all the runs out of your system the next three days please ;o)

I must ask

what makes you think we even HAVE any runs in our system?

Ask your doctor if the Rockies are good for you. Are they generally? No. Do we stay? Of course. Why? Who built Stonehenge?

Tonight will be the night

Our Rox breakout. No more lame celebrations, just baseball. I know because my dog just told me so. ;)

A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings. ~ Earl Wilson

I certainly hope

the Rockies get sick of all those disgusting MONKEY CHUNKS everywhere and decide to inflict a little revenge.

Namingly, by having the Braves blow some MONKEY CHUNKS for a change.

Ask your doctor if the Rockies are good for you. Are they generally? No. Do we stay? Of course. Why? Who built Stonehenge?

I got the feeling...

today was the day we started getting down to business. I think the lumber is about to start the season.

I'm blowing monkey chunks

You gotta be kidding me. I can't watch the game on MLB.TV because of blackout rules, and Fox Sports South isn't carrying the game so they can show... Best Damn Pride Fighting? What the hell is that? Whatever happened to all of the Braves games being on TBS? That's a damn bang-up move there.

by Tom (RFTN) on Apr 7, 2008 5:52 PM MDT   0 recs

What time does the game start?

(We are the only people I know who eagerly want to know what time our personal torture is scheduled to be inflicted. They could have used a few people like us in the French Revolution, it would have looked good for business).

Ask your doctor if the Rockies are good for you. Are they generally? No. Do we stay? Of course. Why? Who built Stonehenge?

by Silverblood on Apr 7, 2008 5:54 PM MDT   0 recs

8:35 ET

The blackout rules and Nashville cable are preventing me from watching the game anyway. Hello, national championship!

by Tom (RFTN) on Apr 7, 2008 5:58 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

I’ll be happy

If I never see the words "monkey chunks" again in my life.

Go team!

by kishi on Apr 7, 2008 6:26 PM MDT   0 recs

"Smack?"

Does that have something to do with offense? Can you give us a crash course? When they throw, we're supposed to hit them into the mitts, right, or just miss them entirely?

I know I have this backwards somehow....

Ask your doctor if the Rockies are good for you. Are they generally? No. Do we stay? Of course. Why? Who built Stonehenge?

by Silverblood on Apr 7, 2008 6:29 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Well, runs are an option, but if all else fails, you could catch them unawares in a dark hallway on their way from the locker room.

Either way, bats can be involved.

Prospect question...

Atlanta's Jordan Schaeffer or Colorado's Dexter Fowler? Which prospect Centerfielder do you think will end up being a better Major League player?

There's only one Rocktober!!

by Charlie77 on Apr 7, 2008 6:29 PM MDT   0 recs

Schaefer

I'm taking the disclaimer that I'll know more after seeing Dexter Fowler this week, but at this point, I think Schaefer gets more of the nod at this point. His power is more present, and I don't like that Fowler has not packed on much weight in his three years with the organization. Both have good patience and are suppose to be ballhawks, but Fowler's arm is said to be no more than average.

I think Fowler's ceiling is higher because of his speed and the possibilities within his frame, but sometimes guys just don't fill out and add the power everyone projects.

It's a good question and I don't think there's a wrong answer. Neither, however, is in the class of Rasmus-Maybin...yet.

Well good news, bad news...

The bad news is my radio station chose to play the NCAA Basketball game instead of the Rockies game-

The good news is my radio station chose not to play the rockies game. So now I should have plenty of time to finish my 3000 page paper on corporate mergers due this evening.

by David OhNo on Apr 7, 2008 6:49 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

It's been close

to a year since I read it, but from what I remember it was much better than Built to Win. Schuerholz admitted his mistakes over the years, if I recall correctly.

I liked Feeding the Monster

It gave a good look at how the Red Sox were built under Epstein while still showing all the warts.

by David OhNo on Apr 7, 2008 6:57 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

I know this is late

but why did Jim just say Escobar can flat out fly? He's never been a big base stealer, or steal attempter, his ratio isn't good, and less bias scouting reports have never praised his speed.

I hate when announcers spread baseball stereotypes...hmm, he's latin, he plays infield, he must be fast...

Do some homework!

apparent lack of speed so far than I am about the offense as a whole.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 7, 2008 6:46 PM MDT   0 recs

I'm wondering where he went too

Then again, we're having difficulty with a whole team full of impostors right now.

Just wait

You'll really start to tear your hair out when the talking heads start proclaiming the "sophomore slump", and every time Braun passes Tulo in AVG, they'll be proclaiming victory over all the Braun-for-ROY nay-sayers. I'm already dreading it.

by oo_nrb on Apr 7, 2008 6:48 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

And what it all comes down to is

World Series appearances: Tulo 1, Braun 0.

Ah, 1-2-3 inning for the Rox.

At least they're consistent.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 7, 2008 6:48 PM MDT   0 recs

Yup

We're terrible. Still. You have to wonder how far the bad juju can swing, but I am terrified this is some kind of massive karma correction for all our good luck last October, and we won't win a game until we're 1-21.

Clearly, I pray otherwise.

Ask your doctor if the Rockies are good for you. Are they generally? No. Do we stay? Of course. Why? Who built Stonehenge?

by Silverblood on Apr 7, 2008 6:51 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

My paternal grandfather grew up in St. Louis.

He was a lifelong Browns fan and kept following them after they moved to Baltimore and became the Orioles.

Until they started the 1982 season 0-21. Never again did he even seek out an O's box score.

I hope that doesn't happen to us.

by Tyler Boschert on Apr 7, 2008 6:52 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

8-pitch inning for Glavine

At this rate, we should reach our allotted 2-run quota sometime in the 15th.

I see no flaws with this logic.

Can't watch the game

but am following on Gameday. Did I just see a 5 pitch inning by Cookie fly by there?

by oo_nrb on Apr 7, 2008 6:53 PM MDT   0 recs

Which means

it's three first-pitch outs for us in the bottom of the inning, lest we make our own pitcher look good.

Ask your doctor if the Rockies are good for you. Are they generally? No. Do we stay? Of course. Why? Who built Stonehenge?

by Silverblood on Apr 7, 2008 6:54 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Not necessarily

We can have a foul ball in there somewhere, too. As long as we have 3 outs on less than 5 pitches. Run support...pfft, who needs it?

by oo_nrb on Apr 7, 2008 6:55 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Not Cookie.

He had a winning record last year despite having the third-worst RS in the NL.

That's a relief

That means that we might get to watch 3 extra innings tonight! Prolong the suffering, I always say.

Speaking of suffering, this is already harder to watch than the World Series by far, but I don't think we aren't quite up to last year's Road-Trip-That-Never-Happened levels yet.
