i still do not believe that rule.
She could have been awarded the base she had reached, taken out of the game and a pinch runner would have been allowed to finish the home run. This made for a much cooler story though.

Great story
I don’t get choked up often, but I almost got choked up when I read the story, and then just about got choked up again seeing it on ESPN.
FYI – ESPN talked to the supervisor of officials. The umps were actually wrong. The rule does allow a pinch runner to finish the homer. But that shouldn’t take anything away from a great story.
