Game #39: Francis vs. Johnson
Colorado Rockies @ Arizona Diamondbacks
RJ takes the mound after Sunday's weather conditions had the D'Backs move his start to after the off day. Time for Francis to get a win.

Silverblood's Fun Fact O' The Day:
Last year, we faced Randy Johnson on May 15, except it was at home, not in the Snake Bank. Jason Hirsh was pitching against him and gave up 3 runs in 8 innings. We got shut out, and lost 3-0 to drop our record to 16-23. In other words, we need a win tonight, but we will then still be 2 wins and 4 losses away from turnaround time. Right? I will gladly sacrifice a few losses against the Twins if we get all three of them against the Slytherins. Well, not gladly, but you know what I mean.

Baker really needs to show up sometime.
Since about two weeks into 2006, he’s been pretty much dead weight that the team drags around with it from place to place. I hope he breaks out of it and comes up with something big tonight.

Yeah
I’m pretty sure that September ‘06 had us thinking he was the second coming of Dante Bichette, but ever since then, he’s failed to justify the offensive hype. He’s a great, funny guy, and he has a great work ethic as evidenced by his hard work to learn 2B, but the bat hasn’t been there for quite a while.

Since his three hit game against the Dodgers last April,
He’s batting under .200 with an OPS well under .600. That’s the same sort of performance that had us rightfully up in arms over carrying Steve Finley or John Mabry. Baker’s become our new bench vacuum, unfortunately.
I just wish there was an easy way of getting rid of the likable guys that aren’t performing. And I really really hope I anti-jinx him tonight by bringing up how much of an out machine he’s been.

I can’t say I’m yet at the point where I wish last September never happened. But, seeing as how it’s insured Hurdle’s job for at least 3 years to come, the time may soon be approaching when I’ll wish that Tony Gwynn Jr. had just popped out.

think about this...
Phil Garner managed the Astros to the 2005 World Series, where they got swept by the Pale Hose. Since then, the Astros have been terrible. Garner just got canned last season.
SO, with that timetable in mind, if the Rockies suck from here on out, Hurdle will be fired halfway thru the 2009 season.

looking on the brighter side of things, francis had his first 1-2-3 inning and our hero bats first this time! Regarding everything else, I support any of the 3 candidates we would like for manager and also wonder what miracle CDI has to accomplish for playing time. CDI homered of off RJ this spring, in addition to everything else…

Willy
It’s not just about this AB (although it triggered this particular post) but isn’t it time we maybe thought about giving the CF job to someone else? Our leadoff hitter is now well in the .230s with an OBP that will soon dip below .300.
Enough already. Let Spilly and Pods take over out there.

Really? Dang....
We also somehow got the best hitting pitchers in the NL this year. Pwnings must’ve taken them all for BP during the offseason.

On a happier note....
You gotta like this Herrera kid, don’t you?
Slick in the field, nice stick and, to use one of Hurdle’s pet phrases, has a ‘slow heartbeat”. Doesn’t seem awed by the bigs at all.
He’ll be a nice every-dayer somewhere.

I was actually referring to why
Clint left Francis out there…I mean we had an off day yesterday, Francis isn’t fooling anyone but Byrnes, and its time to win some games.

Close, but, well, we know close doesn’t count. May actually have been out, though.
