Don't Give Up Yet...
I'm not going to sit here and tell you that all is great, that there are no problems, that we are right where we want to be. That would be naive.
But it seems that too many are giving up. Have we forgotten what this team has done in the past? Sure, things are ugly, but two of the last three NL Champs have been in approximately the same position as we are now in May. This is a long season and there is plenty of time for guys like Francis, Ubaldo, Hawpe, Todd, and Matty to figure things out and for the team at large to remember how to score and win.
In 2005, the Astros were (drumroll...) 15-25... Last year on May 21 we were 18-27...
Both of these teams turned out ok, you could say.
Also last year, the NY Yankees found themselves in a deep hole early. 13 and a half games out of first by May 30. They found a way to turn things around when they were being counted out and won the AL WC.
It blows my mind when I see people posting that they aren't going to be going to games, that the season is over, that all is lost and to trade away the team. Things are not over. I am not going to turn the other way. This is my favorite team playing my favorite sport and I'm sure as hell going to support them. I am not a fair weather, bandwagon jumping "win or I'll stop supporting you" mentality fan. For those that are... I hear that the MLS is a nice way to pass the summer...

I'm not giving up...
Not by any means. In fact, I was just about to write some nice poetic fanpost about using up karma and the backlash of a miracle and all sorts of stuff like that. I don’t think I will, but it just makes me so sad to watch this right now. It’s just HARD to care so much! So I do what I do, get involved in other stuff, and try to pretend that it’ll all be okay. It’s just tough to watch them…but I haven’t given up.

It is...
It is definitely tough to watch right now. I guess I just get miffed by people who have decided that they aren’t going to head out to the ballpark anymore, who decide that they will come on here and attempt to drag people down and not support the guys out there. Negativity breeds nothing buy more negativity. It is a snowball effect, just growing and growing. I don’t need that, the city of Denver doesn’t need that, and I guarantee you that the guys in the 1B side dugout at Coors don’t need that. We need to lift this team up, rather than trying to drive nails in their coffin.

yeah...
I’m (hoping) to go to a game this saturday (kind of depends on the weather) and you bet I’ll be cheering. I’m not planning to boycott, it just makes it tough to sit and watch them losing all the time when you KNOW they can be better.

I'm gonna support them
I will love the Rockies until I die. If they keep playing like this, it will be a lot sooner than scheduled. (Kidding?)
So what do I do? Not watch the games for now. I love them, but it hurts so badly, and I need to focus on the rest of my life which is not baseball. When/if they look better, I’ll watch. That doesn’t mean I ignore them or hate them. I just kind of have to pretend they don’t exist, since I love them so much and they suck so badly right now.
I’m still one of the insatiably optimistic people who think it’ll get better eventually, but that does not dissuade me from doing my fair share of pissing and moaning at the moment.

Realize there's got to be a two way street on this...
We give and give and give and then they don’t beat the Diamondbacks. Of course the Rockies are going to get the doghouse treatment when they do that. Bring us flowers, chocolates, the head of Stephen Drew on a plate, and don’t worry, it’ll all be warm and fuzzy again.
If you let them slide too much, they’ll just take advantage of you. Believe me, right now the moaning might seem negative, but in the long run it saves our relationship.

The perfect post
Amen, and hallelujah, sister!
And I want the head of Stephen Drew on that plate yesterday! Kidding, of course. Yeah, it’s a tad negative around the Row lately. But if I was giving up, I certainly wouldn’t be flailing away at the keyboard in the Game Threads. Keeps me sane while I’m waiting on that chocolate.

I should also add
that if the Rox are on TV, that’s what’s on my screen.

mine too...
And if I’m in, or even close to a town that they’re in, I’ll be at the stadium. It’s just that they’ve already used their free pass when it comes to avoiding my wrath right now. And yeah, chocolates. Don’t forget the chocolates, guys.

I support the Rockies 200%. 'giving up' is not in my dictonary
I love the Rockies with all my heart & soul and always will even when I die I’ll be cheering them on up in heaven, but with this slump they’re in is hurting me bad enough that I end up changing the channel if the other teams leading 6 to 0 or so, usualy they win if I don’t watch them on TV.
every time I’m at Coors Field I always cheer/root for the Rockies while working over at the Waze gate next to the Hill Yard Deli, I listen to the game on the radio cuzz they don’t have a TV or radio where I’m at & the radio’s outside Coors are to low for me to hear w/o having to leave my post to listen to it.

It's not a matter of "giving up".....
it’s a matter of “will the Rockies do something to grab our attention?” Right now, our collective attention span has been severely challenged by the poor quality of play. Lackluster hitting, inconsistent starting pitching, little in the way of clutch performances or dramatic come-from-behind finishes. These are the ingredients of fan apathy, not fan interest.
Fans don’t “give up”, by definition. However, fans do lose interest at a particular point in time if their team is not providing positive reinforcement for their devotion. One great and dreamy fall run to the World Series counts for a lot, but those memories will wear off quickly if this year’s first quarter of the season is indicative of what’s to come.
I already knew you wouldn’t give up. You’re a fan. So am I, and so are most others who lurk around this board. We haven’t “given up”, but we are rapidly finding other things to do…...that is, until the Rockies do something to draw us back.

I gave up on the Rockies seven times last year.
And I was only wrong once, and that was after Game 3 of the World Series. These are the first six just for the record:
After the Royals series in May
The Road Trip from Hell
The Lopez/Hirsh injuries
After the Marlins series in September
The loss to Webb that ended the 11-Game Winning Streak
The Middle of the 13th in the Tiebreaker

The toughest thing
is that after last year, I really felt like the franchise had turned the corner. For the first time since the 90’s, I went into a season with pretty high expectations. Last April/May weren’t as tough because the team was doing what it had before.
Last night, when we fell down 5-0 to the D-Backs, I turned off the game and played GTA 4. I would never do that last season, but I truly felt that there was no way the Rockies were going to win that game. It is getting harder to watch this team every day.
Thank god for baseball season.

Giving up?
I think the naive thing would be to give up on the Rockies. We know what this team is capable of and how it handled itself in situations like this one. The only time I would give up on the Rockies would be when it is sure thy didn’t make the playoffs, but then I would still have hope for next year.
