and we managed to get one run home. To be fair, we did have one of the worst hitting pitchers up in a key situation and were lucky to only have one out recorded. Willy just didn’t get it done there, and the argument could be made the neither did Baker, despite bringing one in. I won’t complain, though.

Iannetta really is kind of dreamy looking, isn’t he? As a guy, I’ve never taken the time to notice it before, but he has that look about him.

That was an unfortunate ending to a once-promising half-inning. Todd gets called out on strikes, Spilly draws a walk, and then Iannetta jumps aboard the failboat.

and I realize it’s a little early to be talking about it, but has there ever been a starting pitcher go hitless in a season? I’m also just making the mistake of assuming we’ll have U-Ball in the rotation and getting ABs every 5 days.

a slider on 2-2 was cool, but 3-2 I don’t like it. Hindsight, I suppose.

I do like this. Strikeouts are for boxscores. I’m much more interested in my pitcher (Yes, I have adopted U-Ball as mine) pitching efficiently and not wasting pitching trying to strike guys out. Ground balls are the way to go. Keep it up, kid.

Good grief. 8 hits, 2 walks and an E in 5 innings and only 2 runs scored, 1 on an infield grounder and another on a sac fly. I think that means avg. with RISP is zero for the day.

During Willy T’s last AB, Gamecast showed his overall season average at .236, but his average against left-handed pitchers to be .087 … before he grounded out.

Which means his average against right-handed pitchers must be very good. Maybe he should sit vs. lefties, play v. righties—opposite to “conventional wisdom.”

Who would have thought U-Ball’s first K of the game would come at the top of the 7th?

Oakland has 11 LOB and 9 runs on 11 hits and has drawn 4 walks, whereas the Rockies have 20 LOB and 2 runs on 8 hits with 4 drawn walks and a defensive error. Thought I’d point it out, despite the irrelevance.

come to the conclusion that this is not a very good team this year. This offense is the worst I can remember for an extended period of time and especially for an offense w/ reasonable talent. I am hoping for a positive ‘09, and we will probably see some action at the trading deadline this year. It might be good though, and I think it will allow for improvement next year.
