Game #48: Perez vs. Reynolds

New York @ Colorado

I always look forward to the series against the Mets, mostly because they're my "hometown" team. Anyway, this is the first of two series against the Mets at Coors Field before the two teams shift over to Shea Stadium in July. Greg Reynolds makes his third start, and I want it to be a good one.

Go Rockies!

Heavy right handed lineup...

Since left handers have a pretty ugly line to begin with against Perez this year, and we can only guess what that would do with Hawpe.

So much for Reynolds' terrible K rate...

I wonder in what way people will say he’s going to be a flop next will be.

Crap

I forgot about MLB blackout restrictions. I’m assuming the local (New York) broadcast is on cable. Oh well.

Cool

Still new to the area, so I had to look up what CW is (channel 11, I guess). Will be nice to see a couple of games on an actual TV screen the next two days.

This is almost like the lineup the Twins gave us in Francis' start

I guess Church is out with dizziness. It’s nice that teams are handicapping themselves like that.

Reynolds

Looking good tonight!

To those of you would know, how does he project? Could he really be this good?

Absolute ceiling would be somebody like Halladay

What we’ve seen so far tonight is what that would look like. Let’s see how he does the second time through the lineup, and the second time through the league when hitters know what to expect before getting too giddy, though.

by Rox Girl on May 23, 2008 7:44 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Thanks

Halladay gives me a point of reference anyway. That’s not a bad ceiling, BTW.

That was my original comment

but then I thought about missing it wide, and thought about who was pitching, and it seemed logical. But I do agree, it is HUGE.

Baker has no range

I think any of our other second basemen get Reyes there. That’s not an easy play, but Baker was a little slow getting there and flipping the ball.

Instant Replay

Did anyone watch FSN’s pregame discussion about Instant Replay and how it is important now that it has affected the New York teams?

Oh yeah..

Ringolsby was saying that the competition committee started to consider the replay on HR’s after the Yankees and Mets were both robbed of HR’s this year.

Oh, I originally misunderstood you.

I thought they were saying that the anchors were saying it only mattered because of the NY incidents, not just pointing out the not-so-coincidence. My bad.

by SlamDunkTheFunk on May 23, 2008 8:33 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

If MLB want's to speed up these games...

Instant Replay’s not the way to go, IMO

I think a lot of people are tired of seeing HR's getting taken away...

Seriously, a ground rule double is as exciting as watching the umpires huddle to decide if the ball went over the fence or not.

But getting HR calls right

would be nice. How many times do teams have to get jobbed out of runs because of stubbornness?

by SlamDunkTheFunk on May 23, 2008 8:42 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Sticky fly paper...

If they’re not going to institute replay then change the stadiums so that a HR is obviously a HR. Put up some sticky fly paper above the yellow. Or some kind of chalk line that marks the ball.

I have no idea why Hurdle sac bunts with the pitcher

when Taveras is our lead-off guy. He’s just not a run producer, at all. Better off letting the pitcher swing away unless it’s U-ball.

by Rox Girl on May 23, 2008 8:29 PM MDT   0 recs

Rockies lead the league in Sac Bunts...

Seems like maybe they’re sacrificing too many outs to get runners in scoring position. WillyT doesn’t help however, he should be hitting in the 8 hole.

There's only one Rocktober!!

by Charlie77 on May 23, 2008 8:31 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

True, but it it is set up this way,

The only runners on situation Willy’s decent at is with a runner at first, he’s got a .350 batting average over his career and is 5 for fifteen in that situation this year. Any other runners on situation and he’s gone 5 for 29 (.172) this season. By bunting the lead runner over, Hurdle’s completely eliminating a strength of his, which is poking the ball through the hole on the right side.

by Rox Girl on May 23, 2008 8:38 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Not gonna disagree

But who the heck (on this team) would lead off?
