Holy cow that is an ugly lineup
Atkins’ neck must be too stiff, but really, Baker? Over Stewart? Playing in the bandbox might help Stewart collect a few cheapies…
We're all going to die!
Moyer's a lefty, Stewart's a lefty, and ergo, Stewart must not hit him
Clearly that has to be the case, right? I mean it’s the case every time with every hitter in the history of the universe that left handed hitters don’t hit left handed pitchers right? I mean don’t bother to look up the numbers because I know that Clint Hurdle and I am right on this. And especially don’t bother to look up Stewart’s numbers against left-handers this year versus Baker’s or you might just get depressed.
Oh what the heck:
I’ll depress people, anyway:
Stewart (AAA) .304/.381/.589
Baker (MLB) .067/.158/.067
Yep, Jeff Baker hits southpaws about as well as Ubaldo Jimenez hits period.
I just saw that on my own accord
I did not want to see it again. AAAAAIEEEE!
We're all going to die!
Yeah, it could be a long night...
This one definitely smacks of Hurdle indigestion right now, but my guess is that Hurdle’s putting too much weight on what Baker did in game 3 of the NLDS.
Which, um
was after Moyer came out of the game. And besides, JDLR against the Phillies, in their park, after they scored 15 runs yesterday. It’s going to be a long night period.
We're all going to die!
But you see, Moyer...
started that game and who cares if Baker got his hit off of Romero, he’s obviously good mojo in Moyer starts. Actually, I think that hit has given Baker most of his leeway this season.
I'm almost certain
Baker rescued Hurdle’s dog from some unfortunate circumstance. Of course, there’s probably five or six players with that kind of inexplicable long leash.
Insert clever and witty remark slash pun here!
Yeah, but Philly's ballpark is so ridiculous
that even Baker could get some cheapies there.
Insert clever and witty remark slash pun here!
I've said it before....I'll say it again
Hurdle is an idiot and should be fired.
ugly, ugly line up.
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Spilly is our Clean up hitter?
wow. wow wow wow. We have no reason to win this game or any other. And knowing baseball….that means we could go on winning streak. Go Sky Sox!
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Think of it this way:
In Philly, we might cheat our way into five runs anyway. Of course, with JDLR giving up 10, this may only be scant comfort.
We're all going to die!
Nice prediction
You darn near hit it right on..
:)
I'm
watching Attack of the Clones right now. What’s more craptacular: the Rockies’ offensive output tonight or that movie?

The Rockies
At least AOTC had Jango Fett.
(See the gamethread for the first game against the Mets).
We're all going to die!
Jango's just
a cheap ripoff of Boba. Boba’s the real badass in the family.
"Nuts!" - Gen. Anthony McAuliffe
Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
Well
Since Boba’s a clone, isn’t he technically the cheap rip-off?
So which is a more badass way to die? Getting beheaded by Mace Windu or getting eaten by the Saarlaac?
We're all going to die!
Beheaded, for heaven's sake.
At least he didn’t just crash into something and get digested in some nasty tentacled thing.
www.notthisday.com ....coming September 26th and 27th at the Pinnacle Event Center, Denver.
Boba Fett didn't
die after falling into the Great Pit of Carkoon. Boba’s going strong 40+ years after the Battle of Yavin. Yeah, I’m going off on tangents tonight. . . .

I have that movie... still in plastic wrap...
Do you think in the future it might be a collector’s item?
It was a “gift” from a friend that I as of yet refuse to open.
Can Aaron Cook
pitch again tonight?
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Yes, seriously
Russ, can you get on that? You being the resident Star Wars nerd and all.
We're all going to die!
If we
want it done in a few days, all we need is a set of Spaarti Cylinders and some ysalimiri. Otherwise, I’ll get in contact with the Kaminoans and we’ll have one in five to 10 years.

Screaming Hot Liner Single To start the game!
well, it will look like that in the box anyway
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
I'm all for Atkins reclaiming third every day
but as long as Stewart is here, he should not sit behind Baker….
When do we get to pull the plug on the Jeff Baker experience anyway?
That's where my stand is...
He’s a 27 year old corner infielder who still isn’t hitting MLB pitching with enough frequency to be above replacement level. That’s pretty bad.
I could not agree more
Since Stewie is here, I want him playing. But Hurdle must have eaten a questionable cheesesteak today.
We're all going to die!
So should Francis
aspire to be like Moyer? Throwing barely 80 mph and getting away with it into your 60’s?
We're all going to die!
Beats aspiring to be Barry Zito
Throwing barely 85 and not getting away with it in your thirties. Although I guess Zito’s got the better bank account, so never mind.
Herrera
going after a wide pitch. K.
"Nuts!" - Gen. Anthony McAuliffe
Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
Three-pitch K for Herrera
Why am I not surprised. The general malaise must be infectious tonight.
We're all going to die!
Another question:
why does Baker hit ahead of Torrealba?
Because the intangibles he brings with that .216 BA
are irreplaceable. Silly.
We're all going to die!
Besides, don't the pitchers just LIKE him better...
and therefore pitch better?

I wish he could telepathically cause Yorvit

You never know...
He’s got Hurdle under his spell. You never know what other skillz he’s hiding.
www.notthisday.com ....coming September 26th and 27th at the Pinnacle Event Center, Denver.
He's supplying Hurdle
With pot. That also explains some of the decisions that Hurdle’s made.
Every day is a Holliday!
First pitch:
Yorvit grounds into a force out. I just love the veteran presence he brings!
Time for JDLR to give it back!
/pessimism
We're all going to die!
Not hit against the pitchers that Yorvit wouldn't have hit against, either.
Iannetta gets put in against Brett Mayne, Yorvit gets Moyer and Vargas, obviously the catchers are given an equal shot right now.
So...
Spilly’s channeling the Fetts, so who’s Yorvit channeling? I was going to say one of those podracers in the Phantom Menace who crashes early in the race, but maybe that’s not entirely fair.

Well then, it's all good...
I thought he was from the Dominican, now that I know he’s not, go for it.
Well, I don't really give a hoot about PC

3 out of 15 in the third,
4 out of 15 in the fourth.

So the Phillies have 75 homers this year
The Rockies have 36…
that got cut off
The funny thing is that the Coors field park factor for home runs is currently the best in the league because of the small sample size.
I am sure
that quite a bit of it comes from playing in a park where anything over the outfielder’s head is a homer?

For Walt. Vinny , (love the guy, and I mean it) I’m not so sure about as manager. But, whaddo I know?

At least...
we all knew this was coming, right?
www.notthisday.com ....coming September 26th and 27th at the Pinnacle Event Center, Denver.
And will this make anyone in management angry?
No. Of course not. They’ll just tell us that it’s a long season and we’re still working on straightening out the bumps.
We're all going to die!
Well....
We do have the talent, and we’ll just sit around and wait until the pitching sorts out ass from teakettle and then we’ll be all good. Why would they be angry? Aren’t we still developing players like we love to do? I always love watching players develop.
www.notthisday.com ....coming September 26th and 27th at the Pinnacle Event Center, Denver.
It's much more fun than watching developed players win...
We did that last season and it was kind of scary. This season we’re going back to our safe spot.
I seem to remember
management telling us that they were committed to building a year-in/year-out contender. Perhaps they didn’t realize that year-in/year-out contenders have decent pitching. I take into account the state of our novella length DL, but the pitching situation happened way before that became a problem, starting in ST.

Great success
We only give up one run to Utley! But that’s not possible! He’s left handed! So is Newman!

I was right
20.
And you know what? It wasn’t entirely unexpected. Fine way to start off the road trip. Just fine.
We're all going to die!
So,
When the Baseball Gods gave us last September, I thought sure it was in payment for all the suffering we had endured since 1995.
But, alas, it appears it that they are only now taking payment for whatever Faustian bargain the Rockies front office must have made for the NL Championship.
To paraphrase the great Clubber Lang, my prediction for the rest of this season?
Pain.
Guess I'll have to go with
TripleA vs. Major League to compartmentalize this one. Still, we need some serious pitching help. And I’m not talking about Micha Bowie (or whatever his name is.)

JDLR
despite his ineptitude, only gave up seven. Our illustrious pen (Arias, Newman, not surprising) was responsible for the other 13.
And will anyone in the front office get mad about tonight? Use it as the basis for a rant? NO!
We're all going to die!
Who's going to rant?
One Monfort is praying for deliverance, the other is probably trying to, well, you know. Dan O’Dowd is likely just going to blame the payroll constraints. And the DL.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings. ~ Earl Wilson
Clint's response:
"You’ve still got to play the game," Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said. "Guys are getting opportunities to play. We’re a no-excuse ballclub. We’ve just got to find a way to get things done."
honestly just kill me now.
Can we make a murder/suicide pact?
ABSOLUTELY kidding, of course. It’s just that the quote is exactly what I would have expected from Hurdle, and as usual, a complete waste of breath.

Rox & Yanks are sucking this year...
my only bright spot in ‘08 is the Chicago Cubs.
as for the 20 to 5 loss, I’m not surprised, the Rox lossed to the Cubs 27 to 10 one time years ago like 1996/98 or so. If the Phills got 7 more runs it would’ve matched the Cubbies score.
