Holy cow that is an ugly lineup

Atkins’ neck must be too stiff, but really, Baker? Over Stewart? Playing in the bandbox might help Stewart collect a few cheapies…

We're all going to die!

by Silverblood on May 26, 2008 4:38 PM MDT reply actions

Moyer's a lefty, Stewart's a lefty, and ergo, Stewart must not hit him

Clearly that has to be the case, right? I mean it’s the case every time with every hitter in the history of the universe that left handed hitters don’t hit left handed pitchers right? I mean don’t bother to look up the numbers because I know that Clint Hurdle and I am right on this. And especially don’t bother to look up Stewart’s numbers against left-handers this year versus Baker’s or you might just get depressed.

by Rox Girl on May 26, 2008 4:46 PM MDT up reply actions

Oh what the heck:

I’ll depress people, anyway:

Stewart (AAA) .304/.381/.589
Baker (MLB) .067/.158/.067

Yep, Jeff Baker hits southpaws about as well as Ubaldo Jimenez hits period.

by Rox Girl on May 26, 2008 4:52 PM MDT up reply actions

I just saw that on my own accord

I did not want to see it again. AAAAAIEEEE!

We're all going to die!

by Silverblood on May 26, 2008 4:54 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah, it could be a long night...

This one definitely smacks of Hurdle indigestion right now, but my guess is that Hurdle’s putting too much weight on what Baker did in game 3 of the NLDS.

by Rox Girl on May 26, 2008 4:57 PM MDT up reply actions

Which, um

was after Moyer came out of the game. And besides, JDLR against the Phillies, in their park, after they scored 15 runs yesterday. It’s going to be a long night period.

We're all going to die!

by Silverblood on May 26, 2008 4:58 PM MDT up reply actions

But you see, Moyer...

started that game and who cares if Baker got his hit off of Romero, he’s obviously good mojo in Moyer starts. Actually, I think that hit has given Baker most of his leeway this season.

by Rox Girl on May 26, 2008 5:02 PM MDT up reply actions

I'm almost certain

Baker rescued Hurdle’s dog from some unfortunate circumstance. Of course, there’s probably five or six players with that kind of inexplicable long leash.

Yeah, but Philly's ballpark is so ridiculous

that even Baker could get some cheapies there.

I've said it before....I'll say it again

Hurdle is an idiot and should be fired.

ugly, ugly line up.

wow. wow wow wow. We have no reason to win this game or any other. And knowing baseball….that means we could go on winning streak. Go Sky Sox!

Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!

by Redhawk on May 26, 2008 5:02 PM MDT up reply actions

Think of it this way:

In Philly, we might cheat our way into five runs anyway. Of course, with JDLR giving up 10, this may only be scant comfort.

We're all going to die!

When do we get to pull the plug on the Jeff Baker experience anyway?

by David OhNo on May 26, 2008 5:11 PM MDT reply actions

That's where my stand is...

He’s a 27 year old corner infielder who still isn’t hitting MLB pitching with enough frequency to be above replacement level. That’s pretty bad.

And will this make anyone in management angry?

No. Of course not. They’ll just tell us that it’s a long season and we’re still working on straightening out the bumps.

by Silverblood on May 26, 2008 7:23 PM MDT reply actions

Well....

We do have the talent, and we’ll just sit around and wait until the pitching sorts out ass from teakettle and then we’ll be all good. Why would they be angry? Aren’t we still developing players like we love to do? I always love watching players develop.

It's much more fun than watching developed players win...

We did that last season and it was kind of scary. This season we’re going back to our safe spot.

I seem to remember

management telling us that they were committed to building a year-in/year-out contender. Perhaps they didn’t realize that year-in/year-out contenders have decent pitching. I take into account the state of our novella length DL, but the pitching situation happened way before that became a problem, starting in ST.

So,

When the Baseball Gods gave us last September, I thought sure it was in payment for all the suffering we had endured since 1995.

But, alas, it appears it that they are only now taking payment for whatever Faustian bargain the Rockies front office must have made for the NL Championship.

To paraphrase the great Clubber Lang, my prediction for the rest of this season?

Pain.

Guess I'll have to go with

TripleA vs. Major League to compartmentalize this one. Still, we need some serious pitching help. And I’m not talking about Micha Bowie (or whatever his name is.)

despite his ineptitude, only gave up seven. Our illustrious pen (Arias, Newman, not surprising) was responsible for the other 13.

And will anyone in the front office get mad about tonight? Use it as the basis for a rant? NO!

Whenever I see this guy I can only think “we gave up Ramon Ramirez for him”

Who's going to rant?

One Monfort is praying for deliverance, the other is probably trying to, well, you know. Dan O’Dowd is likely just going to blame the payroll constraints. And the DL.

Rox & Yanks are sucking this year...

my only bright spot in ‘08 is the Chicago Cubs.

as for the 20 to 5 loss, I’m not surprised, the Rox lossed to the Cubs 27 to 10 one time years ago like 1996/98 or so. If the Phills got 7 more runs it would’ve matched the Cubbies score.

"Are you crying? Are you crying? ARE YOU CRYING? There's no crying! THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!" --Jimmy Dougan (Tom Hanks) "A League of Their Own"

even though they're gone I'm still a fan of Kaz Matsui, Jamey Carroll, Josh Fogg & Jeremy Affeldt
