The lineup could seriously be worse...

But the 7-8-9-1 combo is enough to make Jabba the Hutt run in terror. Torre, Q, Jimenez, and Willy.

www.notthisday.com ....coming September 26th and 27th at the Pinnacle Event Center, Denver.

Jabba the Hutt can't run very well

Maybe if you had Han and Lando with some stun guns, or just Leia with a chain.

Seriously

What do you have to lose? If CDI does nothing, it’s just like having Yorvit there anyway. If he does, then voila! But will this ever happen? No. Hurdle must have some incriminating pictures of young Iannetta or something….

We're all going to die!

by Silverblood on May 27, 2008 4:26 PM MDT up reply actions

What kills me the most

more even than Yorvits .220 batting average, is that Hurdle and Apodaca think he is like the greatest defensive catcher and pitcher handler of all time.

Stew at second!

That alone might make this game intriguing to watch. I hope he shows something tonight.

I've long thought Taveras

should be fined for every called strike he takes unless it’s 3-0, 3-1 or 2-0. He takes far too many good pitches.

Can someone

tell Kendrick that he’s been traded to a Japanese team during the game and that he needs to leave the game right then?

Wow

I spent the weekend in New England, desperately resisting the urge to punch anyone wearing Red Sox gear (which is, like, 90% of the population). I get off a 6.5 hour plane ride to see the 20-5 showing last night, and chime in here for a sweet 4-0 hole. We’re just rollin’ along, eh?

by Teekalong on May 27, 2008 5:35 PM MDT reply actions

This makes me regret being such a

by moomacher on May 27, 2008 5:38 PM MDT up reply actions

I'm a big believer

in the karma theory. That’s how I can deal with this season so far. I was at a wedding this weekend, many Rockies fans in attendance and mostly we talked about last year…and just kind of rolled our eyes at this one. And now we’re paying for the good times.

Of course, all my Dodger fan friends try to tell me that its just because we don’t have many good players, and the ones we do have are hurt or underperforming…that can’t be it, right? Karma. Must be.

by Teekalong on May 27, 2008 5:42 PM MDT up reply actions

Underperforming players?

Two little words to drop in their ears. Andruw Jones.

We're all going to die!

by Silverblood on May 27, 2008 5:43 PM MDT up reply actions

That's actually

very funny out here. The flip flop on Juan Pierre has been about as big as anything I’ve ever seen. This offseason, you couldn’t find ONE Dodger fan or media guy who thought Pierre should play an inning—the prevailing wisdom was just to trade him for nothing and eat his salary, just to keep Torre from playing him. Now, everybody loves him and Jones is more hated than any local athlete I’ve seen here in 6 years. Careful what you wish for, I guess….

Hey Russ and Rox Girl

obviously I don’t want to suggest work for you guys, but have either of you ever approached O’Dowd or anyone in the front office about doing an interview with the Row? I saw Billy Beane gave an interview to the SB Nation A’s blog.

by moomacher on May 27, 2008 5:53 PM MDT reply actions

Beane

and Blez are likethis (well, sort of). In a sense Beane helped launched SBN. As to approaching O’Dowd or anyone in the FO, I wouldn’t know where to start.

I've got to admit that it's probably more possible with us

Than a lot of other SBN blogs, as I know Rockies FO people read the Row, but I’ve also got to admit that a huge hangup in making it happen are massive neurotic phobias I have with interacting with people in real life.

by Russ Oates on May 27, 2008 5:57 PM MDT reply actions

Question

Okay, I know that the Rockies aren’t playing well and have had some bad pitching performances. But looking at the Phillies, they’ve been doing this to practically everyone they’ve faced of late (and their ballpark doesn’t hurt, either). So how much of this is bad pitching and how much of it is just plain hot hitting? I have to think it’s at least a little of both, but where would you put the percentages?

I’m not trying to be facetious or anything, I’m honestly curious.

by holly96 on May 27, 2008 5:58 PM MDT reply actions

60-40 bad pitching with the advantage.

But I might be underestimating just how en fuego Philadelphia really is.

by Rox Girl on May 27, 2008 6:01 PM MDT up reply actions

Thanks

That’s actually a little better than I was imagining, but it might just be residual trauma from yesterday.

I think I’ve decided that this is a lot easier to take if I just assume that Philly is an unstoppable force that cannot be stopped. Even if I’m deluding myself, at least I feel better.

by holly96 on May 27, 2008 6:10 PM MDT up reply actions

Yesterday was probably even more bad pitching...

But I just think that fed into the Phils’ already expanding confidence levels.

by Rox Girl on May 27, 2008 6:13 PM MDT up reply actions

by free7694 on May 27, 2008 6:03 PM MDT up reply actions

If they are

they need to start losing in bunches…

The number one overall prospect next year, Stephen Strasburg of SDSU, is what you call a “franchise changer.”

All you need to know about him: 23 K’s in one start against Utah.

He is why I believe San Diego is intentionally tanking it.

by David OhNo on May 27, 2008 6:07 PM MDT up reply actions

I think that's a little too far,

But the Padres, as with any team, certainly wouldn’t mind getting Strasburg. It certainly looks at this point that he’s going to be somewhere in the NL West. And that’s pretty scary if it’s not with us.

The Rockies are no longer a good team playing badly. They’re now clearly a bad team playing the way bad teams are supposed to do.

And what galls me—we never had the chance to do at least one victory lap around the NL with the respect of being NL Champs. Now, in the eyes of the baseball world, the Rox are just the flukes who went back to being a crappy team.

I'm not certain how much a pitching coach means

to the success of a pitching staff, but we do know this:

-Morales has been ruined by mechanics adjustments that have yet to be repaired

-Francis has stunningly gone into mechanics crisis

-Jimenez has failed to carry gains from one game to the next

-Corpas stunningly lost bite on his pitches, and had mechanics issues

-Cook’s success has been attributed to health and a pitch he learned from Fogg.

-No number five project has panned out, struggling with command, walks.

That makes three key pitchers that have taken huge steps backwards mechanically, two possibly beyond repair. After an embarrassing Philly series, shouldn’t it be time to see if another voice might work with this staff?

I’ve been pretty reserved in my criticism of this staff, and have actually defended Hurdle to a degree this season. That said…

...it’s time to fire Apodaca

I agree, and

Carney Lansford should have been giving the hitting coach position, but I’m not ready to lay any blame on Cockrell. I think the hitting woes are a bit flukey.

Pitching isn’t the culprit either, but I have big problems when promising pitchers go backwards mechancially.
