Alternate Rockies news

I participate in a simulation baseball league (fake players, the computer simulates the games, player development, etc).  There are 32 people in the league (we have expanded to Vegas and Indy), spread widely across the US and Canada - literally from sea to shining sea.

I spent 1.5 years as the Braves (somebody left and there was an opening, so I jumped in).  Then the Rockies became available and I immediately jumped ship - in the middle of the season.

Under my leadership, the Rockies quickly righted a meandering ship and made the playoffs in 2028 and 2031 and narrowly missed in 2030 (lost a tiebreaker) and 2032 (missed by 1 game).  We're currently in the midst of the 2033 season (we play 5-6 seasons in a calendar year).  We're 3.5 games back of the front running Dodgers.  We have a shot, but our ace (Travis Wolf) just went down with an injury and will be out for a couple of months.

Last night was the draft.  I submitted several Rockies related names to the commish.  Roy Tulowitzki, a good hitting, slick fielding SS, went #1 overall to the Yankees.  SP Maury Wimberly went #19 to my Rockies.  RF Jackson Holliday went #26 to the Devil Rays.  SP Lane Lindsay went to Cleveland at #34.  Rory Wimberly (twin of Maury) went to my Rockies at #41.  I actually didn't "reach" for the Wimberlys - they were simply the best available value.

We also picked up SS Brandon Mullins at #20.  He's a great contact hitter with decent pop.  He will likely be shifted to 2B to replace to aging OBP machine Jamie Caboe.

Just thought some folks might like some positive Rockies news :)

Wolf

I don’t think so – I think it’s just a random name.

There are quite a few “bloodlines” players in the league, though. The first baseman for the Rockies is Nikolai Bonds. Bonds has led the league in OPS in each of the past two years, and was the MVP last year.

BBM

Mogul 2004. We don’t have access to the peaks or anything. The commish has added a lot of things to the league. You don’t even need Mogul to play.

I joined about 2.5 years ago. I took over a dreadful team and turned it around pretty quickly (on pace for my 16th consecutive season with 80+ wins).

The commish also scaled down Coors a bit. It’s still a very good hitter’s park, though.

OOTP

I’m playing 3 leagues, one where I run a very successful Mets team, one where I’ve run the Rockies into the ground, another where the Rockies are absolutely STACKED (traded Ian Stewart for Derek Lowe and Jeff Kent, bounced Kent off somewhere, and Lowe turned out to be the studliest pitcher Coors has ever seen. Cook, Hirsh, Morales, and Lowe are awesome, Reynolds is good but not playing to talent, Baldo is in the bullpen just waiting for someone to get hurt so he can take over a rotation spot, Fuentes, Corpas, Ramon Ramirez, and Casey Weathers are holding down the bullpen. Koshansky at 1B – Helton traded due to financial constraints – Daniel Mayora at 2B, Tulo at SS, Atkins at 3B, Holliday, Seth Smith, and Andrew McCutchen – traded Fowler and a pitcher for him – are manning the outfield, Iannetta catching and I’ve made a decent bid on Yadier Molina in the FA market) but they’ve all been horribly underperforming. Also, the Dbacks are quite awesome.
