My first suggestion to SB Nation v 3.0 would be allowing some form of longer game threads. Maybe nest the first 200 comments or something.

Fuentes
will the manager ever put him in during a tie game, maybe to get a W?
Why?
We have Bucky and does Fuentes need a W or something…? As long as it’s not Grilli.
We're all going to die!
just curious
guys like Paplebon, Lidge are put in those situations i was just curious if fuentes was like that as well
Let's

Could've been much worse
This team needs to step up, show some pride and get a job done tonight. Win a damn ballgame where Cook doesn’t pitch for once.
I just got kicked off the television set...
Because The Bachelor is starting. So I thought I would listen to the game with my friends.

The Bachelor??
You’re letting yourself lose the television set for an (admittedly south-heading game) for The Bachelor??

Update on Nix.....
.....went 1 for 5 tonight with the Sky Sox. Still struggling, he’s just managed 4 hits in his last 20 AB with 7 strikeouts. Damn, I really like that guy; might have to look at Dexter Fowler as my new favorite up-and-commer (still like Koshansky but that poor guy had the misfortune of playing 1B in the Rockies farm system).
The Cardinals can't keep doing this, can they?
They’ve got AAAron Miles, Ryan, Ludwick, Skippy, Barton - all young players who were question marks to start the season - hitting around .300 or over & coming up with big hits.
Every washep up pitcher they get (Kip Wells excepted) turns into Cy Young. 2 relievers convert to top starters.
Sooner or later, the law of averages caches up with them, you’d think.

I don’t think Hurdle should have hit Torrealba in the 8th, right handed or not, coming into the game or not, he is still hitting .240 and is a GIDP magnet. Spilly wasn’t at 2nd at that point. He did get out on a bad call, but wouldn’t you think you might want to hit Jeff Baker or Clint Barmes at that point perhaps? I also felt like it was hard getting no hit in the one hole tonite, even though Pods usually hits consistantly, it hurt us.
And definately the only thing keeping me going is that EB pic and the fact that the Phillies are taking care of the Diamondbacks.

Squeaky and I have a thought for the night:
Hurdle is a great manager for when things are going well and the team is performing. He can sit back, provide moral support, basically make his regular choices and actually have them work. But when things are going poorly, he does the exact same thing, and expects things to eventually straighten out. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t, and Hurdle is too much of a “nice guy” to get in their faces and actually show some leadership about correcting the problem NOW, instead of waiting for itself to work out. When the team hits the skids, as they tend to do a lot, no wonder it takes us so long to right the ship—the manager has no problem with the current level of play, of course it’ll work out.
Hey Hurdle, if you’re so patient at waiting for things to fix themselves, why don’t you advocate a little patience on the hitting….?
Bah.
We're all going to die!
+1
I totally concur with you and Squeaky. About all the Hurdle stuff including the hitters being more patient. Iannetta played well tonight as we predicted with 3 hits. It was only after he went out that things started really going haywire which supports the idea of him being good and a good luck charm. Not that everything was Yorvit’s fault, I know it wasn’t, but still…God I hate Albert Pujols with every fiber of my being, stupid little league play. I guess he has been watching my Little Big League DVD to use against us.That is something we should try, since things here have become so bleak…at least there is still Eric Byrnes and a little thank you to the phillies is in order.

Thought for the night:
I just saw Silverblood post it, but I’ll reiterate: I know this particular loss is on the shoulders of many people – Bucky giving up the run, Herrera not going home (quite the brain fart, there), couple wasted opportunites – but I would REALLY like to see some leadership from SOMEONE, because I am NOT seeing it from Hurdle. There is no urgency, just “be patient, it will get better.” With this attitude, the Rockies will be struggling all season long. Hurdle is in charge of the team and it’s his responsibility to create a winning attitude, which he doesn’t. He’s a great manager for when the team’s doing well, don’t get me wrong. He makes the right choices then and he keeps them just grounded enough so they don’t get too high and get sloppy. But when it’s not, there’s no creation of the winning attitude, but almost an acceptance of mediocrity. What this team needs right now is a strong leader to stand up and get these guys back on track.
It should tell you something that a team with this much talent is doing so badly.

I've said all along
Replace Barney’s love child with a T-Rex or Velociraptor and all things will get better. Does anybody on Blake Street listen??? Noooooooooooooooooooooooo.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings. ~ Earl Wilson
Since the Rockies like to promote from within, lets bring up this guy:

2nd base....anyone? Who hasn't played there yet? Holliday @ 2nd...Spillbourghs in LF
Or this guy
just cause this may be the WORST stuffed mascot in the history of stuffed mascots…worse then Dinger:
2nd base....anyone? Who hasn't played there yet? Holliday @ 2nd...Spillbourghs in LF
Is that a chipmunk?
Or a mule deer? Or a genetically engineered cross?
www.notthisday.com ....coming September 26th and 27th at the Pinnacle Event Center, Denver.
It's Sox the Fox!
the 2nd one is Wally the Walnut.
I can’t make this stuff up folks.
Be sure to try the veal, tip your wait staff
2nd base....anyone? Who hasn't played there yet? Holliday @ 2nd...Spillbourghs in LF
Not hitting with RISP is part of the problem...
But the biggest problem is the breakdown in rotation and bullpen. O’Dowd invested and banked on young guys like Morales, Uball, Corpas, Hirsch to come through this year and has been horribly betrayed. The young pitchers are just not holding up their part of the bargain. Tulo hasn’t helped either, but he has a cool commercial so I’ll let him slide.
There's only one Rocktober!!
I know.
I’m not putting the blame on Hurdle for the young pitchers lack of performance. I am putting the blame on him for the overall attitude of wait around, it will get better. I don’t advocate big trades because I think we do have the talent necessary. I just don’t think there’s the right leadership in place to make it all click. I hope you get the difference there. Of course, everyone could be playing way better, but now that we ARE struggling so badly, we really need the leader to get the attitude to where it should be.
www.notthisday.com ....coming September 26th and 27th at the Pinnacle Event Center, Denver.
Just got back from the game and
Hurdle made his absolute worst-ever decision by hitting Torrealba in the 8th. I should say we have an ample supply of Clint’s worst strategic moves to consider, but tonight he used his WORST clutch hitter in the most critical at-bat of the game. How? Why?
True story: I was at the game with an out-of-town friend who knows baseball very well, but is not all that conversant with the Rockies. As soon as I saw that Hurdle actually was going to hit Torrealba for Posednik, I said one of three things is going to happen: infield pop fly, ground ball double play or strikeout. I’m no genius, but if you see these guys enough you have an idea what to expect on a regular basis. Or at least you should.
What on earth was Hurdle thinking? He hit for Podsednik, then let Quintanilla bat against a lefty. Which of these players—Pods, Omar or Torrealba—was the best bet to
get the go-ahead run in? This is child’s play, and our manager failed utterly.
I know I’m not alone in wanting to see much more of Iannetta and much less of the presumed regular catcher.
Brutal loss
I was also at the game, and I concur entirely on the Torrealba pinch hit assignment. Crazy. In Podsednik you have a contact guy who is near impossible to double up. In short the perfect hitter in that situation. Torrealba was doomed from the moment he stepped in.
It’s interesting seeing the comments about Herrera on that play. perhaps TV brought a different light on it, but from my viewpoint (the left field pavillion) the kid did nothing wrong on that play. When he fielded it, Pujols was just reaching 3rd and it didn’t seem obvious that he was heading home. Herrara had to rush to get that out at first. Had he thrown the ball home and Pujols wasn’t heading there, he would have been crucified for not getting the key second out of the inning. Again, I saw it live and haven’t seena replay, but no one at the park (that I heard) saw anything out of line with going to first on the play.
HURDLE IS AN IDOIOT
AND A DISGRACE TO BASEBALL. pods was the perfect guy to hit in that time, he is a 10 year vet and impossible to double up, decent pop and a great history of hitting clutch. yorvit is a 250 hitter decent clutch and easy to double up. hurdle wanted to get the left on left matchup out. but then the classic idoit, after a predictable strikeout, lets a career 190 LEFT handed hitter with 10 at bats in the season hit. STUPID. that is a mistake a AA manager makes. and dont give me the BS line that he needs to devlop here. thats what triple a is for.
baseball fans around the league mock denver baseball they say our fans arent baseball smart, im begining to belive em after tonite. Hurdle should be chased out of this city for his moves, tonite was complete idiocy. if this was new york boston st louis. tommrows papers would grill hurdle and the fans would riot, but no tracy will have an article about how q is showing good range and how pods is fast. renck will talk about hollidays sluggin percentage or something. my point is hurdle is dumb, and rockies are laughed at for keeping him for 7 years.
also i saw nothing wrong with herras play. he is going to be good i feel if he can hit. i would really like to see us have plays like pujols did tonite, or a squeeze, hurdle thinks a hit and run is when a player gets a hit and the players run the bases. thanks for my rant hurdle is an idiot

Hurdle
Every year that Hurdle’s managed at some point the team has had a prolonged slump. Even last year. Anyone can manage when things are going good but a lot of Hurdle’s moves don’t put the team in the best position to win. I don’t understand why he would pull Pods and then let Q hit against the lefty. Bizzare. IMO he’s one of the worst managers in baseball but good for a colorful quote.
