Game #82: Reynolds vs. Rogers

Colorado Rockies at Detroit Tigers, Jun 29, 2008 11:05 AM MDT

I'm just saying "no" to watching the Rockies game today.

Go Rockies!

Last night

I decided that the next game I attend, I may have to bring a sign that says “Dear Clint, Bucky for closer. Love, God.”

Good ol’ Clint, finding the good in losing – Clint, there is none. It’s all in your head.

Since I’ll be at work and have nothing else to do, I will probably end up following this game. God help me.

Also: Yorvit plays after Iannetta has an amazing night. Could ANYONE have seen this coming? I certainly didn’t.

Torrealba starting

Probably because it’s “traditional” to not start a catcher in a day game after an evening game. Can’t wear out the catcher, no! More “by the book” managing.

Baker, Yorvit

and Tulo carrying the offense so far….Maybe the bottom half is going to have to carry us today?

Damn,

maybe Tavera’s needs to quit trying to steal agains the Tiger’s Lefthanders

Don't mean

to sound pessismistic…but this is about the time we usually hit into a DP.

by jimmyski on Jun 29, 2008 12:00 PM MDT reply actions

True...but unfortunately

the last 2 games that Yorvit has played he actually has drivin in runs as surprising as that may seem

Wow...that

looks a lot better..nice at bat by Spillborghs

by jimmyski on Jun 29, 2008 12:01 PM MDT reply actions

Wow

I promised myself I wouldn’t watch today…I have no self control…I turn on the game…I’ve seen 2 pitches…unreal. Committed to losing, 100%.

by Teekalong on Jun 29, 2008 12:05 PM MDT reply actions

In terms of

self destructive behavior, sure is. Never tried crack myself, maybe it can be compared to Rocktober…one time high, years of misery to follow…

FAIL!! IS

the name of the Game for the Rockies!! I will never quit supporting them but damn is it frustrating!!

by jimmyski on Jun 29, 2008 12:06 PM MDT reply actions

Looks like he's trying to take away

some playing time from Ianetta just so he can Fail on a more consistent basis..

switching subjects for a minute...

This just up at Baseball Prospectus…
The Athletics want a right-handed hitting outfielder, and are reportedly eying Rockies left fielder Matt Holliday and center fielder Willy Taveras.

OK, does this have any chance of happening? If so, how can the Rockies re-tool and get better?

by patnkeren on Jun 29, 2008 12:26 PM MDT reply actions

Unless we can get someone

like Harden and Duscherer(sp) for Holliday, Taveras, and maybe Fuentes…I don’t see this deal working out right now.

by jimmyski on Jun 29, 2008 12:28 PM MDT up reply actions

not a bad haul

A’s taking on Holliday and his agent would be a detriment for them. Two quality arms that they can spare would make Rockies better, IMO. We can sort-of replace Holliday with Seth Smith, as we would lose Holliday after 2009, correct? Fun to speculate. Rockies desperately need top arms for the rotation.

by patnkeren on Jun 29, 2008 12:35 PM MDT up reply actions

As happy as I am

that we have the lead….this team has absolutely no killer instinct left in them!!

by jimmyski on Jun 29, 2008 12:48 PM MDT reply actions

Watching a washed-up Helton.....

making tentative swings and striking out like this is just sad.

Grilli

What was it that he said that made Detroit so angry?

by onholliday on Jun 29, 2008 1:25 PM MDT reply actions

From USA Today:

“Talent-wise on paper, that is one of the greatest teams assembled, but the atmosphere was stale and stagnant. You kept losing, losing and losing, and everybody became distant. I have good friends over there, and I feel badly for them.”

Jim Leyland’s response:

"Jason Grilli ought to worry about Colorado, not Detroit.”

But I think Tigers fans boo Grilli more for how he pitched in Detroit. He was never as bad as made out to be, but had some memorable meltdowns.

The one really bright spot

in our season is finally on the mound.
