Yankees "Lefty specialist" Ramirez is currently imploding against the Jays
they need Fuentes in a big way
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
For Fuentes, I'd ask for:
Austin Jackson and Francisco Cervelli.
Jackson is a multi-tool outfielder that could be ready for the bigs by the start of 2009. He had plenty of buzz exiting ‘07, but hasn’t been as stunning in ‘08, which could make him less untouchable. He seems like a good guy to have around to break in in left field once Holliday moves on. Jackson brings a speed-power potential package that could help redefine the Rockies outfield in the coming years (one that hopefully puts more emphasis on speed in all thre positions to allow for a competitive advantage defensively at home).
Cervelli is a solid B-/C prospect that is basically third in the Yankees catcher heirarchy, but instantly would become the Rockies top catching prospect. He’s better know for his defense than his offense, but could hit enough to be adequate in stretches. Could make a nice caddy/part timer with Iannetta in a year or two.
So would a package like that
be better than just taking the compensation picks?
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Jackson alone makes it so...
He’d be a top ten pick given his advanced skills if he were to enter the draft this year (at the age of a college junior)
Huh...
Jackson would be a prize, Cervelli’s damaged goods. I think it’s debatable that he becomes our top catching prospect instantly considering the broken wrist and that he was never going to have the power of McKenry before that, but he’s a solid catcher. Interesting proposal.
The wrist is a concern
but the Rockies can afford some patience with their minor league catchers with Torreallba’s contract, and Iannetta’s ability. Cervelli’s promise lies in his defense, moderate contact ability and plate discipline.
Watching
Pedro Martinez tonight seems like a good alternative.

OK, I OFFICIALLY GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!
Why not Iannetta???? Catcher ERA? Running Game? Veteraness? Blocking? Framing? Receiving? Target? Handling struggling LHP? Hitting? Power? Baserunning? Please give me a REAL/Solid answer so that I can sleep tonight! P.S. I have not posted a word on this topic, all year…..but I have finally ””“BROKEN!!!!”””“

Juan Pierre doubles.

Saw a really detailed blog post
Featuring really extensive data showing that Jeff’s really been struggling with his release point this year. It’s been extremely inconsistent. He’s barely lost any velocity, most of his problems are due to location which stems from those release point problems.
rockies in october.
I can believe this
and it’s why i also think he can rebound just fine.
LOL Juan Pierre picked off.

Thanks Larry, this is the type of analysis on Francis that I’ve been looking for. I’ll link this on the front page in tomorrow’s Rockpile.
so at the end this post
the guy posits that Francis has a secret injury….sigh
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Honestly, that's much better
than saying he’s lost it. I think the workload fatigue makes the most sense, and should the team continue to spiral, i’m sure it will find time to rest him with a DL trip down the road.
At this point, we need a healthy, rested Francis for next season.
On that same note
do you have an idea about how many innings they are going to let Reynolds pitch this year? After only throwing 50 last year.
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Can't say
I’m sure they’ll monitor it. This is looking like a developmental season anyways.
Not necessarily...
He also talks about general fatigue, something that is obviously killing Manny as well.

Why Penny would go away from the fastball that Smith can’t touch is anyone’s guess, but hey, who can complain.
rockies in october.
Seth's been getting beaten by fastballs down broadway
He had been much better at poking them into left field even if he couldn’t catch up to them until this past week. I hope he gets back on track.

The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
I don't believe in jinxes or curses
So if you have a problem with me saying this at this point in the game, keep it to yourself.
Obviously, as we’ve seen so far this year, Jeff could implode at any moment tonight. He’s not even halfway to the kind of start the team needs out of him. But I just wanted to point out that he got knocked around a bit during his first outing of the 2007 season, at Coors, but then got on track by throwing a gem during his first road start… at Dodger Stadium. I’m just saying is all.

Blame the Red Sox!
Ian Stewart
was thinking grannie the whole way there
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Except it would also include watching the Dodgers score seven in this half
Two homeruns, an error and a passed ball. Let’s hope that’s not actually the case.
123 inning
very un 2008
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
I haven't been watching the games
because they make me too angry, but I just happened to stumble upon that little tidbit of fail right there. Two of the worst at-bats imaginable by Atkins and Stewart with the bases loaded and one out. Atkins pops up weakly on the first pitch, Stewart hacks at everything and K’s again. It really does not surprise me that this team is as unreservedly awful as it is. Pah.
We are all dead.
Just another out
For a guy who often leads the league in them.

True
I hear he also kicked several dogs and clubbed a couple baby seals on his way to the ballpark tonight. Also, he has yet to win an MVP or cure a disease.
rockies in october.
Or do anything with global warming.
You forgot about that one. But at least he’s not Jhoulys Chacin.
This really made me laugh,
but truth is, no one has a clue why Iannetta isn’t playing. Just thinking about it makes me furious at Chacin.
It's certainly a fair question
I just feel like Torrealba gets enough abuse around here for the stuff he actually does wrong; I don’t see the point in ripping him for the stuff he almost does wrong.

3 pitches tonight, pretty impressive stuff. I new having Penny on my fantasy team would pay off.
As bad as the Rox have been
I’d be more frustrated right now to be an Indians fan. They haven’t had the injuries we have, plus they got an enormous boost and surprise by having Cliff Lee turn into Bob Gibson for the first 6 weeks of the season. And they’re still languishing.

I would point out,
that we still aren’t scoring runs.
The only path we have to winning….is pitching a shut out
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Yeah but
the scoring runs things should improve when Holliday comes back….
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
is that before we trade him?
*note…..thought about going with this snarky comment: “Like we were scoring so many BEFORE he got hurt”
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
The last two weeks of lineups
have greatly damped my enthusiasm to trade him this year
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
I went the other way
like when A-Rod was on the Rangers (I was a fan) and they were in last place. One guy isn’t the difference.
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
yeah I see your point
the nice thing about the Rockies situation is that they can listen to offers this summer, this winter, next summer…don’t have to trade him right away. And they can also make some attempt to negotiate with Boras.
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
That sounds Naive
Holliday’s trade value simply can’t improve any more than it’s at right now, but once this trade deadline passes, it will decrease, as he becomes a one year rental. Then it decreases after the off-season when he becomes a 2-3 month rental.
It’s simple, you give your last proposal to Boras by the end of this month, and when they say no, you pit contenders off each other for four talented players and consider yourself fortunate you got something of value before all was lost.
crap Willie....

Is it 2009 yet?
by The Lodo Magic Man on Jun 3, 2008 10:19 PM MDT up reply actions
I don't think so...
I was mentioning this a little in my blog for the RMN today, but Fowler needs to show more from the left side of the plate in the minors before he’ll be useful against major league RHP’s. I think he could hit left handers with ease right now.
Willy had that little thing with the ball last night too
I wonder if he’s getting frustrated
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Actually,
I think that particular Fanpost had to do with Willy throwing the ball into the turf after a blooper. Not sure, of course.
Blame the Red Sox!
That's

Don't get me wrong...
I actually wouldn’t mind more Fanposts from Jkings, that way we could have our own version of Gaslamp Ball’s Wiggins, but hopefully he’ll be able to take some good natured ribbing about them at the same time. It was a very hard post to understand.
Speaking of Bob Gibson
I have to share this video. I can only think, that a guy with 2 pitches and that poor follow through…would never make the majors today.

HOW DO I EMAIL THE BOOTH
I can’t find it anywhere on foxsports.com
Also, on the FSN feed, they showed a clip of a pitcher who got injured (like in the 70s-80s) and they were interviewing him on FSN Live. I can’t find the name, I can’t find the link to email the booth, I CANT FIND ANYTHING AND ITS DRIVING ME NUTS
Didn't get that sub
it makes sense in the bottom of the eighth, but as an offensive sub? Even if Stewart’s struggled with the breaking ball tonight, giving him an AB against an unproven picher would have been a good idea.
Is there a message to be sent, or are we thinking Herrera is a better leadoff guy (meaning by old book definition, he has no power)?

I'm going to bed
I’ll sleep soundly assuming that the bullpen survives two innings here
The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season
Herrera came on in the bottom of the
7th I think. Still don’t like it, I would have liked to see Stewie get 1 more AB.
You're right
I left the room and wasn’t paying much attention.
That makes more sense as a defensive sub, but why not bring Herrera in for Atkins, which moves Herrera to essentially ninth in the order, and slide Stewart to third, which gives you arguably a better defense.
As a pure defensive sub, it makes sense though, my bad.
Agreed completely
on that thought. Moving Stewie to 3rd and giving him another AB would do both, get him an AB and make the defense better. Maybe Hurdle was frustrated w/ Ian’s bad AB w/ the bases loaded, but I would think Atkins’ AB was worse.

Just saw it. Man, Kemp needs to simmer down. Yorvit ran into him trying to get the ball, which had gotten loose. He totally didn’t run into him on purpose, and Kemp just completely overreacted (and probably frustrated). Good for Yorvit for not taking that, and nice to see a little fire out of some Rockies players, for a change.
Well, it's been fun tonight
But I’m off to sleepy time now. Good game, Jeffey. Check in with the rest of you tomorrow.
Blame the Red Sox!
Who was that
effective SP we had out there tonight? We should let him pitch more often.

Hey, Jhoulys Chacin probably had a bad day. Word is his teammates snubbed him while the Rockies front office heckled his agent with threats of release. Hopefully this will get him on the losing track because Lord knows the Rockies need him to.
