WHOA NELLY

don’t go too far out on that limb…..those are really radical predictions there!

Yankees "Lefty specialist" Ramirez is currently imploding against the Jays

they need Fuentes in a big way

The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season

by moomacher on Jun 3, 2008 7:38 PM MDT reply actions

For Fuentes, I'd ask for:

Austin Jackson and Francisco Cervelli.

Jackson is a multi-tool outfielder that could be ready for the bigs by the start of 2009. He had plenty of buzz exiting ‘07, but hasn’t been as stunning in ‘08, which could make him less untouchable. He seems like a good guy to have around to break in in left field once Holliday moves on. Jackson brings a speed-power potential package that could help redefine the Rockies outfield in the coming years (one that hopefully puts more emphasis on speed in all thre positions to allow for a competitive advantage defensively at home).

Cervelli is a solid B-/C prospect that is basically third in the Yankees catcher heirarchy, but instantly would become the Rockies top catching prospect. He’s better know for his defense than his offense, but could hit enough to be adequate in stretches. Could make a nice caddy/part timer with Iannetta in a year or two.

by David OhNo on Jun 3, 2008 7:46 PM MDT up reply actions

So would a package like that

be better than just taking the compensation picks?

The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season

by moomacher on Jun 3, 2008 7:57 PM MDT up reply actions

Jackson alone makes it so...

He’d be a top ten pick given his advanced skills if he were to enter the draft this year (at the age of a college junior)

SOLD

we’ll throw in a back up catcher or starter…I get confused on which Torrealba is

Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!

by Redhawk on Jun 3, 2008 8:07 PM MDT up reply actions

Huh...

Jackson would be a prize, Cervelli’s damaged goods. I think it’s debatable that he becomes our top catching prospect instantly considering the broken wrist and that he was never going to have the power of McKenry before that, but he’s a solid catcher. Interesting proposal.

by Rox Girl on Jun 3, 2008 7:59 PM MDT up reply actions

The wrist is a concern

but the Rockies can afford some patience with their minor league catchers with Torreallba’s contract, and Iannetta’s ability. Cervelli’s promise lies in his defense, moderate contact ability and plate discipline.

Saw a really detailed blog post

Featuring really extensive data showing that Jeff’s really been struggling with his release point this year. It’s been extremely inconsistent. He’s barely lost any velocity, most of his problems are due to location which stems from those release point problems.

by moomacher on Jun 3, 2008 8:36 PM MDT up reply actions

Honestly, that's much better

than saying he’s lost it. I think the workload fatigue makes the most sense, and should the team continue to spiral, i’m sure it will find time to rest him with a DL trip down the road.

At this point, we need a healthy, rested Francis for next season.

So if you have a problem with me saying this at this point in the game, keep it to yourself.

Obviously, as we’ve seen so far this year, Jeff could implode at any moment tonight. He’s not even halfway to the kind of start the team needs out of him. But I just wanted to point out that he got knocked around a bit during his first outing of the 2007 season, at Coors, but then got on track by throwing a gem during his first road start… at Dodger Stadium. I’m just saying is all.

the nice thing about the Rockies situation is that they can listen to offers this summer, this winter, next summer…don’t have to trade him right away. And they can also make some attempt to negotiate with Boras.

The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season

by moomacher on Jun 3, 2008 10:22 PM MDT up reply actions

That sounds Naive

Holliday’s trade value simply can’t improve any more than it’s at right now, but once this trade deadline passes, it will decrease, as he becomes a one year rental. Then it decreases after the off-season when he becomes a 2-3 month rental.

It’s simple, you give your last proposal to Boras by the end of this month, and when they say no, you pit contenders off each other for four talented players and consider yourself fortunate you got something of value before all was lost.

HOW DO I EMAIL THE BOOTH

I can’t find it anywhere on foxsports.com

Also, on the FSN feed, they showed a clip of a pitcher who got injured (like in the 70s-80s) and they were interviewing him on FSN Live. I can’t find the name, I can’t find the link to email the booth, I CANT FIND ANYTHING AND ITS DRIVING ME NUTS

Didn't get that sub

it makes sense in the bottom of the eighth, but as an offensive sub? Even if Stewart’s struggled with the breaking ball tonight, giving him an AB against an unproven picher would have been a good idea.

Is there a message to be sent, or are we thinking Herrera is a better leadoff guy (meaning by old book definition, he has no power)?

by David OhNo on Jun 3, 2008 10:39 PM MDT reply actions

Herrera

He came in in the bottom of the 7th, he wasn’t pinch hitting. Not sure if you caught that or not.

by moomacher on Jun 3, 2008 10:41 PM MDT reply actions

Herrera came on in the bottom of the

7th I think. Still don’t like it, I would have liked to see Stewie get 1 more AB.

by smokinRox on Jun 3, 2008 10:41 PM MDT reply actions

You're right

I left the room and wasn’t paying much attention.

That makes more sense as a defensive sub, but why not bring Herrera in for Atkins, which moves Herrera to essentially ninth in the order, and slide Stewart to third, which gives you arguably a better defense.

As a pure defensive sub, it makes sense though, my bad.

by David OhNo on Jun 3, 2008 10:43 PM MDT up reply actions

Agreed completely

on that thought. Moving Stewie to 3rd and giving him another AB would do both, get him an AB and make the defense better. Maybe Hurdle was frustrated w/ Ian’s bad AB w/ the bases loaded, but I would think Atkins’ AB was worse.

by smokinRox on Jun 3, 2008 10:47 PM MDT up reply actions

It's probably taboo to send a non-closer reliever

to the all-star game, but Buchholz may be our only all-star worthy player in respect to players around the NL at his position.

by holly96 on Jun 3, 2008 10:54 PM MDT reply actions

Kemp

swung on strike three in the dirt, Yorvit picked the ball up and Kemp tried to kick him, when Yorvit went to tag him, kemp shoved him…..and then it was a nice wresling match….benches cleared, bad things were said about peoples momma….nice baseball fight amongst millionaires

So, what the hell? What was Kemp’s damage? Am I reading you right, that he sort of started it and then Yorvit lashed back?

And I gather Yorvit got tossed. Who else?

by holly96 on Jun 3, 2008 10:59 PM MDT up reply actions

Kemp

was tossed too.

and yep, it looks like Kemp’s came out of nowhere….However

Yorvit got a high and tight one under the chin in his last at bat.

What did Yorvit do to piss off the Dodgers? It wasn’t getting big hits…..

I like how the bullpens at Dodger Stadium are in opposite corners of the OF

It always looks ridiculous when the two relief corps join a fight in progress on the infield after having run 400 feet right next to each other, like they do in a lot of parks.

Woot!

I just saw a teaser on SportsCenter for the skirmish. I’m normally not a fan of baseball fights—most of the time I just find them silly. But for some reason I’m really pumped to see this one. Good for Yorvit, I say.

by holly96 on Jun 3, 2008 11:17 PM MDT reply actions

Okay

Just saw it. Man, Kemp needs to simmer down. Yorvit ran into him trying to get the ball, which had gotten loose. He totally didn’t run into him on purpose, and Kemp just completely overreacted (and probably frustrated). Good for Yorvit for not taking that, and nice to see a little fire out of some Rockies players, for a change.

Hey, Jhoulys Chacin probably had a bad day. Word is his teammates snubbed him while the Rockies front office heckled his agent with threats of release. Hopefully this will get him on the losing track because Lord knows the Rockies need him to.
