OFF TOPIC BUT INTERESTING......

Gaetti and Czarniecki, 2 former Rox minor leagues outfielders; now with the A’s and Angels respectively have now put up these combined numbers.

AB R H TB 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG SLG OBP OPS

289 49 93 154 20 4 11 46 38 55 9 5 .322 .533 .392 .925

For a pitcher advertised as a sinkerballer

Greg seems to throw a lot of pitches up in the zone.

The 2008 Rockies: All loses, all season

by moomacher on Jun 7, 2008 6:36 PM MDT reply actions

He's not really a sinkerballer...

I don’t know why he calls it that, and a certain newspaper believes him, but he doesn’t have a traditional sinking two-seam. He gets success from staying on top of his pitches to get a lot of downward tilt regardless of which pitch he throws, but they don’t have a lot of break. As long as he can keep that angle and keep them low, they should generate a lot more GO than FO, but it also means he’s got a lot less margin for error and we’ve seen that.

Saying that, I see too many fans taking the opposite view that he’ll never have success with this, which simply isn’t true, either. He’s just got to learn his hitters and be more precise, which when he’s on his A game, is something that comes rather easily for him.

But we don’t have to battle with Epstein save maybe once or twice a season, so it’s best to let his ambitions in the trade arena be used against somebody else.

That

was awesome. Three homers (including a Hawpe salami since I was wearing my lucky Brad shirt) a CDI start (and two RBIs, including a monster homer) Greg Reynolds posting his first major league W, a Buckysighting, a Tulo bobblehead, and a brief (and very amusing) shoutdown with a Raiders fan as I was leaving the park. Generally a wonderful night.

It was a wonderful night

for my first game of the year too. Got my Tulo bobblehead, and I had my lucky Iannetta t-shirt on, he actually played and of course played well. The guy that I have always been excited about w/ Stewie hits a huge HR. I won the argument w/ some Brewers fans around me, since its easy to win when your team wins. Also Holliday went 4-4 w/ the Sky Sox, so it is getting a little more exciting.

And now I am watching the game again after my long drive back to the Springs. Can’t wait to see the Stewie HR again. This is fun.

by smokinRox on Jun 7, 2008 11:10 PM MDT up reply actions

Awesome game..

.....had great seats, my Hebrew National hot dog was snappy, my Tulo bobblehead was a-bobbling, AND the Rockies win! Should’ve bought Lotto tickets. Hawpe’s inconsistence aside – he has one of the sweetest swings in baseball (thanks, no doubt to Ron Stilanovich)

by TulsaDriller on Jun 7, 2008 11:16 PM MDT up reply actions

Quite wonderful

to see a little “power ball” tonight. Can’t expect it every night, of course, but maybe Brad’s recent outburst will wear off on a certain left fielder named Matt Holliday when he returns. CDI simply continues to impress. One of these days, even Hurdle will wake up and smell the very strong coffee.

4 in a row now. Mayhaps we’re on our way back to respectability.

Blame the Red Sox!
