Sunday Morning Rockpile:
The possibility of a fire sale the Denver Post has been hyping for a few weeks has ended, because the Rockies have won a few games. Brad Hawpe hits a grand slam, Chris Iannetta smacks one out of the park immediately after, Ian Stewart hits a towering blast later in the game, and Greg Reynolds pitches so well that he's rewarded with his first win--who wants to break up the team now? Oh, and did anyone else notice that the Denver Post's Rockies blog went more than a month without an update (April 29 to June 2)?
Is Greg Reynolds in trouble if he doesn't improve his K/BB ratio?
Maybe the Rockies should just spin a wheel when deciding who to start on June 15?
Jeff Francis takes the hill today. Can he win two in a row?

If the Rockies
were to trade some of their star players, Joel Sherman of the NY Post believes the Yankees should see if Melky Cabrera, Ian Kennedy, and Mark Melancon would be enough for Garrett Atkins.

I'd say yes, in a heartbeat.
Cabrera would be a huge upgrade in center field, Kennedy would be instant Jason Hirsh/Greg Reynolds insurance and might actually turn out a better pitcher and Melancon’s pretty solid as well. This would be a classic buy low opportunity on three quality young players.
Does Sherman even understand baseball, or is he just a closet Rox fan? That’s a huge win for us, even considering how good a bat Atkins is.

Maybe the yankees would sell low on Cano as well
He is not having the best season, but I think he is an average to above average second baseman.

Yes.
But he doesn’t have to be much more than 1.2:1 as long as his location limits the BAA and opponent HR totals.

I think its more
limiting walks, than turning into some K machine.

Enjoyable game last night...
Really glad we had the chance to be there (Thanks, AtkinsandTulofan!!). Let’s hope it’s a sweep today! Thanks to the first two months of the season, if we want to get anywhere we first need to get out of the hole we dug for ourselves…

Thank you to Squeaky and Silverblood for coming to the game last night...
The whole outing really was a blast with Greg’s first hit, first win, etc. as well as the Hawpe Slam and Iannetta/Stewie homers! Of course it was even more fun with great fellow fans to be with as well as those darling Tulo bobbleheads! That said, we need to continue the trend of the last few games to get back in this! It has been nice to have happy fans and happy players…lets keep it that way! Go Rockies!

Newjack here
I’m stuck here outside the reach of Colorado broadcasts, but I try to keep up as much as I can.
Watching the FSU/Wichita St. game this morning.
Capra’s looking like a Rockies pitcher already. HBP, walks, giving up dingers and hits, 6 runs in the top of the first with another out still to get.
Should be a fun time, eh?

Not the start they wanted
two days in a row. You could make the case that both Capra and Shafer are better pitchers than Friday starter Musgrave, but both have come out showing poor command and made too many mistakes in this bandbox to succeed.
WSU has a good offense though, so I think it’s far from over, especially in this park.

Shocker pitchers must have tired arms at this point
I got the sense going through game logs that their coach wasn’t big on the whole pitch count thing.

Never has been, but
Wichita State’s a little lower profile than Rice and Stanford, and Stephenson’s something of a legend in college baseball, so they aren’t really called out on it. Shafer especially was driven hard down the stretch, including last weekend at Stillwater.

Send him to the Twins...
....where he may find the weather more amenable to his pitching.

Starter for Juneteenth +1
Not mentioned in the Ringlesby column was Jason Hirsch. He’s had 2 starts so far for Colorado Springs. His next start should be the 10th for the Sky Sox, which lines up his next start…on what do you know?...June 15th! coincidence?
Speaking of Hirsch or whoever comes from the minors to start this game. Who goes out? Right now it looks like Manny Corpas or Ryan Speier.
Oh, what does a 4 game winning streak get you? not much apparently…..still 10 games out of 1st, 14 games under .500, and still the worst team in the NL. But it’s a great morning! And I’m loving Colorado and the Rockies at the moment…..so…........this sums up my mood this morning!
