thoughts
with a day off tomarrow, we get Iannetta, starting a day game after a night game….Rare for a catcher, and rare for Hurdle to play Iannetta
Lefties must really hit Suppan…cause this is a very heavy lefty line up! man look at those lefties!
Guess the Brewers gave up on the line up of having the pitcher bat 8th ala Larusa with the Cardinals. I was really hoping to see that line up again.
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Pods hits Suppan at a .364 clip
which is likely why he’s in there, Spilly probably needs a rest after being the full-time LFer, and be still my heart WHAT? CDI actually got a second straight start? Shocking, shocking. He and Atkins are the only righties in there.
We are all dead.
Hurdle Logic!

He are smarte with handling playas!
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
only 2 right handed bats
7 out of 9 are left handed hitters (counting Francis, and I do). So Know Your Lefty Reliever:
51 Shouse, Brian RP L L 5-11 196 9/26/68 Effingham, IL 15
the Brewers have used him as just a LOOGY but also have extended him some, as he’s pitched 2 full innings, 2 of his last 3 appearances
Stat line: 3 w 0 L 2.45 ERA 28 games 22.0 IP 14 K 6 BB
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
lmao...yep
the guy in the picture behind Shouse is Hawpe from Friday night
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Is that a Dodger rounding the bases off him in this picture?
It looks like a homerun trot in the background.
Hawpe
from Friday Night!
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
I just figured that out...
I was hoping this was more of a trend, but no, they just blurred out the pinstripes.
But....
...how will we have a chance today without Willy T’s .292 OBP?
If the leadoff runner actually gets on base, won’t that just confuse the 2-3-4 hitters?
I’m concerned.
See
our hitting is so terrible, with runners on….Hurdle is thinking the best way to get guys to hit…is NOT have runners on when they come up
See….Hurdle R Smarte!
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
So?
does anyone have faith in these guys firing Hurdle some time this year? :
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Maybe they don't have to fire him
Just give him a new title, like Special Assistant to the GM in charge non-player development.
But Hurdle *loves* developing players....
It would be cruel to deprive him, right? So let’s just have him develop… the D-backs players or something.
We are all dead.
Like how
he failed to live up to being the next great thing?

I don’t think you’re capable of pitching well anywhere other than Dodger Stadium.

you know what would be great?
an out

Francis has issues
He doesn’t have enough movement or command to throw as slowly as he does
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
They can just foul, foul, foul
and wait for a pitch to sit on. Watching Francis this year is pretty excruciating.
We are all dead.
We can score 3 runs
so we are ok so far….but 2 more runs…and we are done

Announcers"
“1st inning continues to plague Franics”
Like 2 through 7 have been that good for Jeff
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Interesting Francis note:
The first batter of the ballgame in his starts has now gotten aboard safely 8 out of 13 times. And the first inning just narrowly beats out the sixth for when he fares the worst.
Interesting
I would have thought that 82 MPH fastball could just blow by major league hitters.
Maybe twice all season.
"Nuts!" - Gen. Anthony McAuliffe
Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
FSN
had him at 85 with the fastball at one point in the inning. My guess is that 85=82.
Apparently he’s crafty because he’s left-handed. God… Our announcers are freaking retarded.
85 MPH "heater"
and in the majors + “crafty” OR “Sucky” . Since they can’t call him sucky he must be “crafty”
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
K
and out of the inning.
And I want tacos….....can I go to more then one taco bell?
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
K to end the inning.

Hawpe
can’t lay off that pitch…..IN THE DIRT?
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Holy crap Atkins walked
Don’t see that often. Last night AND tonight. And then Hawpe swings at the dirt.
We are all dead.
Hawpe leaves two men on.
Time for Francis to give it another go.
"Nuts!" - Gen. Anthony McAuliffe

I think Francis is tired..
Sportsline shows he pitched the top and bottom of the first inning.
Somebody stole my Rocktober!!
He did so much better in the
bottom of the 1st then he did in the top
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Silver, how was the energy at last night's game?
Was the crowd into the game? Was the Rockies to Brewers ratio of fans acceptable?
Somebody stole my Rocktober!!
Yeah
The energy was really good, especially after Hawpe jacked it out and Iannetta followed suit. There was some annoying lady in front of me on her cell phone, standing up and waving (!!!) so I barked at her to sit down, which was fun, since I’m not usually a loud person. But I get fired up about sports. I was into the game the whole time of course, cheering for every batter and Reynolds, and very happy to be back. If you ask me, there were a few too many Brewers fans, especially a pair of ditzes waving Brewers logos at Braun from farther down in my section. (We were in 148, LF). Although it was fun when after Braun robbed Atkins of a hit, a few guys stood up and started doing the “Over-rated” chant at him.
We are all dead.
Good energy
but it died down towards the end/middle innings.
Way too many Brewer fans. In fact at the bars after the game, I was amazed at how many people game out to Denver, for the game and the weekend.
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Where did you sit Red?
I was thinking about getting tix in left field so my kids can play on the slide, but I love the view from the Club level seats.
Somebody stole my Rocktober!!
I had the crappiest of crappiest seats
but they were free! Section 302. That’s upper, upper deck in Right field, just to the Right of the Rock Pile. Actually not that bad of seats…so long as you don’t want to see Right Field
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
The Vibe was great...
....my seats were awesome, my Hebrew National was snappy, my Tulo Bobdlehead was a’ boblbing, AND the Rockies win! As we all know, it’s all in the sewer pipes – Brad sure made Ron Stilanovich proud.
It's simple:
After getting the first two outs, get the third.
"Nuts!" - Gen. Anthony McAuliffe
Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
Too bad the one column that matters still has a zero in it.
Let’s hope the bottom of the lineup gets something back here.
I think Clint has to know that Chris is the better hitter.
This is the fifth time CDI is batting sixth in the lineup this season, in 27 starts, while Yorvit’s never hit higher than seventh. I wonder what Hurdles last hangup is.
Does Yorvit even call his own game?
He looks into the dugout a lot when calling pitches. I know Iannetta calls his own game.
Somebody stole my Rocktober!!
Wait a second
I thought we were the only team allowed to give up hits to the opposing pitcher.
We are all dead.
we scored a run!

Seth Smith,
Any hit here would be welcomed.

4 Runners left in scoring position!?
There’s the old Rockies that I know and love….I mean loved.
Somebody stole my Rocktober!!
That was disappointing
Smith hit it well, but right at Hardy, and Todd just missed getting a hold of a pitch he liked. Very frustrating.
Just a thought
Francis looks awful thus far. Ideally, you’d hope that next year he’d bounce back. But next year he’s likely to be pitching innings for Canada in the utterly ridiculous WBC. That can’t help things for him next year, either.
Ship his ass out.
This song
is stupid. Every freaking team has this song, they just change team names. It’s * stupid.
End rant.
7 pitches
3 outs. Love that patience
OK…Rant time: we win 4 in a row, with good pitching, timely hitting, and I actually thought we were on some kind of a good roll. That this was behind us. but back to no patience, terrible starting pitching, and no big hits when we have runners on.
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Then why
are some of you surprised when a bad team plays badly?
I'm not surprised
for one. But I don’t think it’s unfair to have a glimmering of hope, then to be irritated when it returns to status quo.
We are all dead.
So....
When a team plays up to its logical expectations, that should be frustrating?
I think, realistically, this was a .500 team heading into the season. One big injury (Tulo) and a lot of underachieving (Ubaldo, Morales, Tulo before injury, Francis, Corpas) makes it an awful team.
Combine that with the fact that Hurdle is retarded and, well, you have a pretty * bad team.
I don't entirely get
why you are trying to call some of us out for hoping for better things. Being a sports fan doesn’t involve a lot of logic.
We are all dead.
That's my biggest problem with sports fans
The lack of logic.
Perhaps it’s because I’ve spend five nights a week hating athletes and sports. Perhaps it’s because I’m a super genius. (That’s a joke).
Either way, I think this team is fixable. I just happen to think it involves trading Atkins, Holliday, Hawpe, Helton, Fuentes and Francis. Also, I think we should all chip in and hire a hit on Hurdle. That would be help, too.
Because
I think there are more logical here than illogical. And I have no other outlet to discuss the Rockies.
I think most people on this site whine and complain because, well, that’s just what you DO when your team is absolutely effing atrocious, as ours is. You whine and you complain and you act like you care a lot more than you really do, when in reality you’re probably like me: you assumed we weren’t making the playoffs in about early-May, and now you hope they can figure something out for the future.
This team is 7 months from being in the World Series..
They are not a bad team, they are just playing poorly.
Somebody stole my Rocktober!!
Which is why
I get so frustrated with this team. It should be a .500 team. Not great, but certainly not this bad. When I see a glimmer of hope, then on it’s feet get completely whipped out, and back to crap….it’s frustrating even more.
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Francis has hurt them this year...
The injuries have really hurt. Too many stones on the bad luck side of the scales have put this team where they are now.
Somebody stole my Rocktober!!
I want to believe the best
but I’m usually the one that is Mr. Negative.
Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
The sad part is..
The Rocks go on a 4 game winning streak, and everyone else in the west goes on a winning streak of their own.
Somebody stole my Rocktober!!
Suppan
doesn’t want to be outdone by Francis. We don’t want to see the Brewers pitcher do that.

Colorado Rockies: Continuing a long tradition of playing meaningless games in June!
Still the same score. . . .
"Nuts!" - Gen. Anthony McAuliffe
Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
Well, maybe my problem is with
the top half of the inning, because some of those pitches to Suppan and Dillon were right there and he got 0 of the 50/50’s. Luckily, it didn’t hurt.
The Rockies needed more from Francis early
but he’s done a good job of keeping a bad situation from getting worse, and the offense finds itself in a two run game in the fifth. Though his day is likely done at 100 pitches, I won’t hold him primarily responsible if we go down.
Arghhh
This just isn’t our day. Unless they score one more run, and then we’ll have ‘em right where we want ‘em….
We are all dead.
Double for Atkins!
Finally, another hit.

Uhhhhhhh
Why are we using our BEST STARTER as a pinch-runner and not, you know, WILLY TAVERAS?!
We are all dead.
That's how you have 23 rbi's...
in 225 at-bats, while batting third or fourth all season. I know this is not an offensive juggernaut at the top of the order, but that RBI total is embarrassing for a player of his quality.
The '1'
just shows how excited you are.
"Nuts!" - Gen. Anthony McAuliffe

In other news....
UC Irvine is playing baseball very well right now. If you ‘d like to see some good baseball, I’d suggest flipping to ESPN to watch the Anteaters.
I'm gonna be pissed
if The Viz takes away innings from Bucky. Which will happen, of course.
We are all dead.
Don't you
love when we completely waste money on worthless free agents? Wouldn’t that money just be better earmarked for the draft, so we can afford to draft a Melville in the third round?
Two outs followed
by two walks. A win-win plan.
"Nuts!" - Gen. Anthony McAuliffe
Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
Fill Me In
When did baseball switch to two outs an inning?
Or did the Rockies just unilaterally start following the rule, and the umps didn’t get the memo? They might want to check on that.
Shock and awe
The Viz does not allow a run. The big shock will be if we score another one.
We are all dead.
Of course by using Spilly here
we have either Taveras, Yorvit, or Herrera left to hit for the Viz.
We are all dead.
Ned Yost's brilliant plot to use Shouse against Hawpe
is not working. Granted, that time Kapler helped a bit.
We are all dead.
Tying run
on third. How does he score?
"Nuts!" - Gen. Anthony McAuliffe
Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
Too much split playing here
I think Hurdle went one batter early with Spilborghs. You have a weak LOOGY on the mound against Stewart, a good lefty hitter, and Q, a poor hitter in general. By using spilborghs a batter too early, you leave yourself with weak hitters to follow. The question wasn’t if Spilly could do it or not, but which lefty do you want to put your trust in, Stewart or Q?
That's what I'm thinking
Stewie hits lefties well, and using Spilly there left us with… you know.
We are all dead.
Of course Stewart has more K potential there
so you run the risk of getting an out without advancing the baserunner. However, I still think the odds are greater with Stew then Spillborghs.
A little bit
of me just died.
"Nuts!" - Gen. Anthony McAuliffe
Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
Why Herges?
He isn’t what we want to keep the game close. And as I type, Braun singles.
We are all dead.
I think that's his MO
Gets himself in it up to his neck, and yet some how wiggles out.
Except for when he doesn’t.
Silverblood....
IF you’re going to be a true pessimistic asshole, you’ve got to NOT give credit. Ever. Even when it’s due.
It’s the Brewers’ fault they got out of that inning, not Herges’ skills.
I’ve got faith, young padowan.
Two pitches Pods?
For shame.
"Nuts!" - Gen. Anthony McAuliffe
Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
Todd outdoes him
with another first-pitch out. Blah.
I guess the Brewers can have ONE. In thanks for last year. At least it wasn’t last night.
Off-day before we take another crack at (not?) beating the Giants.
We are all dead.
It had
to end eventually.
"Nuts!" - Gen. Anthony McAuliffe

Please drive home safely...
and enjoy your tacos from last night’s outburst.
Series over streaks..
Just remember the team needs to win series, there’s no way they’re winning out this season. But they won their last two series and if that continues they’ll be in good shape.
Somebody stole my Rocktober!!
Good shape for not finishing last
but missing the playoffs is close to a foregone conclusion.
At that point, is it good to be respectably bad, or the eventual owners of Stephen Strasburg?
Depends
How much money will Strasburg want? If he’s out of our price range, well… Then let’s pick up some w’s.
What’s this about tacos?
No good answer on Strasburg
I’m only half joking on tanking it. Players and coaches should always play each game with meaning, and the desire to improve should be upheld on the field…
However, the FO should not treat any small hot streak as a sign of life, and should instead look at the percentages. If we are just looking at winning series, and we’re saying by that to just take two of three, then we’ll need to win the next fifteen series just to get back to .500 (not contention). That’s .660 ball for 45 games, carrying us close to the end of July, and still five games shy of the Diamondbacks current pace, 11 games shy of the wild card Cardinals pace!
I’m not saying this to you specifically, as I know you agree with me, but O’Dowd’s goal this season should be to re-tool as best he can with Holliday and Fuentes at least, and possibly Atkins if the right deal comes along. Bottom line, none of the three will be back when their contracts end, since the Rockies won’t go above market, and these guys are already seeking “fair” market. Such is the business of baseball, but if you’re good at it, you can turn things around quickly (see Oakland).
It’s not rebuilding, it’s re-tooling, and it will only take a few months.
Ah, but the operative phrase there
is “if you’re good at it.”
Your ideas make perfect sense to me. Unfortunately, I’m not convinced that O’Dowd is “good at it”.
Blame the Red Sox!
Exactly
It’s also realizing that we’re not the Dodgers. We’re not the Cubs. We can’t afford to sign players like Holliday as they approach free agency, and that’s fine. We can afford to keep guys like Spilborghs up until their big contract, though, to replace Holliday’s production.
