Game #94: Cook vs. Perez
Colorado Rockies at New York Mets, Jul 11, 2008 5:10 PM MDT
Tonight the Rockies make their last trip to Shea before they start playing the Mets at Citi Field next season. Oh, how a sweep would be nice.
Go Rockies!

Well
I’ll be here for most of the game thread, though my participation will be sporadic due to a certain bonus weekend on a particular video game which I am frequenting while watching the Rox game. In short, you won’t have to deal with me too much tonight =p
Ollie gets
the Rockies to go down 1-2-3. Your turn to do that to the Mets, Cook.

Chris didn't
want to swing at it, but the ball was just in the wrong place.

Looks like a pitchers duel tonight
Both these guys have the potential to be dominant and both appear to have their best stuff tonight
Well, if it isn't
my favorite baseball player . . . Damion Easley.

Wide gap
between CF and RF gave Delgado the double. Anyone else notice that his slide came up short?

All right! Out of the inning!
Now time for the bats to come alive these next few innings. Despite Perez being a lefty, I predict and hope Hawpe will come out of his slump at least somewhat tonight.

Gotta be optimistic...
I think we will get Perez the second time through, though like Tulo2 said. I know Atty has a homer against him.

Barmes seemed cautious of the knee...
particularly since his injury involved Reyes. At least we have 2 outs, just get out of the inning Cookie!

Cook
winning the battle of pitch counts so far, 46-53. Now, let’s widen that lead and hopefully get him some runs!
Until
it’s followed by a fly out and a DP.

Should have
used holliday to bunt him over. Small ball is the way to go.
he is hitting .400 in july though
plus it’s to early to assume that one single run would win this ball game
Easley's hit goes for naught.
Time for the Rockies’ bats to wake up.

Cook's MO:
Get two outs, give up hit, get third out.
Whatever works for you, Aaron. Too bad the offense is even worse than usual tonight.

Won't
happen until Sunday when Redman throws it.

How can a guy hit in AAA
as well as he did, and then look so terrible in the bigs?
Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.
Ask
Joe Koshansky that question. But at least Koshansky has a couple of dingers. Nix has a fat lot heaping plate of FAIL.
Free Casey Weathers!!!!
I have no idea
but .118 is jaw-dropping. I thought he’d at least be within binoculars-distance of respectability, but I underestimated his “slump”.

Um
Nix has zero plate discipline. And the amount of K’s we have racked up the past few games is just embarrassing.
But hey. At least we’re not being no-hit.

I did another
set of questions with that Mets blog, Take the 7 Train. I said Jayson Nix can’t hit major league pitching. Read the (few) comments.

Haha!
I just watched the highlight of the Hawpe homer on Gameday, and the Mets tv network showed a closeup of the scoreboard with the zeros right before the pitch that Brad hit out to break up the no hitter. Ha!
Two on, two out
for Garrett. Time for his hit.

Kind of ironic
how the only 2 hits he gave up were against the player that struggles against lefties the most
119 pitches
is Perez’s longest outing (by pitch count) of the season.

I still can picture him when he was around 12 or 13, wearing a baseball bat tie to church. Little did anyone know then that he was a future Cy Young winner and likely hall of famer.
This inning, please do it.

NICE
Nix up to bat with bases loaded. Clutch hitting and one of the worst hitters in the Majors. WHAT A COMBINATION.
Argh
They keep walking our best hitters, and then the next guy gets out anyway. I’d would rather Hawpe have tried to get a hit it there, even if it ends up being an out, rather than take a walk and leave it to Nix.
That's
sort of why I said Nix can’t hit major league pitching.

Complete, Massive, and Epic FAIL
Pitiful. We have to win 2 straight now to salvage the road trip. My guess is that it don’t happen.
Put me out of my misery. Please!
After that crappy Rockies game....
...maybe we can follow Chacin for the rest of the evening as a pick-me-up in his third start for Modesto. Perfect 1st inning for the kid.—road game at San Bernardino..
Or Chaz Roe
who just completed a complete game shutout in 106 pitches, striking out seven, walking one.
Roe has been pretty good in AA. He’s only had one bad outing, one below average one, several good, and now one outstanding one. I’d like to see more K’s, but he’s orking deep into games with pitch efficiency, so i can’t complain too much.
