2008 Home Run Derby

Sure, Matt Holliday isn't in it, but we'll watch anyway.

Player Team 2008 Home Run Total
Lance Berkman Houston 22
Ryan Braun Milwaukee 23
Josh Hamilton Texas 21
Evan Longoria Tampa 16
Justin Morneau* Minnesota 14
Grady Sizemore Cleveland 23
Dan Uggla Florida 23
Chase Utley Philadelphia 25

* - Winner

Too bad A-Rod and Giambi both declined their offers to participate.

Who's going to win this?

My picks

1) Berkman (raw power, experience)
2) Hamilton (raw power, sweet swing)
3) Utley (consistent swing with power)

Big drop-off after that in my picks.

I'm going with

Braun, Utley, and Longoria.

Line drive hitters

So many line-drive hitters with power this time. No boom or bust guys besides Uggla.

Everyone besides Uggla is capable of winning a batting title (or an MVP for that matter).

Utley said what?

As Chase Utley trotted to the intro lineup, there were a smattering of boos from the crowd. When Utley gets in line he says, “Boo? F__ you!” Clearly audible on the telecast.

Awesome

Couldn’t pick up what he said exactly.

I didn't hear at first...

..but replayed it on DVR…it definitely was "Boo? F__ you!" They’re talking about it on a phillies board.

Wow

Sizemore with three upper deck blasts (including one that could have made it out if it had gone through an opening).

Josh Hamilton

is crushing the ball.

28 for Hamilton.

Does he have any left in him?

The better question

is does his pitcher have anything left….

He's 71 . . . so maybe not?

Holy #$%

Wow.

Not sure anyone short of Mantle could hit that many, that far.

Hamilton can most likely sit out the second round. His pitcher’s arm might fall off though.

I'm still at work and missed the Josh Hamilton show thus far

Does anyone know if ESPN will be replaying this late tonight like they did last year? I’ve got to see this. And not just the highlights on SportsCenter.

My on-screen guide

has ESPN re-airing it at 3am EST, so they’ll probably replay it for you at some point during the dead of night.

Thanks

3am EST is midnight for me. Not too bad, and I rarely go to bed that early anyway.

Your 2008 Home Run Derby Champion is

Justin Morneau.

But Josh Hamilton was tonight’s star.

Matty Denied?

I have been traveling overseas without a computer. Why was Holliday not invited to participate?
