2008 All-Star Game Thread

Yankeefront36_medium

via www.mlbroadtrip.com

Yeah, this is up at 7pm ET, but first pitch isn't scheduled until 8:40 or so. TV spectacle and whatnot. Anyway, Yankee Stadium hosts its final All-Star Game, as New Yankee Stadium opens its gates next season.

St. Louis hosts next year's All-Star Game.

Go Aaron Cook! Go Matt Holliday! Don't mess things up, Clint Hurdle!

If I were Hurdle,

I would pick Brandon Webb to be the starter, then I would leave him in the entire game so he throws 180 pitches or so. Let him throw his arm off so the Rockies have a better shot at the NL West crown.

We won't even

see Webb pitch tonight. No chance for Hurdle to do anything to Webb.

Cliff Lee continues to deal.

And to think, there was speculation that the Rockies were, supposedly, going to look into trading for him during the offseason.

Just saw that

I completely understood the sentiment about it being easier to use your own guy for 3 innings than using some other manager’s pitcher.

And I actually really enjoyed Hurdle in that press conference. I know he gets a lot of heat for game managing, but I always like him as a person. And he made me laugh there a few times. Loved the bit about his conversation with David Wright about pitching.

by holly96 on Jul 15, 2008 11:55 PM MDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Salt on the wounds...

That the AL had to win it, but especially with someone from Boston as mvp. If I had to pick an AL MVP it would be Sherrill, for pitching as well as he did. Morneau also did well. So many NL players played well tonight. Matty and especially Cook were amazing (Cook for pope, king, etc!)....also Tejada, Martin and all the pitchers involved. It just seemed to me like the NL guys scraped and scraped and it was just incredible to me that they lost. Also sad that Lincecum was in the hospital and all that could have happened. I still think he should have put in Webb in there again. I know he had shorter rest, but he seemed to be pitching lights out. And I feel so, so bad for Lidge who had overcome a lot to get to the point where he is with the Phillies. It seemed like Uggla was still hurt or not 100% to me, he also played a key role in this game on both sides. I was also thinking there should have been a way to get McCann in there offensively. I know it would have been hard to take Russell Martin out, but I would think there had to be some way.

"Spilly picked me up...He came into the dugout and said, 'We're going to get a win for you right now,' and he did it. "
